BLAZBLUE: Q&A For newcomers (PLEASE POST/CHECK HERE BEFORE MAKING A THREAD!)

It’s not static +5 frame adv. it’s that you take 5 less frames to RECOVER from block stun. You may still be in disadvantage after that though, or you’ll be in advantage, but they can still chain attacks so it’s not like you can do anything unless you have a DP or some other attack that has invul or executes VERY fast. Depending on the situation of course.

Every hit has to be IB’d. Only exceptions are extremely quick hitting attacks like some of Nu’s C normals which make all eight of her swords hit you quickly. In this case, tapping back once would cover the first few hits, but you’d need to do it 2 or 3 times to cover all 8 hits.

I’m gonna throw out an example, you tell me if I’m getting it or not because personally, hit stun and block stun is almost irrelevant to me when reading frames, but maybe im just reading it wrong.

Lets say Ragna is right up next to you, as close as possible. He does 5C, and the properties of that move is +1 on hit, -3 on block (I’m just making up numbers here).

If he hits you, he has 1 frame on you.
If you block, you’re 3 frames up on him.
If you instant block, you’re up +8 frames on him?

I know that’s a very archaic example but is this how I’m suppose to think?

I am having a hard time transitioning into playing this game. I LOVE characters with good RANGE. That is why I main Chun Li in SF4, Eddy in Tekken, Marth in Smash bros.

I’m thinking about maining Hakumen in blazblue. If not Hakumen is there any other characters in BB that have good Range on their attacks. Please don’t include projectile heavy characters like Nu and Arakune, I don’t like throwing obsessive projectiles.

From http://s1.zetaboards.com/blazblue/pages/05#instantguard -

Instant Guard is a bit harder to do than the basic one, and more rewarding to return. By holding back to defend an attack within 8 frames, your character flashes white to indicate you instant block successfully. The differences between Instant Guard and Basic Guard are:

  1. Recover from guard stun 10F quicker in the air, and 5F quicker on the ground
  2. The hit back effect of the attack is halved
  3. Able to guard the air unblockable
  4. Fixed 3% increase in Heat Gauge everytime you Instant Guard

I’m pretty sure that yes, you’d be up 8 frames on him.

Hakumen actually gets out ranged by a decent portion of the cast. And I’m not just talking about the marvel characters. Ragna and Taokaka have more range, plus more mobility, without losing 1/3 of your life for whiffing or getting blocked. Noel also has more range, by combining the reach of her normals with her speed/mobility.

It shouldn’t make any difference. It’s there in case a game requires one or the other, but it’s not like the stick becomes analog when it’s set to LS.

Instant block can actually cause you to eat a hit sometimes. It happens because BlazBlue auto-guards block strings as long as you remain in block-stun. Sometimes if you IB one of the attacks, you’ll actually recover completely and eat a hit. It’s easy to avoid this happening, as all you have to do is continue holding back after your IB (or go for another IB), but it’s something you should be aware of.

So much information! :looney: It’s really exciting. I will do some research and return with more questions I don’t understand. Thanks for everyone’s help.

I have a question. It could be really stupid, and it was probably answered, but I don’t have the time to look the whole thread.

So the question is, can a player with the US version of the game, play someone with the JAP version online? Cuz all here around me, have the JAP version, and I don’t know if I should get this one, or the US version :/.

Thanks for the answers.

Yeah, they can. US players and Japanese players often play against each other online, to boot (so long as it’s not a stupid laggy match).

What was in the 14MB update to the PS3 version of the game?

I haven’t played BB since launch (I play in the arcade mostly) so when I tried to play the game it updated it. Anything interesting that’s new?

Wait, why did me post show up here? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

the netcode patch :coffee:

I’m kinda curious about one of Jin’s moves. Browsing in the Jin thread here and on Dustloop, many players talk about buffering Jin’s Astral Finish with the taunt animation. However, in the tutorial DVD, the user was able to pull off the Astral Finish without any sort of move buffer, and without jumping. This actually isn’t Jin specific at all, but for those who need to input a 720 + button to do a move, is it possible to actually do this, or was the dvd edited to some extent and things were lost in the translation?

the dvd used easy special

Touche.

Litchi has great range when she has the staff. 6B seems like it goes 60% of the screen, and on counterhit it creates an untechable wallbounce that opens for a combo. 2B is about as long and hits low, you can follow up with 6A which hits high.

Decent damage, great corner game. Good mixups without mantebou (using mantebou to cover you while you mixup).
Very execution heavy though.

wow guys im a total noob (only like lvl 21 lol)
but im a noob to fighting games other than smash in general, so maybe hanging around these forums will help out alot.

anyways, i wanted to ask you awesome blazblue fighters for general/ basic tips for this game.
for example, what should i try to master first? Blocking, countering , timing? stuff like that. You see- im trying to ask something really really broad.
I guess what im trying to say is, how do i get better? (LOL!)
Because you see, just training over and over again really wont make me better, i dont think so. Because if you dont have some skills to train on- what exactly are you training for? -_-

Thanks in advance. Im so sorry for the newbiness of my question ><

General advise for getting better:
Find a character you really like, stick with them, learn their combos/strengths/weaknesses and try to find someone better then you to play against (preferably in real life but online works too).

Step 1
Find a character
Step 2
Go to dustloop/srk character specific forums
Step 3
Learn their BnB
Step 4
Play people (locally if you can)
Step 5
Learn advanced stuff.

Step 4 being super important.

Sup guys?I have kind of a stupid question but maybe others that have gone through this can tell me.
On the trophy list theres the “play over 100 battles in Ranked” and the same for 200 battles, well I don’t know if this is suposed to happen I’m already at 250 battles in ranked and still no 200 trophy, btw I only got my 100 battle trophy on my 180th battle,is it meant to be like this?
I was thinking maybe there’s a time daily when the server checks for that and gives you the trophy and I might not be online at the time or something like that.
Rock on,cheers
