BLOODSTAINED: RITUAL OF THE NIGHT aka the Spiritual successor of Symphony of the Night

Ah wanted to see more comparison photos or videos. I guess I’ll have to wait for Digital Foundry. Edit: Direct Feed games has a short video on the patch. The only difference I noticed was the improved load times.

Game Mode Changes

One of the promised stretch goals for the game was Roguelike. Unfortunately, the code that was created early in the game’s development is not currently compatible with this type of gameplay (especially a procedurally generated castle). Due to this, we regret to announce that we will not be developing Roguelike as part of the project’s planned stretch goals.

We know this is a mode that many of you were eagerly anticipating and we apologize that we will not be able to make it happen as planned.

We don’t want to leave a hole in the roster, so we have developed a new game mode called “Randomizer” to take its place. Randomizer will launch with Zangetsu and be available for free. Details on Randomizer are laid out below.

Boss Revenge Mode

On Discord, “Boss Revenge” mode had previously been mentioned as launching at the same time as Zangetsu. This statement was made in error. Boss Revenge is scheduled for the content update that follows Zangetsu and Randomizer.

Randomizer Mode Details

Randomizer is the story campaign you’re used to, but with a twist. Before starting a game, players can choose up to eight different game parameters to be randomized during the playthrough.

As an example, “Items - Retain Method” means that items will be found in the same spawn method (chest, mob drop, etc.) as normal. Items found in chests will still be found in chests, they will just get mixed around. “Total random” means anything can drop anywhere.

The mode will ensure safeguards to ensure that items needed to complete the game will be obtainable, so you can’t softlock your progress.

Once you make your selections, you can generate a seed that you can use for reference or to share with someone else. In addition, a timer will track your progress through the game and display your completion time at the end of a run.

We hope that everyone will enjoy the new mode and work to get the shortest clear time possible for your permutations!

Apparently, some people are upset because they were initially promised a procedural mode, but what they are offering now is a randomizer.

Randomized is better the procedural anyway.

I have yet to play a procedural platforming game that doesnt generate meh levels.

I imagine a procedurally generated mode could have been cool. Other than Bloodborne, a lot ot tye games I’ve played that in haven’t had the best level design anyway and Bloodstained is an exception there.

It could be but I have yet to see truly exceptional anything come if random generation. I hate the Chalice Dungeons myself.

Only one of the chalice dungeons is procedurally generated. I actually don’t mind them, but I went at them with a pretty OP character, so I played them more to relax.

I’m not too familiar with randomizer parameters, does it seem good? I read some comments saying it’s not a lot implying it’s bad.

I’m pretty sure that’s not true at all. You can seed multiple dungeon layouts from the same Chalice. There’s even a database online forgot for farming Blood Rocks so you can seed into other people’s Chalices and collect the rocks.

I grinded the Chalice Dungeons and they were absolute shit. Everything looks the same and a couple of layouts repeat themselves. The bosses exclusive to them is the only reason to do it. I can live without procedural generation. I have no need for limitless generic content.

I was disappointed with how peeps told me the dungeons We’re so hard and could make me so OP. Didn’t realize my character was already busted and cake walked through em. :joy:

Only the Root Chalice dungeons are procedurally generated. https://bloodborne.wiki.fextralife.com/Chalice+dungeon

Ok yea that’s more then one dungeon tho…

Think we got our wires crossed a bit. The normal chalice dungeons are meh but the root ones are awful.

Properly done procedural games are great. Rogue Legacy, Wizard of Legend, Spelunky etc.

Half assing it for this would’ve been a bad idea. Their excuse is kinda assy but thems the breaks.

If you guys want a metroid style game that has procedurarily generated levels, play A Robot Named Fight. Game is great and fairly challenging.

I actually don’t mind them much. TBH they kind of reminded me of that PS2 castlevania game Curse Of Darkness, but better, and it was kind of a fun way to grind for items compared to how I had to do it in DS2, which was just go to the same areas again and again and kill the same enemies. This makes me want to play Bloodborne again now.

Also, I’ve been thinking about picking this game up on Switch, so this seems like a good time to do it.

I hate Curse of Darkness…lol

Yea I know some people who like the Chalice Dungeons but I just wasn’t very fond of them, especially the root ones. When I play now I just do enough to get that first boss gear and then ignore them.

If you play Bloodborne let a homie know. I’m always down to murder eldrich abominations with a friend.

I think the chalice dungeons are probably more fun to do multiplayer (at least i’ve had the most fun with them playing multiplayer) and that’s why a lot of people seem to hate them, because they’re grinding them solo. I could be wrong though. I like that you can still get through the game without playing them at all, but if you really want to, they could be a game in and of themselves. And yeah, we should totally play sometime! Maybe we could make new characters and just go through the game together.

And yeah, CoD had such promise. That game is truly a shame because there’s actually a lot of great things about it marred by how fucked awful and bloated the levels are. I normally will go through any CV game at least twice, but that one I beat once and couldn’t even finish Trevor mode it was so boring.

Yea CoD is a real snooze. They took the biggest issue with LOI and made it 10x worse. I have no idea why.

Yea I’ll deffinitly make a new character if that’s what you want to do. I’ll do NG+ cycles. I’ve always wanted to do the higher up NG+ cycles in these games with someone but always end up doing them alone lol. Whatever you wanna do I’m down. Maybe with someone I can finally get the Rakuyo and get to see what it’s like lmao. I never managed to beat those stupid shark asshole in the well lol.

It was probalby Konami wanting more play time out of the the game. I honestly don’t get why that was/is ever a thing. I’d rather have a great game that takes an hour to beat than a mediocre one that takes 40 hours, but that’s just me.

Actually, it might be fun to start at NG+. THat’s really where the game gets going imo, and you get some stuff you can’t get in your initial run. I have a character I started for duels but the matchmaking didn’t work out, maybe I’ll finisht he game with her and we can do some NG+ run. Those fucking sharks gave me nightmares lol! I had a couple times I was doing real well and then one of them bum rushed me and killed me.

It’s fallout from the PS1 and 2 RPG domination era where half the games coming out took 60+ hours to finish and people rating games based on an hour to dollar figure. It’s really dumb but I understand where the mind set cane from.

I’ll have to look at my account saves and see if I have a NG+ build bow that I think about it. I don’t use the Radiant account on PSN anymore, I have it to my mother for FFXIV. I’ll have to install and look at my new accounts saves. Either way tho I am down to just play and womp womp shit. Let me know.
