If you’re shooting people on top of the shuttle in Gibralter as D.Va, you’re actually not doing any damage because her shots only do two damage per bullet. Lol
No one is sleeping on D.Va. She has been unchanged for quite some time since the closed beta. Her weaknesses are widely known.
Besides we already know Mei is the best girl. Dat thickness.
Yeah, I’ve been having more fun playing D.va now that I’ve gotten a hang of the basics but she feels so useless in far too many situations. @owattjacob 's entire post basically made me cry. I hope they give her enough changes so she actually has a more effective role. Or something.
I’ve tried a bunch of other characters but I just don’t like them or suck at them. Like, McCree is cool but assuming main magnum style guns has always been nearly impossible for me.
Genji I’m confused on. Like, why is his melee and melee skill so weak? I mean I can see how he’s really mobile and all that, but where does his damage come from?
Why is Bastion not good at high level?
There’s a bunch of other characters I think are cool, like Pharah, Hanzo, Zenyatta, Mei, etc., but I have almost no interest in actually playing them.
Ugh maybe I just fucking hate class based games or something. I’m less annoyed by the Potemkin vs Zato-1 match than I am by D.va vs Tracer, Reaper, McCree. At least Potemkin can block infinitely, gets good corner pressure, and can kill in one or two combos.
Fuck mei and the little f@gs on your team that pick her and use her ice wall right as everyone is trying to leave the spawn lol.
And shit me at that damage I was blasting dudes right on top of their domes and they didn’t know what the fuck happened.
Been using Reaper and going ham, wish his teleport wasn’t so fucking slow…still had some HILARIOUS moments popping up behind snipers and just straight SHITTING on them.
If you play on console for genji, he’s going to be so much harder than he is already on PC. You need really good snap aiming for escapes and general upclose fights to have consistent damage and for getting the headshots.
Basically you pick your fights on your own terms with Genji, you can get high ground or to flank spots and play the annoying hit and run game. His shurikens have no fall off damage so if you see a free shot from a distance you can take it without worrying about lacking damage, if there’s a bastion that’s practically visible across the map you can freely chuck shurikens and he won’t damage you much due to his spread at long range. So matchups where you want to keep your distance/characters like reaper who lack midrange/long range damage you can play a lame game if needed.
Against characters who have trouble upclose, you can start flanking similarly to reaper and use his shuriken spread as you would a shotgun, it’s decent damage upclose that’s reliable.
Map knowledge is very important as genji as you’d want to know where you can instantly dash to cover/higher ground in a instant to retreat and look for health packs. Also good for just generally flanking and getting behind enemy lines. Genji has the best mobility in the game, use it to explore the map.
Genji’s dash does 50 damage and often mixes people up so you’d immediately turn around and get the next hit in before your opponent does and dance around people at close range. It’s also a great finisher, can cancel off shuriken recovery for quick burst. Remember that any assist/kills you get reset this dash.
Your ult is not one you’d use immediately, takes a bit to recognize a good opportunity. You get a free dash CD reset upon activating the ulti, so you can do stuff like dash -> ulti -> dash. The ulti swing does 120 damage and often you’d want to have a dash available to finish someone off or know that your initial swing will kill. When you kill someone with the dash your dash CD will come back again.
Pick easy targets to kill with ulti starting with like a mercy or lucio, but make sure you’re not spotted, then dash through to your next target, repeat, reflects here and there, it’s all up to your judgement and knowledge of the matchups, but he’s more than capable of wiping a team while dashing all over the place doing it.
Matchup knowledge is also important for knowing when to use your reflect. You can use it offensively or defensively depending on what you’re up against and if your position is unfavorable or not, like vs mcree upclose you’re very likely to get flashbanged or immediately fan the hammered the moment he sees you, so starting with reflect is fairly safe. You can reflect sniper shots back at the widowmaker if you aim it back at her. Junkrat within enclosed spaces give you decent reflects off his bombs you can’t reflect the mine explosion *interestingly enough you can reflect the mine itself and it’ll explode on contact.
There’s ults that you can reflect like pharah ult, mei ult if you reflect the robot before it lands it’ll act as if it’s in your possession bastion ults, Mcree ult, etc…
Furthermore there are matchups that I personally avoid as genji or greatly consider your positioning.
Spoiler
•Symmetra turrets give you a lot of problems so avoid them, can’t reflect symmetra turrets or leash so avoid her upclose entirely whenever possible and all of her turrets as well.
•Winston you’re favored at a mid/long range until you piss him off and he focuses you. You can’t reflect his lightning gun, his mobility is higher than yours with a shorter CD and his healthpool is too large to effectively dps race. Avoid 1v1ing him unless you’re at a safe distance.
•Mei is very annoying upclose, can’t reflect her spray so play a mid range or longer game and immediately dash to cover if she’s within spray range. Her sustain via iceblock makes her annoying as well.
•Torb with turrets tucked deep in a corner behind enemy lines will be difficult for you to effectively take out so if no one else is taking it out, switch to one that can punish that turret’s positioning. Otherwise genji is alright at sniping turrets and occasionally the torb.
•76, has more consistent midrange damage than you, and has a fairly decent upclose burst option. Fight when at a health advantage, when he’s distracted, and can fight upclose once you know his rocket is off CD.
Matchups that you do well at.
Spoiler
•Reinhardt, so many ways to fuck with him from so many angles and ranges. Be sure to be in higher ground or have a team ready to take rein down if you’re going to be jumping all over him.
•Roadhog, very easy target for you to attack at mid/long range with a fairly large hitbox for you to get headshots with. Avoid getting within hook range, ideally avoid grounded spots that roadhog likes to ambush from.
•Dva massive target, very easy to headshot, you can play really lame and force her to come to you ideally where the rest of your team is and just run every time she closes the distances. You’ll outdamage her from midrange or farther.
•All other supports, Zenyatta you have to ambush especially, respect his damage.
•Reaper is a good matchup from midrange or longer and you have better mobility to fight at whatever range you want/to reach better ground and a reflect if he ever manages to get close. Of course if he ambushes you somehow and gets the opening shot you gotta bail immediately.
•Widowmaker you annoy the hell out of her, you have no falloff damage so if by chance you notice she’s in scope looking else where, you can get a free triple shuriken headshot to give her a jolt. You have plenty of ways to approach her and stick to her, plenty of ways to avoid her sightline and getting sniped, you do very well upclose vs her, you can make her quit the game by reflecting her shot back at her, and plenty of routes to pick to flank her.
•Hanzo, easy to flank, he has little to no mobility. You’re very difficult to hit upclose, a reflect on any of his arrows back at him hurts him like hell. Due to his lack of mobility you can get a couple free hits on him from long range if he’s looking else where.
Even ish matchups but depends on situation
Spoiler
•Pharah is 50/50 but you gotta have good aim to catch her in the air. Be sure to position yourself to reflect the actual rockets and not the splash damage.
• Junkrat depends on his positioning, in enclosed spaces you’re at a disadvantage but you can reflect nades, from mid range you consistently do more damage than him and you’re often in high ground, makes it difficult for him to deal with you.
•Mcree depends on whether or not you reflected any of his fans/stuns or not. Otherwise unfavored at mid range on even ground, you can sorta harrass at higher ground and very unfavored up close with reflect down.
•Zarya, just stay out of beam range, you can’t reflect it, play lame and don’t feed her shield.
•Bastion depends on his positioning, you can reflect all his shots back at him and instantly kill him or anyone else in the line of fire, can punish bad positioning with long ranged shots and not worry too much about returning fire. Can quickly burst a bastion down from behind if he’s focused on another, 3x damage to the core on his back. You can either fan this or snipe it, have a reflect ready when he turns around.
•Tracer, depends on how good your aim is but easiest to hit her with the fan upclose but be sure to finish her off with your dash before she can react with her rewind. Use your dash either to finish off or to get within spread range, can use to escape to higher ground.
Also watch Seagull’s genji videos. His genji is god like. Genji is a very hard character to play effectively but quite good when used well.
Dorado is probably my favorite map to play Widowmaker on. That map was practically designed for her until you get into the final checkpoint.
I might post some D.VA play today or tomorrow. I had some good games last night. Looking back at the footage I kinda play her like an assassin in Smite. I sneak around on the sides and hit people. Then when it looks bad I just leave, get full health, and come right back again. Winston with Mercy assist is a super hard counter to her though. Can’t defense matrix the beam and he can chase hard with that big ass jump he can do.
I’ll probably try and get some Hanzo/Widowmaker stuff today. I was destroying with widow last night. Don’t know why I didn’t save it.
Played alot of Zarya/reinhardt/Mercy as a trio with friends on offense and defense and won a good majority of the games even vs strong premades. The shell is just so solid and offers so much synergy. Deals with pub torb/bastion shenanigans *reinhardt shields vs turret fire while team takes it out/if there’s a bastion then zarya barriers are a failsafe if reinhardt shield breaks, shields vs widowmakers. barriers to pass around the pub team mates that are in trouble and out of position/deep within a enemy team, to assist them with taking out turrets/bastion, etc… , 2 consistent team wiping ultis, pushes payload very well. Tanky while doing good damage for contesting points. Barriers allow reinhardt to drop shield and go in when needed, Zarya has the lowest effective health of all tanks without barriers so Reinhardt shield allows her to not take unnecessary fire.
Very very well rounded and compliments most of what pubs would pick on offense and defense whether it’s flank heavy or mid range heavy, either zarya or reinhardt or both will support them.
The coolest thing about Zarya’s projected barrier is that you can save someone that’d normally die from a instant kill combo/or extremely high damaging burst ult and they’d be unharmed like
•Roadhog hook into left click melee combo, can react to someone getting hooked and then apply barrier to them. I feel this is why roadhog struggles in the competitive meta on top of reinhardt blocking most hook attempts and his lack of mobility, he’s atleast passable with some flaws when this zarya/reinhardt duo isn’t present
•Reinhardt pinning someone mid charge. Apply barrier before the wall splat and they’d take no damage.
•Junkrat ult. The self barrier and the projected barrier both completely absorb the full brunt of the riptire leaving those protected unscathed, while zarya gets a damage boost
•mcree flashbang combo. The projected barrier absorbs most of mcrees double fan the hammer. Often saved my reinhardt buddy from getting flashbanged over his shield into the double fan.
•dva ult. You can absolutely swim sit right on top of the ult and either barrier will absorb the full amount.
•Reaper ult on team, have both barriers up on you and a team mate and you can kill reaper before his ult finishes.
but jesus I knew Zarya was good but after sticking to her and reacting to these situations with the barriers, she’s amazing. I wouldn’t be surprised if they nerfed that mechanic where the barriers will absorb more than max durability if the damage came all at once. The cd for the barriers aren’t too high either.
The fast chracters on console seem op die to the lack of aim assist. I cannot kill a tracer to savemy life99% of the time. Shes just too fast and the teleporting is impossible to keep up with with thumbsticks. Once youdo hurt her she just teleports backwards and fully heals basically… And genji is an other his little ninja stars to mad dmg and his ulti is also really hard to stop most the time since he alsl can teleport. Lucio altho not annoyig in a murder perspective is also stupid hard to hit on console. But out of all the characters i feel like tracers teleport needs a small nerf to its recharge rate. I dont think much can be done about genji and lucio i guess they are fine as is. But i honestly think tracer is way too hard to fight on console atm. The tracer player either has to be really really bad or have no idea what to do inorder to take her down esily, she should be high risk high reward but on console due to the low aim assist and the fact that a controler just isnt as good for aiming than mouse tracer is imo even better than she is on pc.
