I’ve played all of 2 hours of this and I"m not a big FPS play but I enjoyed this. I really like Roadhog and Pharrah the best at this point. I’ve only played QM games and they were a mixed bag a couple my team fucking wrecked the other team and then we had another match where we held the capture point to 99%* then got taken to OT and ended up fucking losing.
“Protect the President” is an offensive strategy for payload maps, where you get 2x Reindhardt, 2x Widowmaker, a mercy (damage boost and heals) and a Bastion (the president). He parks on the cart and does a rolling ball of death.
I think he’s actually sort of on the weaker side for defense, but he is a noob killer (which is why he kills me all the time). Back in the day he did more damage and had his own personal defense shield like Reindhardt, but couldn’t turn 360 degrees; he was way fucking too strong then lol. He got overtuned I think. But we shall see.
For the most part, I think a majority of the cast can be tossed around between A and B tier. Tracer and Lucio were consistently S for quite some time, and now it feels like McCree, even with his recent Fan the Hammer nerf, is still very high up there because lack of bad matchups. Mei can be C or D, but I think she’s definitely better than Bastion, who is among the worst. The reason why Bastion is really awful is because of how fragile and predictable he is. He has tons of bad matchups, making him easily counterable, and his lack of mobility and tankiness makes him very squishy. He is great at shredding through noobs, but outside of the payload strat Pimp Willy posted about (which I’ve seen before), he is really struggling to find a place in the game right now in higher levels of play. Rein + Mercy + Bastion is a VERY strong combo but if either Mercy or Bastion die, you lose a shit ton of momentum.
Yeah Bastion is more of a noob killer, but I place him high due to his sheer suppression factor alone. If he’s parked up in a good choke point he can do a lot to halt forward progress from an attack team simply because they don’t want to get hit with all those bullets. Yeah Reinhardt and D.VA can be a counter to that but that still means the attackers have one guy locked into a specific part of the map just to counter him, leaving people open elsewhere.
Also is it me or is the last part of Hollywood a super pain in the ass on attack? Heigh disadvantage and two bottlenecks for enemy attacks make it hard to deal with
Like I said with Bastion earlier is that he is very fragile and can’t be parked in one place for too long. He’ll die to heroes like Pharah, Junkrat, Widow, and Hanzo very easily if they know his position. Tracer with ult can also easily get to him and blow him up.
There are better heroes that deny area and offer more utility to the team than Bastion right now.
Did a quick current review of the competitive scene and i’ll bring down mei to C tier. Mcree to A+ tier, bringing up Winston to A tier but i gotta see where they’re using him. Apparently i’m 2 months behind on the Zenyatta meta, prior to the nerfs he was S tier but with the nerfs he fell to being practically unpicked, apparently the only character to go from top to immediate bottom. I’ll leave him in A tier though he’s cool and I like him for fucking with SWBeta/zarya/roadhog.
Yeah tracer I always felt was strong but I just prefer Genji. Slight bias lol.
Genji feels pretty balanced now after his damage nerf and the nerf to Zen. He’s definitely still annoying to play against sometimes, although he does have some good matchups. It’s been a while since I’ve read up on the competitive meta too but for a while I think teams were playing a lot of KOTH maps, which Winston is good on for his ult displacing people. I don’t think that justifies putting him higher up though just because teams keep playing KOTH maps (which also causes meta shifts to happen, like Tracer not being good on KOTH maps despite having no bad matchups).
Every time I hear someone say Mei is OP though I want to fucking kill myself. lol
I agree. Communication is so key and I wish people would use mics more. Why I’m glad I play with at least one person I know so I can be his pocket medic, when we do our Rein/Mercy combo. But there are times when I’ll turn around and if I was warned 2 seconds earlier, I would’ve lived. But the person that was running after the enemy couldn’t say anything cause “mic? no.”
Finally got to play in a few real matches.
I have been using zarya the most but I can change as need be.
i didnt have my mic at the time but someone on my team said over the comm that we were unbalanced and needed a healer so I obliged. we won easily mercy is fun to play with as well
balance and switching characters is really important.
Yeah I pulled a 5 kill with D.VA’s nuke ult in a single game. Obviously that made play of the game. I did some training mode research and discovered that her mechs cannons experience damage fall off after 15 meters. While her hand gun on foot actually has no fall off whatsoever and does the same damage whether she’s point blank or 70 meters away.
Also you don’t even need kills to get the nech back. Just landing a shot gives around 3% ult to D.VA on foot. So just spam it down a crowded hallway at anything that moves
D.Va’s ult is probably among the worst in the fame, actually. It’s good for contesting points to get people off the point, but landing kills without some sort of setup is pretty hard against players that know how to avoid it.
Also, speaking of D.Va ult, damage block instances can negate it entirely. Basically, abilities that block damage like Zarya’s shield or Reinhardt’s shield can completely negate big ults like D.Va’s or Junkrat’s. Basically if an ult does 600 damage, and Zarya’s shield blocks 400 damage, all 600 damage is blocked; the remaining 200 damage is not carried over. This is important to know for counterplays.
As mercy - So far I really like teaming up with Soldier, Bastion, and Roadhog. Their in and out style + my damage buffs allows me to focus on where other teammates in the area while continuing to assist them. I dislike Reinhardt the most. I mean, the way people play Reinhardt at the moment doesn’t match well with Mercy’s playstyle. They’re either attracting way too much attention for someone like Mercy or they’re being way too aggressive. Staying alive is top priority. The moment I die it just fucks my entire team in the ass, people tend to get reckless when they know I’m there to heal them. I think someone like Lucio would work a lot better for Reinhardt since he can heal and give speed buffs. Mercy has to keep an eye on everyone’s HP. There have been way to many instances where I’m babysitting the entire squad.
By the way, getting pistol killed with Mercy… just throw your controller at the wall, lol. My strafe game is usually on point, though, there is no aim assist on PC. Not sure about console Overwatch since console fps always have aim assistance.
I wouldn’t say D Va’s Ult is garbage. It can be used to push any objective when on the offense making it useful in strategic play.
D.Va wins best waifu , but Mercy is sitting at a strong second place. It’s funny when you like… pin someone in a corner and they wont have enough time to escape, lol.
Oh yeah, there was one thing a Reinhardt did to me; When I ejecto seato he used a well timed Ult and that knocked me down during the frames. It could be due to online, but I think her hitbox is in a different position then her actual avatar. I saw Roadhog try to grab me out of eject too. Wish I was recording those match.
Played a game of Payload in the London map as Mercy. Most of my team wiped with seconds on the left clock trying to cap the first point and I managed to mass rez them to cap the point and get more time. We managed to win and I expected to get Play of the Game but no. A triple kill from Soldier:76 was more important. Supports, as usual, get the shaft when it comes to recognition lol. :crybaby:
The trick with D.VA’s ult to it out when nobody is looking at you while they’re having a firefight with your teammates. Air dropping it in by activating it while boosting at an upwards angle also keeps it out of sight during some of the start up. After a certain distances it loses all momentum and drops straight down like a brick in water.
