Bloodborne thread

So, like Dark Souls 1 (and unlike Dark Souls 2), I think it’s safe to assume there’s gonna be certain requirements that need to be met in the main game to access the DLC content releasing pretty soon here. The questions just being “what” and “where”. I have a few speculations, but I’d love to get a few second opinions.

On the “where”:

There’s a few areas in the game I think could possibly be a doorway into the DLC area, much like DS1 had you journey to the very bottom of Darkroot Basin to access Artorias of The Abyss. My best guess is the door near the Cathedral Ward that is inexplicably locked.

This one, specifically.

Now, it’s already been confirmed that as of now the door does absolutely nothing. I think I heard at one point that it was going to be a shortcut leading into the area behind where you battle the Cleric Beast, but for whatever reason FromSoft cut it out of the final game. However there’s an interesting little pathway that seems only reachable through said door:

Maybe it could lead into a lost part of the city? Perhaps a third school of thought that was only lightly alluded to in the main story; one separate from both the School of Mensis and the School of Brgynworth? Couldn’t say. Again, I’m just speculating, but it would be a cool little twist on the story.

Another idea I had (keep in mind this is still pretty much just baseless speculation) is using a Great One as a medium of transport to this DLC area. We already know they’re capable of such feats, seeing as how the Great One in the tomb underneath the Grand Cathedral transports you into the academy leading into the Nightmare Frontier. Maybe this will involve a new item (similar to the Tonsil Stone) that will allow transport into a new area. Maybe it’ll even be one of the other various Great Ones hiding around Yharnam that teleports you to this theoretical place. Maybe it’ll be a new NPC all together.

Lastly, and one of my more prominent theories, is it’ll take place on the home planet/diemension/plane of existence these “Great Ones” reside in. The closest we’ve gotten to this is probably Nightmare Frontier, even though we really only have a tenuous grasp on what that area really even is in the first place. It’s fairly obvious though that it exists in some sort of pocket diemension, much like the area where Rom resides or the Mensis Nightmare. However we know FromSoft just loves throwing time travel into their games, so we can’t just limit the possibilities to diemensional travel. Maybe we’ll witness the Church’s assault against the Vilebloods firsthand. Maybe we’ll learn about the Queen and how she became a vessel. Also…what of the King? Is there even one?

So many goddamn questions.

But this still leaves me with questions as to WHAT this DLC will be about. One name keeps popping up in my head.

Irrevant Izzy.

From the Beast Claw item description:

I think there’s a lot of potential with this character. Her weapon is classified as a church weapon, which is leading a lot of people to believe she was an actual member of the church. At least at some point. Probably as an ex hunter, since both of her creations (that we know of) were weapons. It’s reasonable to assume she had a hand in the creation of Blood Pellets as well.

“Irreverent”, meaning to be apathetic or showing a lack of respect towards things that are generally taken seriously, is also another clue as to her affiliation with the healing church. Considering the church itself is something everyone in Yharnam takes very seriously.

From a poster on reddit:

Which would also explain why the Brgynworth School is so deep within the woods as well. Their school of thought goes against everything the church stands for.

There’s insane potential with this character. Maybe she went off and formed a type of cult following that more focuses on the aspects of “The Hunt”. Maybe she became so enveloped in her creations she herself became a beast. Either way, it’s a great medium to introduce new environments, new weapons, new item spells, and new bosses.

I dunno. A lot of this is speculation but at the same time this is what makes the lore in these games so great. The speculation and theorization is the funnest part, imo.

Thoughts, anyone?

The Cathedral Ward door actually leads to somewhere. It’s the door on the faaaaaar right side of the area you’re standing in, in the second picture. The one down the stairs past the sleeping Giant dude with the ball and chain. You can drop shiny coins at the door, then run all the way to the Cleric Boss fight area and see the coins that slipped past the door. It literally is a shortcut from Cathedral Ward to Yarnham City. They either decided it should never open, or someone on the dev team messed up, dunno but that’s where that door leads.

I have no theories as to what the expansion could be, it could be fucking anything considering the material. I don’t have any theories at all. I just have a list of demands lol.

uhhh guys… Past that door is where you fought the cleric beast

edit 2 :

if i had to guess… i’m thinking they will do like they did in DS2 where earlier you faced with a brick wall , but when you had the DLC that wall was gone and you could go teleport n shixz.

…that’s what i just said.

That door does connect to the bridge that you fight cleric beast on. If you place a shining coin there from one side you can run around and see it on the other. so unless they want to have it make no sense i don’t know if they will use that door for the DLC.

Niggas don’t fucking read lmfao

it’s true. i didn’t even get halfway through that post before hitting quote and posting the reply… orz

Did you know if you throw coins through that locked door near where you fight the cleric beast and go to where the sleeping giant is near the cathedral you’ll see that it’s actually the same door. Please like, retweet, favourite, rate and subscribe.

I lent my friend this game and he is stuck on blood starved beast.
Seems like the most divisive boss is blood starved beast in terms of difficulty.

Some people say he’s easy , others one of the hardest bosses.

I’m wondering if it has to do with whether or not you were dark Souls player first or what weapon you’re using.

I suspect it has more to do with how much you enjoy and are already familiar with parry mechanics from other games.

BSB is a classic Souls boss in that he’s designed to make you panic.

Once you know how he moves, he’s among the easier bosses to replay - though you do have to remind yourself to quickly react to the tell to his pounce-grab-and-eat-you attack.

Those first attempts at fighting him, though? Unless you quickly figure out which of his attacks whiff, you WILL have a hard time.

BSB is also a completely optional boss, so unless you’re eager to get into the chalice dungeons EDIT: or the Gaol early, if you’re struggling you can just go do other stuff for a while and come back stronger.

I was watching a video and now I remember, his attacks have a lot of startup . You just sidestep to the left or keep strafing . He’s literally one of the easiest bosses.

I think dark souls players are not used to playing aggressive and being up close as first time players.

I never saw the grab move until my second playthrough

It’s funny how much the “hang back/circle and wait for a whiff” playstyle has ingrained itself into a Souls player’s PvE playstyle.

I’ve been going through Demon’s Souls, and I ran into trouble against Selen Vinland. She’s got the Blind sword, which ignores shields entirely, and she’s in an area with a swamp that prevents rolling and small islands that leave little room for rolling. Plus, she’s got mad tracking. And also the Anti Magic Field spell. EDIT: And a heal spell if you try to pick at her with a bow.

The solution? She’s lightly armored enough that her attacks can be interrupted by almost literally anything. So you two-hand your weapon and go HAM on her, never giving her a chance to attack.

As far as I know, she is the ONLY non-mob enemy in the game where the “make them whiff/clang off your shield and then punish” tactic is directly harmful, and the best tactic is to say “screw it I’ma treat this like Devil May Cry”. And boy, did it throw me off.
