Eh but most are from myths, folklaw and legends how can you copyright that?
I mean shit like zombies/minotaurs/wolfmen/skeletons/gorgons/ect. have all shown up in lots of other games, how would Bloodstained have any less right to use them?
I mean he may not be able to rip the sprites 1 for 1 but surely the general appearances of these well known creatures from myth, folklore and legend aren’t exclusively owned by Konami.
He said that Konami owns the copyrights of those creatures as presented in Castlevania. IGA wants to use zombies/minotaurs/wolfmen/skeletons etc, those creatures will need to be redesigned.
Pretty much. I knew that’s how it was going to be, I didn’t expect anything less so I didn’t back. Plus the whole M#Nein made me really hesitant about considering backing another Japanese developer supposedly done wrong by the company he worked for, keeping him oppressed and down from really being creative.
Yet we still get a rehash. That’s my whole problem with it.
To be fair, Iga is at least being transparent and seems to be doing a good job directing the team. He has a vision and knows what he wants. I give him respect for that. It’s just not my thing anymore.
I mean considering he’s more or less the founding father of the “Metroidvania” style of game, which would be imitated or referenced in many different games in the future I’m pretty sure you can consider him an innovator.
Being an innovator and being iterative aren’t mutually exclusive concepts, Shigeru Miyamoto for example is often criticized for the formulaic nature of a lot of his work, however he is responsible for creating a lot of these formulas, conversely he still constantly tries to add new innovations into his works which wind up being for better (see Pikmin 3) or worse (see Paper Mario Sticker Star).
A game doesn’t have to be innovative to be good. It just has to be good.
People who backed Bloodstained knew what they were getting, because they sure as hell weren’t going to get it from Konami. I didn’t back the game on principle, but I’m hype for Bloodstained.
No one is crying. Just saying this was his chance to break his mold a little, and he didn’t. Funny thing once he was free to do as he wished and no longer under Konami’s control, he copied his own work even more than when he was working for them. Remember all those times Iga said Konami won’t let him do what he wants? Now he can do exactly that and he goes back and does what he already did before…
Because what Iga wanted to do was more Castlevanias in his style and Konami wanted him to work on shitty mobile games while they whored out Lords of Boring Ass Music DMC Ripoffs.
He is doing exactly what he’s been wanting to do since 2008.
I can’t understand people complaining about Iga making a Castlevania game out of Bloodstained.
I don’t even care if it’s a carbon copy of a previous Castlevania game (whether in gameplay or story or whatever) - I just want a new one. Konami obviously isn’t gonna give me one since they’re a bunch of fucking retards, so Igarashi is my only option either way
IGA’s Castlevania games were getting stale. He deviated very little from his established formula and his games would be released so close together. He would release two Castlevania games a year. Biggest reason why the series overhauled with Lords of Shadow.
It’s been almost ten years since he give us his style of Castlevania I can let this slide. I would like for him to break his mold for the next one.
