Blood is bad, but crazy hitsparks are ok?

That doesn’t matter…now, if that shit was, say BLUE, people would be bitching.

what was the waste basket for?

who cares

actually i prefer the new hit sparks on GGAC over the old blood effects that they used, the game looks better now with the new effects imo

I forgot to mention that on each bench was a box of generic kleenex…

forget all of that. they just need to bring back clothes ripping so i can see teh ‘boobs’ if i finish w/ a super move.

The Rumble Fish series has clothing damage for both sides. But we need a newer Fighter with parts damage

mk 9 suposedly will have that feature

snap
silly me, mk doesnt count

Steve Wilkos is bad, but little loligirls are OK? SERIOUSLY?

Hit sparks are fine, blood isn’t neccessary and anything overdone is bad.

I hope they change the current hit sparks on mvc3, ridiculous…

Hit sparks in moderation is fine, nothing as ridiculous as MvC3. Blood on the other when done tastefully and selectively can have a powerful effect on the audience, when it’s overdone like MK it comes off as silly and desperate.

In terms of SF, I think a few blood effects should be welcomed for certain attacks. Ryu’s scarring shin shoryuken would benefit from some blood for example, Blanka’s biting, Dictator’s punisher and so would some of Claw’s attacks, re-enforcing his sociopathic character. The SF2 animated movie struck the right balance of serious vs cartoony and it did have blood. SF4 sometimes feels like a parody of SF2 and a more serious tone would be welcome by me.

Maybe im wrong with this but, as far as i remember, there is a “legal” reason for this: JAMMA association change the official legal rules of Arcade games circa 2004 and they finally censor and ban all too bloody and porn/hentai games, i remember that Kaneko decided to not continue with their Gals Panic saga because of this, so… i guess thats the reason of the lack of blood in latest games.

The point of sparks is to hide graphical flaws. There’s no way to make each individual sprite in a game line-up %100, so the sparks sort of obscure the fact that the characters could possibly be misaligned, while at the same time, adding the sensation of impact.
That said, hitsparks are better than blood, because I can play a game without feeling like I’m a twelve-year-old. However, Guilty Gear had a nice balance, as did Last Blade, and SS, so blood is okay, granted that it is used reasonable (as in not MK).

And those Blitzkampf sparks are almost as distracting as the Batman effects. God damn.

How do you know?

The point of sparks is to make the game look flashy as heck and draw people’s attention to it in a crowded arcade. Hiding graphical flaws is just an unintended bonus at best.
