riddle me this batman… how the HELL do u defend against ken’s cross up… it seems to grind me to floor each time.

i think you answered your own question within your question… it’s a cross up so it crosses over. Either block it correctly or OS parry it.
you seem a little hesitant with your play, since you’re using Akuma try getting in there face more so that it isn’t as easy to get damage on you. Also, it looks like you don’t block much and just take the hits ( which is something Gouki can’t do) sometimes it’s a good idea to block attacks coming at you.
well i am either too random or too distant… so not sure what to do… sigh… whatever I do or dont do I get punished… just being agressive is not enough…
i don’t know what you were complaining about. the recent matches are nowhere near as bad as the first two, so to say you’re not getting any better is a flat out lie.
it seems like you’ve gotten a decent understanding of the pacing of the game, ie. how to move akuma in a basic manner. interacting with the other person is a big problem. whenever you were close, you wanted to press buttons. then it became a roll of the dice where you the other guy would press buttons and luck would determine who gets hit. you need to clean up your game so it’s as controlled and deliberate as possible. if you’re not doing a hit-confirm, a tick throw, a smart poke, etc. then you don’t have to press buttons. there’s nothing wrong with waiting to see what the other person does first. this can be after your own move, after the opponent hits you (or you block something), when the other person is getting up, or just in general.
combo-wise, don’t do LK hurricane. that’s for punishment combos. if your opponents weren’t bad you would’ve lost a chunk of health every time you did it. you tried to short short super a few times but botched it. training mode is the only thing that can patch that up, but it’s good that you used it. hit-confirms are the safest and therefore best way to do damage, so having those ready is a big advantage in setting up safe offense.
in short:
range game: don’t run away. once you reach the distance where an air fireball would just graze them, there’s no need to go any further
footsies/spacing: remember that every move has its proper range. don’t do sweeps at close range or c.LK at sweep distance. know where and when each move is used
combos: use hit-confirms when you don’t know if it will hit. use a bnb combo when you do. also, you botched that s.lp into sa1 reset. the guy got hit because he’s a dumbass. don’t even use resets. just do a combo.
yea I really cant get the sa1 out fast enough… and when I try to do it fast it just ends up as either a c.hp or a srk…
its really difficult to be precise, especially when it feels like your fighting against the stick sometimes to get moves out… so yea it does get reduced to a game of chance…
btw what does os parry mean?
also ACTUALLY is there any meaning behind that crouching punch I notice people do sometimes? as in without linking it to anything, as the way I see it, its like they use it to personally count a distance until they can cross up or till they can jump over whatever u throw and do damage? (if that makes sence?)
ok so… just got beaten by this player called noferatu 6D a NASTY piece of work that manages to exploit certain moves that overwhelms new players (I.e me) … anyone played the armored core series… well hes pretty much like this guy… : http://armoredcore.wikia.com/wiki/SAMSARA
remember that chun li player that used the same move over and over against me. yea same guy… now i know I am still a noob so he’s pretty much gonna own me all the time, but any tips for me to avoid this should he do this same move over and over… ?
OS means option select. in this case you’ll either get a parry or block when you press either forward or back, which the game decides for you based on which side ken ends up on. far fewer people use this against crossups that you might expect. just learn to block crossups properly. there’s no trick or secret technique people can tell you for some things. watch ken closely, and make your best estimate.
meter is a big part of 3S. whiffing normals build meter in 3S. therefore, whiffing a fast normal has become commonplace for some characters. you’re right though, some people use things like that to help with timing or spacing certain setups, too. it’s not something you need to be too concerned about right now.
the reason you lost against that akuma is because, like i said, you keep pressing buttons. halfway through blocking a hurricane you would stop blocking and presumably press buttons. block the entire thing. the easiest thing with akuma is to do the same move (HK hurricane) after you block his. easy reversal.
if only they put a special/powerful mechanic in the game to deal with those exact situations.

I think I am getting slightly better at this… as I seem to start strong and I am starting to parry better… but yea start to lose momentum… ok guys… I’ll keep at it… I am getting better, slightly … just I think I need to slow matches down abit… u’r right gajin I should wait for them to react more than me but still keep a close distance…
k played a set against a very good ken player… heres how i got on… a few points I was doing ok but overall I cant take the pressure… I think the second round I did pretty well to keep pressure on (sort of) what u think? (BTW thanks gajin et all for constant updates… I keep what u guys say in mind but if I keep this up… there may be some hope yet =) )
