pretty much, also it doesn’t really matter who he fights he’s gonna get the same flack for it.

if he fights mosley…mosley’s washed up, why’s he ducking cotto?!
if he fights cotto…mosley is the champ, why’s he not fighting him?!
if he fights pacquiao…pacquiao is too small, what about cotto and mosley?!
he’s fighting JMM…JMM is too small, he should fight pacquiao (nevermind they’re more or less the same size)

and as a tune up fight JMM is more dangerous than any random welterweight or jr. welterweight that he could’ve (logically) chosen for that purpose.

Not to mention JMM is the second best counter-puncher active in boxing right now, right behind Floyd.

*Pound for pound, JMM is better than anyone Mayweather has ever fought.

The problem is he is being forced to give up any of that advantage. JMM is a natural 130lb’er . He moved up to 135 to chase Manny and scare a couple good lightweight battles.

This is a circus act fight. Nothing more and nothing less. Props to JMM for going after the big guys. Mayweather on the other hand is a schoolyard bully.*

As someone posted in some other forums, still a very nice comment I must admit.

^^^ good quote.

For Floyd, this fight is a low risk, high reward fight for him. Floyd wins, he is going brag about how much money he has made, brag about beating the “lightweight” champion of the world and then praise Marquez for beating Pac twice, unofficially.

to quote Dan Rafael: “Manny is looking up the scales for challenges, while Floyd is looking down the scales”

I praised this fight, posts ago, about having the two smartest fighters in one ring. The two best counter punchers. Boxing purists will praise the high level ring intelligence that will be on displayed in this fight. But for everyone else, this fight could be boring as hell. Two natural counter punchers meaning someone is going to have to be on the front foot. Marquez is going to have to press the action. Floyd will never lead even if his life depended on it, or if Marquez gets tired.

 how doe shit like this happen?

i dunno but just reading it is creepy as hell.

just saw from yahoo that she died. condolences to tyson and his family.

What about his fight with Coralles and Ndou, even his fight with Gatti. I think he is going to beat up Marquez good and proper he’s only really cautious against people bigger than him.

I disagree with that statement. One this is a come back fight, two Mayweather didn’t actually pick the fight with Marquez. Marquez was the one who called him out for a fight, a schoolyard bully would be someone who actually picked on a smaller fighter.

Further more people act as though Mayweather is much bigger than Marquez. In the past they campaigned at similar weights, Floyd isn’t much bigger than Marquez. I wonder if people bitched this much when Hearn’s fought Duran? Do people bitch about BHop’s victory over Tito Trinidad?

Also my condolences go out to Mike Tyson’s family. I was actually saddened to hear that his daughter died, it’s always upsetting when a child loses their life in such a tragic way but it’s also the fact that Mike’s life was turning around for the better he now has to deal with the loss of a child.

May Jehovah be with him.

I’ve been on the attack on Floyd lately and in case of sounding like a broken record, I’ll stop. bottom line is that the fight is happening. Floyd was quoted in saying he has fought his entire career injured. with this long layoff, I hope to see the old Floyd back and not the overly defensive Floyd seen in his last three fights.

Nikolai Valuev vs. Ruslan Chagaev II

Wake me up when Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye is only a week away.

June 19: Adrian Diaconu vs. Jean Pascal

this should be a good all Canadian fight on Showtime.

June 27 - the top rank PPV is not that bad. all solid match ups, except for the main event. i’ll probably watch this one.

Vanes Martirosyan vs. Andrey Tsurkan

Mike Alvarado vs. Paulie Malignaggi

Fernando Montiel vs. Eric Morel

Juan Manuel Lopez vs. Olivier Lontchi - the main event and worst match up

Tonight - HBO’s Boxing After Dark:

Alfredo Angulo vs. Kermit Cintron

Alfredo Angulo is the mexican warrior. Takes two to give one, he blocks punches with his chin and could be the flag bearer for Mexican boxing with Margarito out of action, Marquez at the end of his career and Isreal Vazquez/ Rafael Marquez not active these days. Kermit Cintron is the Puerto Rican puncher who only lost twice to Margarito. Could be a classic Mexico vs. Puerto Rico war.

Main event: Andre Berto vs. Juan Urango

Urango is a 147 titlist and Urango is a 140 titlist going up for the opportunity. In boxing, it is assumed that the fighter with more tools in his bag ( Berto) will beat the fighter with less tools ( Urango). But Urango proved everyone wrong when he beat Herman Ngoudjo, who was very similar to Berto ( as far as having the more tools). Is this a step up for Berto? No, but this fight will help him get more seasoned. Should be a good fight. Hope Berto’s conditioning improves, that is his main weakness.

Cintron looked the best I’ve ever seen him vs. Angulo. TBH I hadn’t seen him fight since the first Margacheato fight, and Berto, I don’t think he’s ready for the big fight yet, but he dominated Urango b/c all he does is move forward looking for one shot.

that’s cool. Different tastes. I do really notice a “boxing sux” attitude among MMA fans that have got into the sport since the first TUF. As for MMA I’ve gone back and watched a few of the early UFC’s b/c it’s truly amazing indicator of how far it’s come to where a guy like Royce Gracie dominated primarily strikers who had no idea how to defend against the then “new” BJJ techniques, to now where you have a guy like Lyoto Machida completely dominating Rashad, showing that his style using karate techniques other MMAA fighters haven’t necessarily figured out yet. Do you watch old PRIDE events? I mourn the loss of them, but I have a lot of their DVD’s and DREAM fits that need nicely. I also feel Strikeforce will flourish now too.

Cintron showed mental toughness and proved the critics wrong. Cintron was known for losing his composure and beating Angulo was a great confidence boster. Great win for Cintron. Cintron has a loaded 154 division to fight: Paul Williams, Sergei Dzindziruk, Sergio Martinez ( again, Cintron is the mandatory for Martinez WBC belt), Cory Spinks, James Kirkland, if he gets out of jail.

Speaking of James Kirkland, he is the stupidest motherfucker ever… He was on his way to superstar status, making millions in the future, and he threw it all away for getting caught carrying a gun as a convicted felon. I was a very big fan and it still pisses me off knowing Kirkland is going to spend time in prison. Shades of Ike Ibeabuchi here.

Lets be frank, Juan Urango was made to order for Andre Berto. It was up to Berto to look good to the people to get new fans and have a fan base to become a future star. He disappointed his supporters and didn’t gain any new fans in the process. He held so damn much like the second coming of John Ruiz and Ricky Hatton. Berto is a welterweight titleholder, but is he an “elite” welterweight? No. Colttey, Cotto, Mosley, even Margarito would beat Berto easily. Berto has a lot more work to be done. Andre Berto seems he can go down to junior Welter and could do something there.

amen brother. Yeah, Kirkland is really screwing himself up. Ann Wolfe his trainer, is confident he’ll be out of jail, as she said on FNF a few weeks back. Ibeabuchi, man… he had tons of potential and threw it away. Speaking of snoozer Ruiz, did you read the open letter to the WBA he wrote posted on fightnews arguing he should be a contender in line for a title shot rather than Chagaev or Valuev? lol. Add himself to a picture I don’t give a damn about.

Something is kinda shady about kirkland getting caught with a gun, the way he’s always talked to his trainer he seems like the kind of kid whos never seen a gun in his life. I mean I know he got caught for armed robbery before or whatever but damn.

He’s a thug it doesn’t surprise me one bit.

I feel no sympathy for this fool. You’re given an opportunity and you fuck it up for what?

That being said, I think it was only a matter of time before he got exposed. I don’t really rate his boxing ability, he can hit hard. Eventually you will bump into someone that can either take your punches and fire back or neutralise it ( Hopkins vs Trinidad comes to mind).

so berto won but looked bad? he does look a little small for welterweight, i still have faith! although i do have to say that he didn’t look that good in his last fight that i saw against collazo, hopefully he takes care of business against whoever he fights next.

I thought berto looked alright definately will keep watching his fights. I think he at least deserves a shot at the names hes been throwing around even if he may suffer a defeat to learn how to fight with the best.

Cintron is interesting to me because hes one of the people affected most by Margarito. Unlike Cotto however I’m not 100% convinced Cintron is as good as he thinks he is, and will enjoy seeing more of his fights to see how he proves me wrong or right.

The old boxing saying goes, win this fight (vs. Collazo) and look good in the next (vs. Urango). Well, Berto didn’t do that and he is getting some flack for it since Urango was tailor made for him. Sometimes, it’s “how you win” more so then just winning. See Pacquiao as an example. Berto has the physical tools, but lackluster in style. Where was the explosive Berto?

Andre Berto’s handlers will probably keep Berto busy until the elite welterweights all beat each other up and Berto could pick at the left overs for a huge name win. But, I doubt Berto, himself, would like that.

Since Berto is an HBO fighter, they are going to be very selective with Berto’s opponents, but IMO, these fighters should provide a step up in class and help the young titleholder get more seasoned, win or lose:

vs. Zab Judah ( good match up, not a big welter like himself)

vs. Kermit Cintron ( I think Berto is fighting an up-hill battle on this one, Cintron can crack)

vs. Carlos Quintana (maybe too big of a leap a la Angulo vs. Cintron, but a good test)

vs. Delvin Rodriguez ( would been the perfect fight, but HBO didn’t approve)

vs. Isaac Hlatshwayo ( good “keep busy” fight while waiting for something more)

whats up with the WBA in love with John Ruiz? Ruiz was the mandatory for the WBA heavyweight belt for a decade, it seems. Chagaev, Valuev, Ruiz can have a round robin with the WBA. fuck it. Wake me up when it’s Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye.
