When playing against random(and maybe even good) shotos, I think I take around 50% of their lifebar with c.mp.

seems a lot of people who posts vids in here just do random stuff with blanka regardless of what their opponents are doing. i should put up a vid of me playing xbl for an hour and show you the difference. blanka is a really methodical and controlled character but watching these vids you’d think he’s a character that does well when played like a lunatic.
why does the guy above jump in randomly, why is his combo of choice j.hp >elec. why doesn’t he block, my mash on lk when it doesn’t chain? etc etc

The Mullah’s point could probably have been stated a little bit more tactfully, but he is still regarded as one of the better Blanka players. From his comments on strategy on this forum and others and from watching other videos of him, I think this is generally probably true.
1st Video - So he missed a follow up to a focus attack? In the Daigo vs. Ed Ma matchup at evo, Daigo also missed a follow up to a focus attack. So what? It happens ? even sometimes to players with amazing reactions and execution.
3rd Video - He was going for the ambiguous crossup ultra. This is a pretty well known trick. Sometimes it works (when they guess wrong), sometimes it doesn’t, and when it doesn’t, it can cost you the round. Was it a bad idea to use, maybe, but the Sagat matchup is not great for Blanka and he’d already lost the first round. There was I think a Mizoteru (Blanka) vs. Mago (Sagat) video posted earlier that showed the same “random” ultra…
As for some people playing Blanka super randomly and posting videos, there has been some of that. Some people have also posted videos asking for comments, admitting they might not be the best. Maybe there should be a video thread for people asking for comments and a video thread for people to post matches that they believe are examples of model Blanka play from well-known players.

Though it is probably here buried somewhere in the thread, for anyone looking to get better with Blanka, there is no better videos for learning than the set between shizouka saikyo vs fax gimoto. You can find the videos here: [media=youtube]9Q-uwFLgZNU[/media]
That set of videos probably influenced me more than any other videos I have seen. It was the first display of walking electricity I had seen. There are also other moves such as double knee press -> jab -> fp elec, mind games, etc.
At the time, Saikyo was the only Grandmaster Blanka, and Fax was right behind with an amazing 89% win rate! These are way back from Dec 2008. I wish another set between these guys would go up. Fax is now the #1 Blanka in Japan (in terms of BP), but Saikyo is still my favorite because he is so badass at walking electricity.
I can’t wait to see the new Fax vids where he beats Mago and others. I consider Saikyo the best offensive Blanka, and Mizoteru the best defensive Blanka. Perhaps Fax has found that perfect medium?

Did you miss round 1 of vid 3 when he crushed Ryu with zoning, footsies and normals? That’s what Mullah’s been emphasizing. I’ve seen how effective using just normals and good zoning does to your game and your overall performance. I didn’t do so well with my risk-taking in my last tournament because I relied too heavily on supers and not enough on my zoning and footsies. Plenty of missed opportunities and regret at the end.

1st vid: i don’t mind losing to eric’s abel , he’s a solid arcade rat from London, if you want to criticise my play you could have picked a better vid. What you should focus on is how i escape abel mixups by using the backdash which is one of the most importent elements of the matchup. I didn’t know how to zone abel back then and its plain to see i’m not comfortable at roll and wheel range. It takes time to learn bad matchups, there’s a reason its a 7-3 according to fax and shizouka saiko. Bad execution? thats just tourney nerves, what do you know about that? 
2nd vid: the large lcd monitor for the finals was lagged, i got a written apology from the tournament organiser the following day since it was so bad. Not that i needed it, since the guy who beat me is a friend, but the organisers knew the matches were a blowout. i actually play pretty well by just using mp and hp and counterhitting his pokes and clean anti airing. but towards the end you see i’m unable to time wakeup back dashes, wakeup ex up balls come out as jumping lk’s and i can’t stop simple jump ins as i get pissed off. That’s more a fault in my tournament composure than my gameplay, but you wouldn’t know anything about that either.
3rd: lol, zak is europes finest sagat who goes toe to toe with ryan heart, who beat calipower 50-47 and daigo 2-1 at evo this year, no shame losing this 7-3 match either. i actually play quite well on the ground, but catch TU fadc ultra out of nowhere, i assumed my backdash inv would cover me, as i was looking to make a TU whiff. that vid was 4 weeks fter the game was released, so i’m pretty happy with that performance. Someone else covered the crossup ultra you thought would be clever to pick up on!
