That still doesn’t hold up, I mean apart from the fact that it never made any sense in the first place. It is again judging ichigo in a vacuum.
- Every other shinigami even those more powerful than ichigo can put their sword back into its normal form
- Fake zangetsu didn’t looked like a normal zanpakuto, because it wasn’t a zanpakuto, not because of that fake excuse.
- Kubo may choose to skip this, but technically Ichigo shouldn’t even have a bankai anymore. He is more than powerful enough to have one, but depending on how Kubo plays the relationship between Ichigo and his true zanpakuto he may need to relearn how to perform his bankai. If the new spirit was watching him and already knows him it may not matter, but if they are just meeting for the first time then their Ichigo shouldn’t be able to use bankai. …maybe a mini training arc with Isshin on how to control a fire Zanpakuto.
Maybe this explains how he blocked that Phoenix, because that shit never made any sense.

He shouldn’t, he already knows Zangetsu. He’s talked and dealt with him multiple times.
However, I would have NO issue with a ‘rewind’ in states, where what we perceive as bankai is really just his shikai.

This chapter was pretty fire. lol. So the reason Ichi had the bandage over his sword originally was to subdue it’s power. Also that Quicy’s have black blades and Shini’s have white blades. >.< Zangetsu 2.0 will probably look like a cooler version of Ywach’s spirit weapon. Now it’s time for Ichigo to head to Osho to learn some advanced tech.
Again, if “talked and dealt with multiple times” is enough is up to Kubo. A normal bankai was supposed to take decades to achieve. Ichigo got his “bankai” in three days, thanks to Urahara, but all of that training in the cave was with “Zangetsu” and not Zangetsu.
You are forgetting that even when “Zangetsu” tried to prevent his growth, Ichigo was still able to get some power that he were not able to supress, i wouldn’t be surprised that even when it wasn’t the real Zangetsu, The Old Man was still passing some of the knowledge as a medium between the real z and ichigo.
After all, he taught him the Getsuga Tensho and the Final Getsuga Tensho, and no, i am pretty sure that the FGT was a Shinigami tech from the real Zangetsu but what we saw was simply gimped due being only a little part of the real power.
The Old Man already said it, he tried to prevent Ichigo becoming a shinigami, but after time passed he started to let him be.
I wouldn’t be surprised that the real form of Zangetsu in shikai and banka end being similar on some form with what we currently know, considering how much foreshadowing has been occurring during the manga, i think that we already saw a glimpse of it.

wow im suprised the amount of love this is getting… I honestly just signed on to see if anyone was posting anything funny about how stupid this is, and once again another power up sorta vibe wasnt using his full power blah blah… The whole manga has been the same thing over and over again.

Not as active as I used to be in this thread but, bleach is really coming together. The whole zangetsu/juha is great. Maybe not as masterful as the Aizen reveal in the SS arc but still good.
What Kubo wrote makes sense because we already have a person like this - Zaraki. Now if you want to say Zaraki’s sword isn’t his/isn’t in Shikai/whatever, then you’re putting speculation on top of speculation.
Every other shinigami even those more powerful than Ichigo (Aside from Yamamoto,maybe Zaraki, Shinsui and his gay lover) do not have the spiritual power that Ichigo has. Unohana was utterly surprised when they were on that spirit bridge because he wasn’t even at half strength. All that spiritual power to a guy who can’t really control it too well and we now have a shinigami who can’t seal his sword into the default form.
As for your other point about technically not having a Bankai, in the last chapter, Fake Zangetsu says “What you’ve been wielding up til now has only been a fraction of your power…the fraction I was unable to suppress.” So what form was Ichigo in? when he transforms? Shikai? Are his abilities THAT ridiculous that his gimped form of Shikai can beat captains and go toe to toe with SSJ3 Aizen?
If Kubo wants to write it that way, sure. But everybody from Isshin, Urahara, Yamamoto, etc. says its his Bankai. It’s hard to imagine them being all incorrect. If some were purposefully lying (like Fake Zangetsu lying when he says he’s the real one), then we as readers have to believe what they’re saying until it’s hinted or shown they’re lying.
I agree, seems kinda dumb, but it is what it is.
I was seriously hoping for Kubo to at least end the chapter with the new sword instead of waiting another week to see it…
How long have you been reading Bleach?
to me that WAS his new sword. I mean I guess there is still the physical manifestation of it - but this was actually a complete chapter IMO.
I wonder if Renji’s bankai is going to become useful now…
