Got back into this game about two weeks ago and finished it today. The bloody crow gave me such a hard time I ended up quitting for a couple months. Came back and beat him on my second try this time. Only boss fights I ended up summoning help for were Martyr Logarious and Gehrman.
I enjoyed this game a lot. Not the first Souls game I’ve played but the first I’ve completed. I’ll definitely be back for another play through at some point.
BSB, Ebrietas, and Logarius gave me the most trouble. BSB I think took around 7 attempts, Logarius around 5, and Ebrietas 7. Ebrietas seems to give everyone trouble. Shadows, Witch, big head alien boss (if you even count that), Vicar Amelia, Rom, and the last three bosses were all one shot.
And speaking of the last year bosses, beat the game today. Grand total of deaths: 61. Pretty good for a Souls virgin from what I’ve been told. Overall, I really enjoyed the game, and I’m playing through NG+ right now. Bloodborne is definitely one of the better games I’ve played in a good while.
Yeah Ebrietas is kinda a bitch but mostly cause of that super annoying tackle attack. I can never seem to fully dodge it unless I’m already at the right distance. I am definitely the most annoyed fighting her, though I think like, Gherman is harder for example.
I heard people having trouble with Shadows but I bet those people never used the big pillar in the arena. That makes that fight super manageable. Logarius I had trouble against, but it didn’t FEEL hard, I was just surprised by his moveset several times. Rom was easy for me.
Still haven’t beaten the Cainhurst+Crow set Chikage hunter in Eileen’s quest without cheesing him…
Yeah the roughest part about Ebrietas is the stupid charge attack she does. I haven’t been able to consistently dodge it, even with non-lock on rolls, because the hit box and active frames are so fucking gigantic. I can’t really tell if it’s a distance thing or a timing thing, but dodging it seemed to be 50/50.
You should have seen my Shadows fight. It was essentially just me running around with my 2H Ludwig’s, kiting to one side of the room, then running in to get a hit on lantern guy, then rinse repeat until it died. Same shit for the second one. lmao Last one I just RTSD to prevent him from summoning snakes once I figured out he wouldn’t do it as long as I remained close. Stream monsters were expecting me to get rekt tho.
Cainhurst Crow hunter fucked me up first time. I wasn’t prepared for that shit. I ended up kiting him down the stairs and then for some reason the fight was a lot easier. I dunno why but his AI would just not care about a normal 2H Ludwig’s slash and would get hit by it every time so long as I was in range and he didn’t try to attack me first.
That’s basically what I meant by cheesing him. You can actually let him two hand which starts his life drain then run back down the stairs and he’ll stay in that mode but lose aggro, so he’ll just go back in that mode and eventually die on his own. So yeah his AI gets a little screwy around the stairs
Pretty sure the Cainhurst Crow was patched. Once he gets back into the chapel he’ll heal now, at least that’s what happened about 2 weeks ago when I fought him again.
BSB is cake once you realize that dashing into him results in him whiffing all his attacks. My first few playthroughs I kept going for stun into visceral which gets you killed if you mistime it even once. I always recommend to new players the dash strategy as it’s pretty much fool proof since you don’t even have to time it all that well.
Had a weird thing happen the other day with Micholas. Normally my health is around 25-30 at that point in the game, and when he uses the Call Beyond and I fuck up and get hit I take about 50% damage. Last time I fought him he was one shotting me with that spell. At first I was like oh I must have gotten hit by quite a few of the projectiles. The next attempt however one stray orb hit me and I died instantly, wtf? I went and did some other shit after that, and didn’t play again until the next day. I get to him once more and test out the power of that spell. So I let him cast it and I take about 90% of the orbs to the face and it only does about 50% of my life bar, yet the day before one stray orb killed me. Is there really just that much of a random factor to that attack?
Could it have hit you in the recovery of a roll or sidestep? IIRC you get extra damage during recovery, or at least you used to in older Souls games, not sure if it’s still in BB
It’s always the poison that fucks me up in some way, be it poisoned and too low health to do anything about it or getting pwned trying to deal with it be it heal or anitdote. I dunno man, he just fucks me up still for some reason.
Here’s what I do, keep antidote and fire paper ready for use.
Phase 1 run towards him and he’ll either do his overhead type attack, or that pathetic running move. If he runs simply reposition and run towards him again until he whiffs the overhead attack. When he does you can get in 3 to 4 hits before he recovers.
Phase 2 is pretty much the same except instead of running at him dash past him on either side to make him whiff or run.
Phase 3 also the same, except I use my fire paper here to cut down the length of the fight since you get poisoned so quickly just by engaging. If you do get poisoned, simply use the same strategy but heal instead of attacking after your dash. Another suggestion I can make is to not retreat that much, be the aggressor that way he doesn’t go into his multi swipe combo which usually leads to poison/death.
Yea that is the strat I use. This is my 5th time through this part of the game, I got a lot of exp on this boss, I’m pretty well versed in how his moves work an all, I just always eat a death or two (or five) for some reason. I always get tagged, or grabbed or something. He’s a real dick head imo lol.
I seriously wish you could buy Firepaper at this point in the game, even if was only through the Insight shop that would be fine. Those 3 you get from Alfred are precious indeed.
I also wish the throwing arcs in this game weren’t fucking terrible. I tried to mix it up this go through and see if I could get some solid use out of the Oil Urns and Fire Bombs and man the throw arc is so bad shit just sails over and past the BSB half the time even when locked on, fucking sucks. Better to just use an Oil Urn and then smack him with the Firepaper if you insist on throwing something.
was gonna respond to crotch regarding firepapers earlier but i couldn’t find a proper map
to mark out locations and whatever , so i quickly ran thru the beginning of the game to make the following vid.
I also don’t remember that last bit of gear, where you get that? Now that i own a PS4 of my own i can REALLY dig into the game and learn where everything is. Gonna bee nice.
yharnam hunters coat aka ludwigs coat aka the coat of the cleric beast.
you can buy it from the messengers once you have the badge that you get by killing the cleric beast.
has highest poison resistance of all early game sets.
