BLOODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT aka the Spiritual successor of Symphony of the Night

Hollow Night is awesome but it doesnt let you brutalize things through the sheer power of your abilities.

Sometimes you just have mercilessly destroy things.

Which is why it isnā€™t conducive to relaxing exploration. You are never OP, not even close and the whole game stays consistantly dangerous.

In Symphony once you get the Jewel Knucke you can stay OP the whole game easily.

Really different experience.

Iā€™d like to think they have a team working on a new game too.

Itā€™s sad to think that theyā€™re ONLY working on DLC, a good chunk of which I have zero interest in. A new game would obviously print $$$ again, no one is really making games like these anymore outside of(mostly shite) indies.

Couldnā€™t disagree more. The genre is flooded with good to high quality titles and it would behoove people to give it a rest and try other shit.

Spoiled for choice these days. Few are flat meh like CHASM.

Same here. Bloodstained is pretty chill and I like that you can do other stuff like complete quests, upgrade shards, craft/break down stuff, prepare food, etc, if youā€™re stuck or just feel like doing something that isnā€™t playing through the game.

I was thinking about picking up Dead Cells after hearing Million talk about it, but after reading about how hard it is, I decided against it. I have no doubt I could beat it, but I usually want to chill when Iā€™m playing my switch and the game doesnā€™t sound conducive to that.

I like that theyā€™re bringing out new playable characters and new modes of play. It gives the game replayability even beyond whatā€™s already there with all the weapons and shards available. So I donā€™t mind that theyā€™re doing more DLC.

:man_shrugging: Iā€™d rather see a new game. I know theyā€™re stuck doing DLC for a while though, because of Kickstarter. They have a ways to go to release all of the content they promised.

I Platinumā€™d the game and did everything there was to do. I kind of want to reinstall the game to play as Ninja David Hayter but eh. Randomizer I really donā€™t care aboutā€¦feels like a waste of time. ā€œHey play the game again but a key item might not be where it was the first time.ā€ Mehā€¦

Btw fuck the inferno cave.

Or a whole bunch of different stuff

Yeah thatā€™s definitely the case with Symphony, but I havenā€™t found anything in Bloodstained thatā€™s utterly broken, at least not yet

You kinda have to set up the broken. Gebelā€™s glasses + everything is crazy. The time stop shard + hellhounds is equally as bonkers.

They nerfed quite a few things in the game too like the portrait shard (forgot its name) and some weapons IIRC.

Helps that things dont get utterly nutty unless you grind them out. Which is also why its kinda baffling that they nerfed high end stuff. If you go through the trouble of getting stuff to level 9, you earned whatever ass whooping you give to people with it

Yeah I noticed that Welcome Company and Rhava Bural arenā€™t quite as powerful as they were when I played the first time, but theyā€™re still good. Seems like most stuff in the game is viable if you pair it with the right things.

My gunslinger build is getting better and better. Iā€™ve got Assassin Plate, the book that makes your attacks faster, and the gunmanā€™s scarf, and with all that, Iā€™m shooting pretty fast at this point, so I dont really have to do any backdash cancelling to eke out dps. I got the Betelgeuse last night too.

Are there any gun techniques besides Rapid Fire? The guns donā€™t really seem to be able to do anything that Iā€™ve noticed thus far and Iā€™ve tried various motions with all the guns Iā€™ve had but maybe I missed something.

Finally getting back into it after almost a year and just got invert last night. Idk if the patches for the Switch version made it worse or not, but I went back to the spiraling tower where you fought the 2 headed dragon and wtf this area is sluggish asf. I def donā€™t remember it being like that.

Anyways Iā€™m in the final area now I think.

I found the tower of Dragons to be pretty decent actually, it was a little slow in places but overall a lot better than people said. Canā€™t speak for it with Invert though.

Just got to the boss with poker chips. I used invert to stay closer to his head, but apparently that breaks the boss. He ended up going below the spikes and I canā€™t hit his head anymore.

Invert makes that fight a breeze, maybe thatā€™s a stopgap to keep you from winning too easily :joy:

Day one. 5/5, 10/10, genre defining, loves ear scratches and treats.
