BLOODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT aka the Spiritual successor of Symphony of the Night

You know I actually just played and finished Symphony of the Night for the very first time last weekend on a very long bus trip and I came away from it feeling very… whelmed. I’m happy to see its getting a spiritual successor but I’m no where near as hype as some of you guys.

And people should care because…

You don’t have to care. This is a forum and I’m just stating my opinion.

Once the Kickstarter ends, at some point they will send out a survey and that is where you indicate what system its for

Eh, that final fantasy artwork isn’t supposed to be representative of how the game should look, whereas the M#9 stuff was. They completely changed the style of the art, which bothers me immensely. Went from “must buy” to “eh, wait until it hits $5 on steam”. I completely expect those bloodstained pictures to be representative of the final game. Ever since I saw the HD art in the blazblue fighting games I’ve been wanting a 2D metroidvania game with it. I hope Iga doesn’t disappoint. It sure looks like he’s on the right track.

You’re going to be disappointed.

“Not representative of the final product” right off the Kickstarter page. It’s concept art not in game screen shots.

Of course he’s going to be dissapointed, admittedly 2.5D is a stupid fucking term but it’s overused enough for anyone with half a fucking brain to realise the game won’t look like that glorius 2D concept art.

I just hope the models turn out well, that Mighty 09 screenshot looks shit and not just because it’s being compared to the concept art.

I know. They pretty much have to say that. I guess I trust Iga a lot more than Inafune right now.

Agreed 100%

I’m fine with it not looking like the art.

Gorgeous as it is, there are a few things that wouldn’t work in game and too many things make it obvious look like a mockup. The “sprites” seem to lack a certain sense of “separation” from the environment and stuff like that enemy on the left son’t pop out enough.

Yea I’m fine with that to. I understand what concept art is for.

You have to understand when you played that in 97 it was an amazing game for the time. Everything was moving to 3d, there was very little in the way of 2d games, and then that game just dropped and blew everyone away. Some of the later Game Boy advance/DS/3ds castlevanias were really great, but they would never have been made without SOTN. It’s reminds me of the kids who played Super Mario World and were too young for SM3 not understanding what the hype was all about. Basically you whipper snappers need to learn some respect. Waves old man walking cain P.S. I was a sophmore in HS hen SOTN dropped.

I’m very hype about this announcement, but I am a little hesitant as Inafune just pissed me the hell off about Mighty Number 9. I am on the fence about donating, but the classic mode stretch goal is pretty tempting.

I don’t think Iga is worth worrying about like Inafune. Inafune left a high ranking position at Capcom because he wanted to build a franchise for himself that will generate a lot of money for himself.

Iga left a low ranking position at Konami because they wanted to him to toil away on Mobile games instead of making the games he wants to actually make. I think the situation is kind of different.

Still keeping expectations in check is a very smart thing to do

Um After Iga left Konami he did work on mobile gaming and probably still does so that his dream game will be funded, not sure on the status of that, but just saying leaving Konami mobile development to end up in mobile development doesn’t make sense. I’m sure their was another reason he left.

It does make sense, because at Konami he was stuck ONLY making Mobile games. That is the direction that company is going in, they are dumping bigger projects for mobile gaming, (and a greater focus on Pachinko parlors, and other such enterprises) he would have never been able to a game like Bloodstained at Konami because those kinds of games are no longer an option, so leaving Konami’s mobile division to go and make Mobile games elsewhere with the chance to make the game he really wants to make does make sense.

Clearly he needs to make money to live so he’s stuck working a job he doesn’t want to do, but it got him out of the dead end job he was currently at and opened more doors for him in some way.

I think that is kind of easy to see.

Even Inafune released a few crappy mobile games to get Comcept off the ground. Everybody gonna start somewhere.

They eventually send out a survey (via email), before they go into final production and manufacturing.

The Survey will confirm stuff like shipping address, what platform you want your game on, if their extras how you want them done, if applicable t-shirt sizes and so on

Also have to remember that Inafune left more because he had issues with upper management, not because they were leaving the video game business. In addition to that, alot of people left at Capcom, including Ono are actually Inafune proteges. Actually, important people at Capcom have been coming and going since the late 80s, so Inafune leaving isn’t as bit a deal, since they do tend to leave people behind who can take care of things.

With Iga (and presumable, Kojima) leaving and going on his own however, there isn’t really much left at Konami, especially since we do know that they are leaving the console video game business.

Isn’t that basically what I said?

I don’t know if the proteges have been doing so well, looking at the Capcom of the 2000s and 2010s compared to the Capcom of the 80s and 90s.

As long as its as hype as Guacamelee, I’m all for this. I know I’ll be in the minority of this, but I love that powered up feeling when you get to go around wrecking the castle. Aria of Sorrow was pretty great for this type of thing. Mind you, I don’t want to sacrifice over all quality over the ability to utterly annihilate things, but it is a damn good feeling.
