Itâs funny how things go from one extreme to another⌠I was on a team getting outright destroyed over and over one gameâŚthen the next game I had Torb on a certain map, set up my sentry in my usual place there and barely got touchedâŚand doing the job of handing out armor packs⌠ending up with 18 kills, 1 death. It was delicious. If you find the ârightâ spot for that turret, a lot of people have trouble doing anything about it. Itâs surreal that this character that initially looked like trash to me is becoming one of my favorites so far.
I also played a bit of Symmetra earlierâŚgood fun with that one too; I didnât expect to like her beyond the notion of her being eye-candy. (smokinâ hot as hell, that one)
Dvaâs effective range is along the lines of reaper, except her movement speed while firing is along the lines of Hanzo nocking arrow before firing. The amount of falloff damage she gets on her main guns is horrific so in the midrange you can practically just freely dps her down since her hitbox on her head is huge. Good mobility at the least with a very very short cooldown on flight to make up for it somewhat to get within effective range but she often leaves herself quite exposed to being free fired by the rest of the team, so the flanking harrassment role doesnât exactly work for her.
Her guns do exceptionally well upclose to those targets that allow her to stick up close which leads to the next point.
Her job is anti stationary defense with some flanking/harrassment but still specifically designed to counter anti stationary defense. Her toolkit allows her reach points that are heavily contested with turrets while negating incoming fire while flying/moving so that she can be fully healthy while taking down stationary defense and then flying out to safety.
Room filled with symmetra turrets? no ammo limits so she can clear a room/hallway of them for you where ever they are.
Torb with a turret tucked behind enemy lines? She can fly to flank routes and completely backdoor a team, negate initial turret fire, deal with torb or ignore him entirely, do max dps to a turret upclose and then bail.
Bastion she can distract a fair amount by making him switch focus targets or risk dying, and also leave some openings by negating his outgoing damage WITH some coordination pubs wonât often open fire on a bastion when you want to so dva is otherwise not too amazing of a anti-bastion option without a communication
She has some options of bothering a widowmaker, but not outright countering her or anything. Just enough to distract her and let your team push up.
Lastly again if you need a immediate tanky body to reach a point before it gets capped, dva is the go to for a panic defense character switch.
To summarize her role, if a team is absolutely stacked with torbs and symmetra turrets, sheâs the undisputed best at clearing a point of this with her ult or individually dealing with them, with some heals. Multiple bastions she can atleast force to unpack and move from ulti but not a definite counter, this does leave an opening. If youâre not specifically dealing with stationary targets youâre better off picking Winston for the mobile tanky harrass role.
Winston is more suited for backline harrassment with a similar CD on his jump to reach the backline where all the healers are at but a placeable shield that can mitigate a fair bit of incoming team damage once they switch focus⌠AND more importantly still pressure with the shield up and allows him to jump out afterwards. His gun also hits AoE for a fairly decent amount so if left unchecked he will do considerable damage to a group over time, so ignoring winston isnât too great. Especially if your healer is at risk. This distraction allows your team to move up and pressure the opposing team while they get distracted. His ulti also further suits this role since even if heâs at 1 health, popping the ulti will give him a full 1000+ health pool and a extremely low jump CD to cause havoc with.
Dva attempting to do the same role will take more incoming damage from the rest of the team while only dealing with targets 1v1 in a ideal upclose fight. Her projected shield doesnât allow her to attack back unlike Winston, so sheâll often have to leave a lot earlier or accomplish very little in comparison unless youâre vs a pub team thats completely inept and lets a dva individually open fire upclose from behind. Winston would likely deal a similar amount of backline destruction if that were the case.
Reason why competitive play often forgoes Dva entirely is because thereâs not nearly as much Torbs/Bastions running utter amok unlike pubs where theyâll spend half the game finding a opening. Teams are coordinated enough to punish torb without needing a dva. When you gotta take matters in your own hands in pubs to deal with stationary targets that the rest of your pub team is shat at, thatâs where dva shines. The situation happens enough times so sheâs alright vs other pub teams while on attack. Vs a more competent team, youâll be getting much much less mileage.
If you play dva as a aggressive upclose flanker for wiping a team starting from the backline, the role is more suited for Reaper. He can reach much of the spots dva can with the teleports, invincibility for escaping, 250 health which is the highest health for dps, for every assist or elimination reaper gets the enemy leaves a 50 hp health globe for on battle sustain, has a great team wiping ulti. Lastly reaper has quiet footsteps and approach options unless you teleport right next to someone. Dva has very VERY loud and distinctive footsteps and landing sounds. She can be sneaky with her flank routes but not as stealthily as a reaper. She makes this up with having much more mobility on a shorter CD, high health and being more suited vs turrets than reaper.
Also please donât use dva on defense as a solo tank. As boring as it is, pick reinhardt to properly defend the team or hell roadhog with some torb/bastion support is even a better idea. Can atleast back off to safety of your teamâs turrets to sustain yourself and pick off offense from the mid range. However if you must;
Some dva synergy for you guys that play her; Zarya helps her a fair amount. Projected shield allows you absorb 400 damage while in a fire fight, allowing you to stick in a fight longer and boosts Zaryaâs damage. If you got a friend have them compliment your dva with Zarya if possible. Also Zarya allows the dva ult to actually consistently wipe a team with her own ult to gather them all up while dvaâs ult is charging if you properly coordinate it.
The Dva - Zarya combo works better on offense but if you wanna fuck around in pubs on defense, Zarya makes defense Dva much more useable. Zarya in general compliment other tanks very well in general so keep that in mind for team building. Preferably have a dedicated mercy to sustain dva/zarya. Zarya can also shield the mercy whenever she gets focused down as well.
Zaryaâs damage uncharged is passable atleast compared to dva firing at the mid range, Zaryaâs beam range is longer than most people would think and her mortars would otherwise reach farther. Better than watching pixels being ticked off, and the mortars hitting around corners is useful.
Fully charged Zarya can nuke a team by herself with ulti + mortars very consistently, and fully charged.
For exact damage numbers, her damage uncharged with her beam is 80 dps. Fully charged itâs 160 dps~. Each point of charge from 1-100 gives you 1% more damage.
Yes, yes, and yes. Trying to kill most characters with a Mercy behind them is almost impossible unless you blow an ult. You ever try killing a Roadhog, Winston, or Reinhardt with a pocket Mercy? If you see a Mercy, always, and I mean, always go for her. Itâs not worth the headache and drawn out fight of trying to kill who sheâs healing. Itâs a fucking disaster.
For some general anti mercy strats, if she likes hanging behind shields/teams or around corners, pick flankers. Genji, tracer, reaper, pharah are great for this. Tracer does a fair amount of burst damage and has great ground mobility. Reaper can outright kill her before she can even react.
If you play as pharah and you see her hanging behind shield really often, use the knockback projectile to reposition the reinhardt, put reinhardt at a more awkward position to defend from if heâs too close to the opposing team or just off postion in general. Otherwise if no one is shooting you out of the sky/the high vantage point then you can freely assault mercy while sheâs grounded.
Genji doesnât give a fuck where mercy is. If he wants to be on that ass he will be on that ass.
If mercy likes hanging with a pharah and often would, pick 76/mcree/zenyatta/widowmaker/bastion/Hanzo if youâre good. Keeps them out of the sky and reliably punishes them if they stay up too long.
Roadhog is a decent option if your hook accuracy is on point and sheâs not hanging behind shields.
Yeah. Tracer and Genji are the bane of my existence as Mercy. They can get behind me fairly quickly and can kill me fast enough that my team doesnât know it. I use discord so Iâm always talking on the mic to give heads up but theyâll kill you pretty quickly.
As far as roadhog the most brutal counter is Zenyatta behind his team. Zenyatta has no damage fall off on his attacks can practically assault roadhog from across the map, discord orb is 50% damage taken as a debuff.
When applied to a character like roadhog that has a massive hitbox and not too much mobility, he immediately just becomes a giant target dummy with half his effective health as long as heâs anywhere near Zenyattaâs line of sight. Zenyatta thrives vs teams with multiple tanks that arenât Reinhardt and does alright vs him, 50% damage taken on tanks like dva/winston/roadhog makes them quite vulnerable to being dispatched quickly by team fire. Zenyattaâs damage is quite high overall as well.
Zenyatta is squishy so must be well protected and positioned well alternatively Zenyatta gotta have pretty good aim to fend off vs flankers but if left unchecked heâs the premier ranged tank buster. Discord orb on a roadhog paired with a reaper going in on him is hilarious.
Coincidentally I feel Zenyatta from midrange mid-long range is the best at destroying dva. With discord orb and dvaâs extraordinarily large headshot hitbox, Zenyatta can decimate Dva from max health rather quickly. For dva you have to not be within his sight lines and have to engage him immediately upclose. Otherwise youâll be dealing with discord orb.
Btw I got footage of like 4x Zenyatta 1x genji vs multiple dvas and roadhogs back in december. They couldnât even leave the spawn point.
This was when Orbs of Harmony the heal over time orb and Discord stacked with other Zenyattas orbs. So with the opposing team picking mostly tanks, it wasnât pretty.
Zen orbs also didnât have the LOS mechanic back then. He was actually sooooooo much stronger back then. Like if he was like that now in the video you linked, you would definitely see Zen, maybe even two on one team, every game.
Dudes sleeping on d.va, great positional character that barely dies and can attack from crazy angles. Remember being on that map with the suspended plane and being on top of it merking the enemy team and no one could touch me and barely knew where I was shooting them from lol. Anytime you are in close is when you are looping back to medpaks fast as fuck or about to drop the bomb on them bitches.
Ainât sleeping on her when Iâve been playing vs her since october lol. Once you get lots of experience with all the characters and plenty of game time youâll see her strengths and weaknesses clearly, as for the rest of the characters. If anything everyone just glorifies a rather popular character with a cool design whoâs also fun to play, beyond her specific role after finally getting into the beta last week.
Initial impressions for about a week on a character with probably the most SFM porn aside from widowmaker and tracer does that to people lol. Of course blizzard is one to completely flip tables of a characters strengths and weakness with their rather drastic patching, so everything we know may flip once launch comes around.
Lucios a better healer he can amplify healing and when you feel like you being attacked too much
Switch to speed amplify
And get outta there then heal
You can provide cover fire as well as use the speed to get people back into battle faster
Lucios is a godlike support but a team has more than enough space to fit another support to compliment, allows him to use his speed aura even more which is great for the team if thereâs another mercy on the team, while still having the option to swap to heal aura. Heâs otherwise just fine for solo support. Not even a bad idea to run two lucios.
Hrm, my general statement somehow involves you and your terrible porn addiction how?
Really it was more directed at the guy saying she was weak which she isnât at all, sheâs just not a regular tank character. What the fuck does SFM stand for anyways lol.
