Mayuri was just following orders then and even then, he acted more on his own interest by doing so 'cause he wanted to check Szayel’s lab.
I don’t think that action in HM can replace Mayuri killing his grandfather who tought him much of the Quincy ways and was more of a father figure to him than Ryuuken and Mayuri being one of the biggest executioners of his race.
IMO, Uryuu deserves his revenge and I’m not even an Uryuu fan but it makes perfect sense plotwise. Mayuri is an evil motherfucker and karma’s time is almost up.

As for the case of Mayuri vs. Ishida, The Mad Scientist Shinigami will not die. It’s kinda like the Vegeta situation in DBZ. Yeah he killed an ally that wasn’t really a vital part of the story, but his contributions tip the scales in favor of his usefulness needed in being alive. Might take a LONG while but the two will eventually learn to tolerate each other in small doses.

I’m thinking that Mayuri should have developed some sort of prep-time device to prevent the remaining captains’ bankai from getting stolen. If not, then Kyouraku is going to have the shortest tenure as Captain-Commander of the Gotei 13.
His shikai is mad nice, but I don’t believe that it’s on the level of, say, Izuru Kira’s. Even then, he still got manhandled by the Wandenreich during their last battle, and he’s fighting someone (supposedly) stronger than the guy that beat him.
I don’t like his odds of winning without bankai, that’s all I’m saying.
That’s if Mr. Hat-and-Clogs even wants to come back. Last I heard he was very happy in Karakura Town with his shop & Yoruichi, and the 13 Court Guard Squad isn’t exactly rolling out the red carpet for him, even with how he helped stop Aizen.
