Boulder Punching 101 - Chris Redfield Thread The Director's cut

too slow of a reaction time IMO. doom rocks hit almost immediately on start up and it juggles enough for you to pop that magnum and blast them to the other side of the screen.

Who’s going to spend all the meter you get?

Going to try Chris (machine gun) / Hulk (AA Gamma Charge) / Doom (Missles)

I like Hulk’s armored assist + Chris/Doom assists help when he’s on point.

Getting destroyed by generic projectile-keepaway shit (Arthur, Modok, Sent, Iron Man). I’m not even bothering with grenades once it turns into a long-range fight. I feel like I’m just desperately trying to hit them with full-screen Magnum (comes out a bit faster than Machine Gun so the guide says) or finding a way to slip/jump in. Once they keep me out for a good amount I time I usually just give up and switch to Amaterasu. I’ve got Haggar (Lariat) and Amaterasu (Cold Star) on my team so maybe my lack of a better “get the fuck in and set the pace” assist for Chris hurts me. I thought about switching Ammy to her reflect assist but it’s not that great (wish it stood out longer) and it’d be tough to give up Cold Star.

Requesting backup.

Close-range and corner game I have no problem with. I just keep chucking those flame grenades, bring out the Shotgun, put down a mine every now and then in case shit happens (ex. tech roll), and when I get a chance to move in I go for dash :d::l:,:d::m:,:h:,:f::h:,:qcb::l: (2 hits), :dp::atk::atk: every time for good & easy damage. Gonna backtrack on the thread to find a way to up my damage.

Now I’m worrying

It’ll probably split evenly between Chris and Haggar. I’m not a fan of meter whore characters since I have to save my meter up for them instead of being able to use it for whatever I want whenever I want.

Just thought of something against Arthur just go prone lmao. So cheesy but the only thing hecan do is get close or get a little close
And use castlevania holy water.

In fact if they try to keepaway just go prone until they decide to rush.

lol does that actually work? Like have you tried it? Sounds hilarious.

Won’t Arthur just fire bottle a prone’d chris?

Just theory crafting . I’m a college student and my mom just sent the game. I’ll test it to or Thursday. And for the fire bottle it won’t go full screen I’m assuming. Also the pistol is fast enough to interrupt him

Arthur is tough but doable, early Magnum stops everything, it even beats his Lance (and still hits him), but gets beaten by two. Don’t bother with grenades unless you manage to get him cornered. I like to use :d:+:h: in the air, it doesn’t kill him, but it annoys him. Same goes for :d: :d: + :c:, this is one of those rare cases where it is kinda useful (only his Air Crossbow, Fire bottle with very limited range, his super slow Axe and Hyper can hit you). Also abuse pushblock against him a lot. If he jumps I like to wavedash under him.

Haven’t fought against a good MODOK yet, so I can’t help here. I just rushed them all down.

Sent isn’t THAT hard, I abuse Magnum on him (he can’t crouch it) if he tries to lame me out, and superjump back Shotgun if he tries to jump. And again pushblock is godlike against him. I like to use tigerknee Shotgun and Magnum, but beware it will NOT hit him through armor. Punish regular Drones with Grenade Launcher fullscreen, its not hard. :d: :d: + :c: (and :f:+:m: to some extent) is again not that bad at a distance because his only move that can hit you is :l: Drones, and they dissapear if he gets hit. If he tries to wavedash Shotgun him.

Not enough range .

Don’t use the combos I posted a while back just yet. I’m working on some new stuff.

Example: At mid screen: :d:+:l:,:d:+:m:,:h:,:f:+:h:, :l: BP>:l:>:m:>:h:, Magnum, Air Magnum, :f:+:h:, :s:, :m:, :m:, :h:, :s:, :a1: (Weskers Jaguar Kick, anything should do, really):d:+:h:assist connects, Flamethrower does 554,500, might do a little more if I time Flamethrower better, best thing, this builds TWO bars.

Good shit guys, im a university student so i wont own the game until april(bummer) but looking forward to seeing some footage of a competent chris player cause the video thread is extremely dead at the moment.

LOOOOL.
I’ve found assist only infinite while playing arcade. Not very useful, but its so dumb. Air Magnum x N. It actually might be useful if you kill point character and catch an assist. Btw, Air Magnum does 225,000 on assists.

EDIT: I’ll test it if you can do it in an actual match.

no way chris is going to win a projectile war just curious as to why you have haggar on your team? cold star is a good choice for chris to begin his setups but you might want to reconsider haggar unless I am missing something here…chris can hold his own but when it comes down to it he only has one viable hyper…I need to find some good hit confirm lvl.3 setups if its possible other wise chris is here to cut hyper and build meter

im running Chris/Deadpool/MODOK at the moment but this team is subject to change during tournament time

MODOK helps chris get in with psi blaster, deadpools quick work helps chris set up his corner traps

I still need to fight M/S/S to test something…

Check out the video thread, theres a combo there by tragic that shows a nice set up into his lvl 3.

Two reasons:

1.) The Lariat assist for pure “Get The Fuck Off Me” power + Untechable Knockdown. Costs Haggar some life (yes, every time you use this assist he loses some life) but it has a nice duration and he’s invincible during it. If they pressure me in the corner and I hit them with this then the untechable knockdown gives me time to jump over them and get back some breathing space or possibly put THEM in the corner. Only downside is that it hits fairly high.

2.) I play favorites. I just pick three characters that I like and I try to make them all work together. I did this for MvC2 (Ryu B, Guile A, Hayato Y, don’t laugh) and TvC (Batsu & Tekkaman Blade).

Chris has three viable hypers. Lvl 3 setups: near the corner: Magnum, any combo into :h: Boulder Punch, :m: Boulder Punch + Magnum Follow up.

On the mid-screen the one from Tragic also: :d:+:l:,:d:+:m:,:h:,:f:+:h:, :l: BP>:l:>:m:>:h:, Magnum, Air Magnum, (:f:+:h: optional because the timing is quite hard), :h: BP, lvl 3. This one is easier to pull off.

Also the assist only infinite isn’t an infinite if you kill the point character. The next character will come out eventually (or if it is the last character they will just return and come back as point). But you can OTG assist with Magnum up to 4 times (at least I couldn’t do it more times). Basically they are caught in a constant ground bounce without being able to tech. You just have to kill the point character with a move that allows Air Magnum as a follow-up and catch their assist. The easiest are obviously Magnum/Air Magnum and :m: BP with Magnum follow-up. This shit is scary, deals like 70% on Hulk. I bet there are more things like these with other characters.

EDIT: I uploaded a video of this, if the point character stays, because I can get a dummy to do this (can’t get anyone to record me killing a point character this late (11 PM)), warning, terrible quality:

How long does it take for MODOK’s assist barrier to come out? Possible anti air usage?

I don’t know the exact amount, but its not a fast assist, you gotta use it early. Plus i don’t think it has any invincibility so its not a good idea to pull it out when the opponent is right on top you, with that said i can definitely see it having some uses, particularly coupled with chris’s prone thingy.

I have to try out that j.:qcf::h: assist killing trick. See how viable it is in actual matches.
