I can actually completely see that. I mean hell, even look at the Alpha series and the other ones.
that does not mean that it would not have revisions, and for what we know so far, the plans cold have been changed, despite the stupid shit that comes with every blazblue thread on this dumb site, blazblue is still a very popular game on its native country that gets a lot of play despite that it was not one of the main games on the tougeki, i can easily see them releasing some revisions/dlc characters after the release of Chorono Phantasma
i did, and i love the game, i have a lot of fun with it
and if i remember well, it sold around 200k copies maybe more maybe less, there is not enough reliable sources to get accurate data on it
because the sells of the dlc charcaters showed them that no one wanted dlc characters, everyone skipped them because they were expecting the retail version of the game with them, but when this one came out everyone complained that they released it as a new disc instead as a dlc update
so what the fuck would they do, if no one knows what they really want
BBCT
BBCS, BBCS2 which is a pacth for BBCS
and BBCSEX wich it was a retailer
4 games so far or if you want to be nitpicky 3 since there was not a real release for BBCS2 on consoles other as a patch
the real difference here is that in the guilty gear era, they released a licensed game between the revisions of guilty gear, with blazblue they did it until now with persona ultimate between extend and chrono phantasma
maybe they would do this for both games, a year for the revision of bb and a year for the revision of p4u, considering that they said that they want to expand p4u and make it a full fighting game franchise
dlc characters and a dlc balance patch are two very very different beasts.
Especially given Arc’s history of not letting DLC apply in the next version.
while i find the notion that your colors don’t carry over iterations kinda annoying, is not really a big problem; and it only happened between CT to CS, all the colors and other DLC stuff were unlockable content on CSEX, it happened one fucking time so saying that they are know for something that has been only an issue once is just…
or are you implying that would have wiser for them to keep them as dlc?
because i have read that bullshit posted on srk, and to be honest that is one of the dumbest things that i have read on this site.
and no, is not a different beast at all, thinking otherwise is foolish.
like i have said before, i like how they did it with CS to CS2
the balance patch is free so even when not everyone buys the characters, you don’t divide the player base, and sell the characters individually, so that way you only buy the characters that you really want to play, perhaps the only thing they needed to do, is adding a bundle with all the chars a little cheaper for those who like to have every character/ for tournament organizers.
and of course added story mode for the dlc characters for the storyfags that like that stuff, and dont leave it outside like CS to CS2.
You get my point though.
At this point why bother getting into it unless you’re a hardcore fan? It’s like dangling the bait for the fish in the pond you haven’t scared away by the other means of baiting you’ve tried four times already lol
to be honest i don’t know what is your point, and if it is what i think why is only a problem in the fighting game community.
its not a problem on the communities around the sport games or first person shooter games
before 2009 having a revision on the games that we played was a blessing, because usually the games improved and were near to that balance that we as a players and the developers at least in theory crave for, not to mention that we saw how the game expanded on different options being new mechanics or new characters.
the real problem here as from what i see it, is that the market does not know what they want
they don’t want new retail revisions, but they don’t want dlc character either
so what to do?
and why is this only a problem on this genre?
It’s a problem in this genre because what else can you offer in a fighting game? You can get maps and modes and extra content in other games, but we get extra colors and a few sparse offerings of characters. Other games have had their testing grounds on the PC too, the games you buy can actually be expanded upon.
And my point is that our genre is stuck in this rut where we just keep cascading back to this little hardcore group of ours being a thrown a bone so we can all go rabid over it instead of being respected enough to get actual updates and content properly. SF4, BB, and UMvC3 are guilty of this.
I mean if a friend asked me ‘hey should I try out BB?’ I’d flat out tell him no because lord knows there’s another version coming. Fucking Guilty Gear even gets ‘updated’ 10 years later.
on your analogy the new characters are equivalent to the new maps/weapons for the fps
and sport games don’t really get any kind of specific update outside new line ups and new players who outside the most avid hardcore enthusiast of the sports would notice.
so what is your proposal?
keep in mind that every company behind those fighting games are different on how they approach the market, specially because some depend more on the fighting games that they develop for their revenue, not to mention that some of those their primary focus is the arcade market that justifies this approach
dunno but i feel that you expect stuff that is not reasonable outside the realm of fighting games
what can be added on the revisions and sequels that you could consider it actual updates and content?
if balance changes and new characters are not enough, then what is it?
so do you think that a new revision for GGAC is a bad idea?
do you think that re-releasing GGAC as it is would be enough to attract old and new players?
if not what would be needed?
do you really believe that recommending a game that your friend can potentially enjoy and invest hundreds of hours is not really worthy, just because its probable that it would get a revision and would be improved?
then what fighting game would you recommend and why?
You can always pretend it’s like Melty Blood where you can only get to play 1 out of every 3 arcade revisions.
There seems to be no option that is “fair towards the console consumer” yet is still profitable enough to keep up with constant arcade updates. I’d rather pay full price every year than to watch the JP arcade players playing something I can’t, effectively killing the console scene in the process.
As harsh it sounds I want the Japanese arcade to die out already so we don’t have be ‘behind’ on anything.
That or the Japanese arcade industry has to wake the fuck up and realize that it’s not the epicenter of fighting games anymore and that there’s an actual global market to these games now.
so instead of offering a intelligent alternative you want something that without a doubt would kill the genre
I used to think like this when–
No wait, no I never have. Even back when we were arcade-less. Oh welp.
We should just leave the fighter genre and join the rest of the world for Black Ops 2 with that mindset
well no, it would be good for a lot of these games. The ‘out in arcade in japan but we can’t play it for 8 months’ effect is a definite drag on hype.
I’ve heard a lot of complaints about Extend lately and I kinda brushed it off until about a week ago. It does feel like a big chunk of the game has moved to the corner and the game is pretty weak outside of that zone. It honestly does feel like the characters lack bite in this version compared to the other games like CS1 and CT where characters actually stand out. It’s not as tense as it was before for some reason. I still prefer Extend over CT. CS1 was probably the sweet spot despite Bang’s shenanigans and Litchi’s… very presence.
BlazBlue needed a shakeup and fusing X-factor with Dark force seems like a good first step. Other changes like the addition of P4A’s tech system is also nice. Everyone needs to really stand out in the next game. Tsubaki needs to be a threat when she gets the meter much more quickly than now, Bang needs some meterless defensive options besides barrier guard/5A, Tager needs to actually play like a grappler with air grabs/better mobility/damage, Makoto needs to be slightly closer to her CS2 version, Ragna’s silly combos for days need to be condensed(nobody wants to sit there watching a 40 hit combo in a 1v1 non mahvel game), etc…
Extend probably would have been greeted much better had ASW actually paid attention to their competitors for once. Capcom may be Capcpom these days, but they didn’t completely screw over their SF fanbase and that has to count for something in this genre.
I like the character unique stories. You get to explore things that you wouldn’t see anywhere else and it allows ASW to come up with hilarious joke endings. Seriously… there is a lot of room here for different kinds of stories. Changing it wouldn’t make MK heads want to play the game anyway.
Must…play…Call of Duty…trolls in COD are my master…must…buy…game.
If killing arcades would kill the genre then it doesn’t deserve to live period.
I don’t want to constantly be behind a game the rest of the world is waiting for because some island nation halfway across the world wants to selfishly keep the newest version to themselves (or worse charge people the price of a fucking car to have it outside of said island illegally).
the arcades are slowly going down in japan if im not correct,
If “these games” means french bread games than no. Only Japan gives a fuck yet you somehow count it as a bad thing against them? The problem relies in how western audience will NOT buy the games and make them profitable enough.
Without arcades the ONLY games you’ll see are new scrubby SF and marvel titles. Now THAT will be the end of the genre.
