Blanka Video Thread

Do you guys know that plinking lp~lk make blanka do kara-throw ?

I find it very useful when doing j.HK, c.MK throw because you are not obliged to go forward before throw

Good shit MOD. Rep that America Blanka in Japan.

Good shit Mullah, realized that I REALLY need to poke more  lol

here’s a random question:
how many styles of Blanka are there, and which one are you?

Dirty Blanka: wins using the “cheapest” shenanigans
Tricky Blanka: wins by using less-than-obvious shenanigans
Crazy Blanka: wins by rolling and sliding all over the place
Ultra Blanka: goes for the ultra whenever it’s available

any more?

ilitrit, you surely don’t play Blanka.

Dirty Blanka is everyone, there is nothing cheap.
Tricky Blanka as you describe it is a basic of competitive gameplay. Everyone has to be less obvious if he wants to win.
Crazy Blanka can win while spamming? Rolling and sliding is easily punishable.
Ultra Blanka no comment.

Yep, it’s a great thing but doesn’t cover much of distance. Compare it to Ken’s Kara :wgrin:

Of course I play him, and you’re missing the point of a fairly harmless question. I hate having to spelling things out, but here goes:

Most players use all strategies available to them, but some of them tend to favour certain strategies over others, or at least put more effort into them. With Blanka, I tried to differentiate between strategies I’ve observed, used, and read about on SRK. With that in mind, if you had to choose, how would you classify your Blanka?

As an example, I love Blanka because of his shenanigans, I love pulling not-so-obvious (for most players) tricks with him as well (like FA-baiting fireballs, slide/hop/jump), but online players usually fall for the “cheapest, dirtiest” tricks (lp.roll -> throw, whiff crossup-ball->elec) so that’s what I spend most of my time doing. In other words, if I had to classify myself, I’d be “Dirty Blanka”.

this isn’t the place for asking simple questions, is it so hard to understand? post vids comment on them or stfu

my new match videos

part 1: Ryu, claw, zangief

part2: chun-li, sagat, abel

part 3: ken , ryu , sagat, ryu

part 4: dictator, sagat, claw

parts 5 and 6 tomorrow

I watched two minutes of one of your videos and couldnt bare to watch any more.
The ryu was sitting there AFK letting you beat him up. Then he throws out a random super.
Your blanka game is very basic.

i noticed it and that annoyed me, thats why i taunted him.
all recorded matches are in order i have not edited out any match(ex cpu matches)

and about my game baing basic im still adapting to my arcade stick.
and every ryu(and a couple of sagats) after this one started to hugging the corners like there is no tomorrow.

EventHubs just started having XBL Online tourneys last month. The competition level isn’t that high, but that works out since it feels everyone’s right around similar levels. I thought I’d post my best match since it’s not my usual random ultra filled scrubbery.

Here’s two of my matches. I wanted to put up vids of me losing, but I’ve been on a streak for the last 2 days. Instead, I will post of vids of matches that I should of lost lol.

Aside from my throw breaking and botched block punishments, what else can I improve on? I really don’t have a clear strategy to get in against these characters. Especially against the Dhalsim, I just bull rushed in and hoped for the best.

I watched the Sagat video: You kept walking back to fullscreen, don’t do that. Sagat owns the match from that distance. You want to hover around the utmost distance that your slide is effective, that should makes him scared to TS. Also, way too many horiballs a good Sagat would punish them all the time. You used c.mkxxball as a punish, I’d suggest learning c.mk>s.lpxxball. Cos then you can use it in your jump in/cross-up combo rather than just using j.hk, sweep.

If it was me I would have been crossing up that Sagat up all day to start Blanka shenanigans with the surprise hop, electricity etc.

Chanure - Thanks for the input! I kept walking back trying to get him to throw tigers so I can ex ball through them. But you are right. Once I am in, I need to stay in as long as possible.

I figure it would be ok to use ball on Sagat cause he cant punish it when he doesn’t have meter. I will be more careful when using it at full screen though.

I use to use the low forward, stand jab, fierce ball combo, but when blocked, I use to get reverse dp’ed between all of those links, so I stopped. Using it as a punish I need to do though.

Thanks again

You should do comments again. That mirror match video with the comments was pretty epic.

In all seriousness…here are a couple of things I noticed.

  1. You’re eating fireballs for lunch. No attempts to FA Absorb/Dash or even an Amazon Slide. If you’re up against a Shoto or anyone throwing projectiles, it’s in your best interest to try and stay within Slide distance. Either you’ll punish them for each one they throw, or you’ll limit their gameplan by making them scare to throw them.

  2. Don’t just sit there spamming electricity HOPING they’re going to jump into it. It’s too easy to get knocked out of if your opponent has distance and they know what they’re doing. If you’re getting away with it in matches, chances are your competition is horrible.

  3. Why so many random rainbow rolls? I see you use them to try and avoid fireballs, at the beginning of a match and what I guess is Anti Air. The only good reason to Rainbow Roll is if it’s a DEFINITE crossup (pay attention to your distancing) or if you want to EX out of a corner. Don’t use it as Anti Air either, use Vert Ball for that or jumping fierce.

  4. Throw whiffing. Work on your tick throw timing and distance. Don’t just spam on throw if you think you’re close enough. Work it into block strings. If you run a few combos and notice they’re blocking, that’s a perfect time to mix it up with a throw.

  5. Combos…where were they? I don’t think I saw a single combo worked in the video at all. You had a few 2 hits that were cancels into electricity, but none of the Bread and Butter stuff.

I’m guessing/hoping that you’re posting these in hopes of getting some feedback/notes and not as a means of showing off or trying to display your Blanka skill. No offense, but you’ve got some work to do.

To be honest, adding the st. LP only adds less than 10 damage to the combo, and it can be fucked up since it’s a link. Really, the only reason st.LP is used in the combo is to give you a little more charge time for the ball if you need it. I guess it adds a little more stun too.

Okay, there I get it now.

I love Blanka because he can kill newbies easily just by jumping around and landing Ultra which they couldn’t block.

I also get to bait fireballs by random standing/crouching lp.
Also love lp.roll throw or combo into f+KKK into throw.
There I love ball after throw, after c.HK and after some things which put them grounded. The ball goes as crossup so they need to block the other way, so I combine it and they get confused many times.
And I love that no-one presses on me like hell with any fireballs, not even Sagats, I just River Run under them if possible but that’s a matter of good spacing.

If I had to divide Blankas, I would say that there are:

  1. Very defensive Blankas
  2. Rush-down Blankas
… and both have their newbie habits etc.

correct, i do need more work and i will make more comments on my videos.

hey Mullah, you should show us how you mash out that HP electricity all the time. i am struggling with it.

Kruldar has a good vid on this already, specifically from request no less.

I love the use of FA, I need to work on that more and try and incorporate it more into my game. Good shit man.
