To be honest, I’d rather have someone make a classic Castlevania game. This Metroidvania stuff is boring and there hasn’t been a good 2D Castlevania game on a console other than handheld for a long time.
I hope this game is going to be good, but I won’t back it.
Hand-drawn, hard as fuck, well-designed Castlevania in the manner of Rondo of Blood, is where it’s at for me. All this RPG crap makes the Castlevania just less exciting.
The way Super Metroid did it was cool, but Metroidvania games just made everything too easy by putting too many tools in form of xp levels and a million spells in the game, making it a boring grind after a really exciting start.
Yeah! This is what I’m talking about. About to drop $300 on this. Need that Michiru Yamane sig. I just hope there’s a clock tower stage with Medusa heads that curse + poison + stone you.
Agreed, i’m sure they will. I think IGA was just caught a bit off guard at the speed the goals were all reached.
Most Kickstarters don’t have their stretch goals hit day one, then their extended stretch goals hit 2 hours later.
I have no doubt better goals are coming, and as i noted before and will try and update on the OP there are more goals for community participation including a “Rumored” mobile port.
Hopefully this game is a huge success so we hopefully see more higher-budget IGAvania games.
I hated having to play Indie’s to get my IGAvania fix, especially when said indie’s are pretty shit compared to the real thing. They’re always missing a lot of what makes an IGAvania and IGAvania game.
seriously though, i am over the moon with this development. iga + game = quality product is debatable right now but the mere fact that he is getting so much support is a positive sign of awesomeness to come. “have at you!!!”
-Inti Creates actually has released games unlike Comcept
-They’re going to have a publisher of some sort
I don’t think IGA would spend over a year getting all of this together just to fuck everybody over. This dude is passionate about the games he makes, I mean he would roll around with a whip while looking like Vampire Killer:
Dude loves CV and its fanbase. You never know, though. I mean this could all turn to shit, but I doubt it. It would mean a loss of face for everyone involved(Inti Creates, Yamane, David Hayer, etc. etc.) not just IGA.
This is actually my first Kickstarter for a game that I put a significant amount of money into (I did $100). I did a very small amount towards Yooka-Laylee. Other than that I did drop over $100 on Bubblegum Crisis Bluray by Animeigo. It’s pretty exciting but it would take something of this level of interest for me to do it again, I think. Igavania’s may possibly be my single-most favorite game formula. I try not to throw around the term favorite loosely, and I have many, but 2D Castlevania and its uncertain future as of late is the only gaming franchise that’s ever affected me emotionally. The thought of never playing another one actually kinda depressed me a bit. It’s a fucking crime that publishers don’t think people want this anymore. All I really needed to back this was knowing that Iga was involved and that Machiru Yamane was on the soundtrack. Speaking of which:
I initially only pledged $5 but that pitch video (which I watched afterwards) was so entertaining and motivating that I said fuck it and changed it too $100. I mean, this is a 2D Igavania in HD on CONSOLES. That’s something I’ve been craving for years. I also want all the suits in the industry to know that people want this shit, so I did my part. And because fuck Konami.
The only thing that slightly worries me is 2.5D. I’m anxious/nervous to see what that’s gonna be like, but I have faith in Iga. If anything, with the Kickstarter now triple the amount of its goal, he’s gonna have a lot more pressure not to screw anything up than he did initially. He’s gotten mad support from the fans and he strikes me as the type of dude who will give it his all to make this fucking legendary.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Konami was the actual publisher the guy is talking about in the video.
Seems like you have to prove corporate Japan nowadays that an idea will actually work, before they drop the money bomb.
Listen closely to what he has to say, this isn’t an independent project like MN9.
