Mayweather’s isn’t a clean fighter, not as dirty as hatton (who is punch, hold, punch, hold…), but he is in no way a clean boxer. If you recall his bout with Carlos Baldomir, mayweather’s did use his elbows for defense and offense and he was warned about it in his fight with Castillo. Watch a video of it and count how many times Cortez sayes “watch that elbow Floyd”.

George Foreman has said something about this if i recall.

He is only called pretty boy due to his speed and rich lifestyle it certainly has nothing to do with his in-ring performance. The guy has the ring name best for rappers.

and he talks a lot too. all the while he trash-talked while manny fought on and on to prove himself. who’s your p4p now? and he can’t back-up his trash talk, remember the 24/7 with him and dela hoya, how he would ktfo dela hoya? and when the boxing began, i was like wtf, this match will make me sleep more than a sleeping pill. i hope he leaves that trash talking to his father.

Floyd was deducted a point when he fought Jose Luis Castillo because of his elbows. Thrust, I’m the biggest Mayweather fan and it hurts me to say this, but Floyd is sneaky with the forearms and elbows inside and he likes to pull the opponents head down when close, which we was warned in several fights. I noticed ever since Hatton fought Mayweather, in his fights afterwards, Hatton also used the tactic of pulling an opponent’s head down. I watched Myaweather’s entire career on dvd many times and seen this as well. Floyd’s nickname came from his olympic teammates because his face never gets bruised.

If anyone is at the bay aera this weekend, check out Andre Ward vs. Edison Miranda this saturday at the oracle arena. Ticket prices are cheap. Edison Miranda is fun to watch.

Well, while that is true. Take nothing away from Mayweather’s jr, he is part of the top tier; the arguable and debated Manny counterpart too all boxing fans. I do think he is overrated though but with out shout of a doubt one of the greatest boxers right now. I don’t think he can beat Pacquiao but i’m very open and aware of being wrong because he is good.

I believe Manny to be the better of the two, seeing how he totally destroyed Hatton so quickly. Hatton is said to be allot better than he was this time, they claimed it fact. Probably it was all talk, but on the other side we didn’t get to see much of this “new and improved” Hatton because the fight was too FAST. Manny was just too much for hatton to begin with, regardless of the training Hatton got from floyd. Sure, people will accuse Floyd sr of being a horrible trainer who is all talk, but in the end the fault really goes to Pacquiao because he is that damn good but his size just makes him prone to heavy underestimation. If we take a look at the fighters both Pacquiao and Mayweathers have faced, Pacquiao did better against them.

Mayweathers beat Hatton; Manny Pacquiao destroyed him… he knocked down a better Hatton in the 1st round twice, silencing all the Brits and telling them to just go home.

Mayweathers beat Oscar De La Hoya in the 12th round and by split decision; Pacquiao won by submission – De La Hoya throws in the towel at the 9th round because if you watch the match again, DLH was getting messed up harder in every round, he knew he couldn’t fight him.

Lets see how Floyd does against Marquez but if i don’t see Marquez falling all over the place in the 1st round just like in his match against Pacquiao, then i don’t think Floyd will beat Pacquiao. It’s a dream match with out any doubt…

I can go on and on about Pacquiao, and i can be called a fan boy but he is better than Floyd. He ripped up two of Floyd’s previous opponents. He is with out a doubt the best boxer because his personality and ability makes him a general class A athlete. He fights clean, He is unstoppable, and outside the ring he is very humble to his fans (he can’t even tell his fans to leave him alone during training), and to his opponents. He is the boxer we have not seen since Mohammad ali.

A debate in the boxing boards is: Who is the fighter of the decade? Mayweather or Pacquiao. These two fighters are in the front running. I’d like to throw in some other names as well: Bernard Hopkins, Joe Calzaghe.

Depending on what criteria used and by whom, the main two it seems are boxing ability and accomplishment.

Boxing ability - Mayweather

Accomplishment - Pacquiao

now it depends on what merit gets weighed more.

Both Pacq and Mayweather are the top right now, they are the 2 golden boys. My opinion is strictly solid to Pacquiao being better at accomplishments and boxing ability. The comparison of their fights with Hatton and De La Hoya just makes me believe that the boxing ability is on Pacquiao.

that’s what i said in my previous posts… he probably is the most gifted boxer today but like what this guy said >http://www.ringtv.com/blog/657/10_greatest_fighters_by_decade/

to be the best, you got to beat the best.

eh i guess… when i hear “dirty” with regards to boxing i immediately think of holding, pushing and in-fighting, not necessarily breaking rules but if you put it that way yeah he’s up their way casamayor in using “wily veteran” type of moves in addition toe “crisp, clean and effective punching” as mr. merchant would say.

and yeah his nickname comes from him never getting bruised bcuz he’s always blocking/dodging/rolling no bcuz he’s dropping cash all the time.

i can kinda see comparing the DLH fights the 2 guys had and coming away with “pacquiao is clearly better”, but from the hatton fights you can’t come to that judgment imo. mayweather fought his usual pace fight and knocked out and pac did the same thing, i don’t really see how pac is “better” just bcuz he comes out guns ablazing, history has shown that doesn’t really mean anything. oh and a giant LOL at saying floyd has to do as well as pac did…in a fight that pacquiao didn’t even win, you guys need to lay off the pacquiao kool-aid and just wait for the fight to go down.

How many times has it been said that styles make fights?

How can you compare De La Hoya close to his natural weight fighting Mayweather, compared to the drained fighter that he was when he had to trim all of that weight down to fight Manny?

The knock out of Hatton was impressive, but again. You’re comparing a volume puncher(Manny), to a counter puncher with weak hands(Floyd).

I’m not doubting Manny’s ability, but I don’t get how anybody gets off saying that one has more boxing ability than the other, when their styles couldn’t be any more different. Of course it would take a counter puncher longer to knock somebody out, under normal conditions(Perfect knockout punch aside) than somebody who throws many, powerful accurate punches.

Being English I know why we chant like idiots sometimes. It is because outside of Hatton who else have we got? Haye maybe but the others we have are sooooo poor it is embarrassing to metion them. Danny Williams at Heavyweight, Carl Froch who is probably the luckiest boxer going and is calling out Calzaghe?! Amir Khan(t) and well some others MichaelSprottMattSkeltonFraudleyHarrisonCough. I was not one of the disrespectful ones though. I knew Hatton was out of his league but hope is a wonderful thing. Shame that my mind was proved right and not my heart. Pacquiao deserves all the props he gets. Brawlers will never beat boxers. Oh and speed generates power thus negating Hattons ‘advantage’. Anyway that is my view.

Just out of curiosity, what boxer are you talking about? Because if it is Marquez, Paq never lost to him. Paq is 1-0-1 and, in fact, would be 2-0 if not for a first round scoring error in the first match. If you are talking about someone else then ignore my post.

to be honest, I’m getting tired of the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao. luckily, we are talking boxing and this can be settled in the ring.

I hope this fight happens.

Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye June 20th

this fight is gonna be hype. The best fight in Europe, over 60,000 expected to attend this fight live in Germany. David Haye talked his way into this fight, lets see if he can back it up.

Exactly. I think Manny is in the prime of his career. Manny isn’t as wild as he was years ago. His placement, hand speed, power all seem to improve with every fight he takes. I would love to see him fight Floyd right now. Two contradicting styles: PFP best power puncher and PFP best defensive fighter.

On Ricky: Sadly I think that knockout he received from Floyd messed him up. He didn’t look like the same Ricky Hatton when he fought Manny. I think he needs to take a few easy fights to get the edge back.

EDIT:

I WANT TO SEE DR. IRONFIST WHOOP THAT ASS! I love the Klitschkos. I can’t wait. Is HBO picking this one up?

Vitali is DR. IRON FIST!!! Waldimir is DR. STEELHAMMER!!! Hardest nicknames in boxing! imho!!!

It’s cool that it’s on HBO World Championship Boxing. Hopefully it’s gonna be a good fight. Can’t wait.

Yeah I’m definitely going to watch that HW bout. First HW match I’m looking forward to since I started watching boxing. Also looking forward to Cotto vs Clottey. Any other fights in May and June I should look out for?

Haha damn it. I knew I would get them confused sooner or later.

Any word on when Chris Arreola is going to fight again?

i was referring to whoever said that if PBF doesn’t have JMM on the ground 3 times in the first round like pac did then pac > PBF which is stupid bcuz pac didn’t win even the fight.

May 16 - Andre Ward vs. Edison Miranda ( i plan to see this one live, a hit or miss fight)

May 30 - Andre Berto vs. Juan Urango. Good test for Berto

June 13 - Miguel Cotto vs. Joshua Clottey. Don’t miss

June 20 - Wladimir Klitschko vs. David Haye

July 18 - Mayweather vs. J.M. Marquez

is arreolla still undefeated? i wanna see him step up his competition, but when he almost destroyed in his last right i knew he’d never beat a klistchko brother lol

i hope Klitschko gets knocked out, both brothers made the heavyweight division so boring…wish ppl would step up and fight david tua, dudes been in limbo for years since no one wants to fight that monster.
