Boxing Thread

damn, what happened here while I was gone? lol. A good read though

You guys missed a good ass fight. Probably, one of the candidates for fight of the year.

Adrian Diaconu vs Jean Pascal <---------- Awesome, awesome fight

Even if Hearns hit like Malignaggi I would still give the fight to Hearns. His boxing ability is just that much better than Khan’s.

He tried arguing that they both had weak chins and Khan has the faster hand speed. It was ludicrous to be honest.

Also, what do you people think about Mercer ( a 48 year old former boxer) knocking out somebody ranked no. 8 in MMA, in a MMA fight? I’m not going to say boxing>MMA but it made me laugh none the less. He koed him in about 10 seconds.

oh yeah, klitschko vs chagaev is about to start now.

I must have missed a post somewhere here…

lol @ boxing being dead. Waldimir Klitschko vs. Ruslan Chagaev = 60,000+ in attendance

Ray Mercer isn’t a just a former boxer, he’s a former world champion and former Olympic champion. I’m not surprised at all that Timmy was knocked out as his boxing, while effective against men with huge reach disadvantages in MMA also fighters with a lack of striking knowledge, is sub-par and as slow as molasses. I’m pretty sure Tim was hit the hardest he’s ever been hit that night.

Klitschko/Chagaev

Damn Waldimir, just let that right hand go…

Wlad could probably end this sooner if he wanted to.

Wald is putting punches together sooner then usual…

boxing here in germany is huge!

chagaev has no movement. klitschko is picking him apart.

makes you wonder if David Haye would have put up a better match… but Haye’s chin is very suspect

no American heavyweight today has the stamina to compete with either Klitschko brother

Wald finally letting his right hands go, if he would follow up with a left hook, he would put this guy out

very impressive performance by Waldimir. Now he has a mandatory due.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. Alexander Povetkin; if Alexander wants to step into the ring with this 6’6" machine

Vitali Klitschko vs. David Haye or Chris Arreola or Nikolai Valuev; I’d like Vitali to face off against Chris Arreola in Staples Center, Los Angeles, California. Would be a very big event out here on the west coast.

chageav gives up. klitschko wins. ~meh

I dozed off during the 7th round and woke up when the fight stopped :/. I still want the Haye match to happen with Wlad, but it definitely will be very tough for Haye to come out with a victory.

Nipples will get worked if that ever happened, if your going to brawl with Vitali you better have decent conditioning.

What are everyone’s thoughts on Nonito Donaire? I personally think this guy is really good. His step back counter left hook is one of the best Ive seen. Has there been any news on who he is fighting next?

i wouldn’t want to arreola get in their with vitali at this point bcuz he’d get seriously worked. he’s only 2 fights removed from letting that sloppy ass dude drop him once (or was it twice) in the 2nd round before coming back to get the KO win, no way he’s ready for the hammer bros. also he’s like 20 lbs too heavy.

the concussions studies done on football player pretty much proved what jaz was saying. i’m pretty sure you can easily google the espn clips on football concussions and how players with multiple ones have the brains of 80 year olds.

Nonito Donaire is the number one Flyweight (112) in the world and is ranked in some boxing media’pound for pound lists including The Ring magazine at number seven.

Pros:

  • complete fighter, can box or go toe-to-toe with an opponent. Good to watch. Will box at first, but will close the show when he senses weakness in his opponent.

  • mixes up his punches well. being a complete fighter, he does it all. body work and upstairs. good jab, hooks (left hook of course) and uppercuts

  • height. Donaire is always the bigger fighter in these lighter weightclasses and will be a force to be reckoned with at: 112, 115, 118.

Cons:

  • unnecessary risks. For some odd reason, Donaire switches to a southpaw stance in his fights. We know he has power in his left hand with the counter left hooks, but when he goes into a southpaw stance, he does nothing but try to land a big left shot. He doesn’t try to set it up with a southpaw jab or anything. It is very perdictable and ineffective. Donaire is lucky no one has taken advantage of this yet.

  • Weight control in between fights (conditioning). In between fights, Donaire blows up in weight and that makes it so much harder to go down in weight during camp. It showed in a couple of fights where he didn’t use his movement. Could hurt his performance in the long run.

  • hands are down. Sometimes Donaire keeps his hands low, it’s a risk against a puncher, like his next opponent.

August 15

At The Palms, Las Vegas. Top Rank PPV: Nonito Donaire vs. Hugo Cazares, 12 rounds, for vacant WBA interim junior bantamweight title ( probably going to be full-time soon)

Hugo Cazares is a puncher and is a former 108 (Light Flyweight) title holder. He lost twice to Ivan Calderon and had trouble making weight. He is also a fighter big for the lower weight classes so he goes up two weight classes against Donaire. Besides vic darchinyan, Hugo Cazares is the best opponent Donaire has ever faced.

Donaire is currently the second best fighter from The Philippines and fighting out of San Leandro, CA. Donaire is at an odd spot as he is one weightclass less (115) and is not where the action is. All the action right now is at Batamweight (118) with Vic Darchinyan, Fernando Montiel, Hozumi Hasegawa

I’m sure Arreola knows this better then anybody. If he is the next to fight Vitali, I’m sure he would come in better shape knowing he is going to fight the fight of his career. I’d give him the benefit of the doubt he would come in the best shape it and Chris has the height compete with either brother. Chris would make both brothers work, because both brothers are too used controlling the fight, doing “whatever they want” in their fights and making them work would will be out of their comfort zone.

eh i’d hope so, it’d be great to have an american heavyweight champ again

Hopefully he can get pass Hugo, because I would definitely love to see him go head up with Fernando Montiel in the near future.
