Blanka ULTRA SSF4 Changes

I really think the cr.mk not having extra frames advantage on counter hits is a glitch/bug, i mean : it’s a mechanic gameplay, it’s impossible that is a specific nerf for Blanka.

And the game is full a bugs like this, so send something to Combofiend, a mail or something please.

C.mk bug is pretty horrible, blanka already lacks a counter hit game and this was more or less his main counter hit tool now he’s pretty much only left with s.mp and cl.mp for counter hit which both moves are significantly harder to use for counter hit because s.mp hit box is pretty damn high so many moves will go under it and cl.mp means you gotta be within close range and getting lots of frame advantage and being close range at. the same time is quite difficult.

I hope everyone here at least sends a tweet or posts in the bug reporting place (is there even one?) blanka user base is already minuscule compared to other characters and we need to be more vocal

I think this is not a bug. It looks intentional so the counterhit link to Ultra isn’t too easy.

Seems like bad logic though. It punishes a Blanka player who scores a CH c.mk and does not have ultra stocked (cannot link sweep because c.mk is +5 on hit and sweep is 6 frame startup right?).

plus if it’s intentional and they hid it, they are scummy as hell

c.MK losing counterhit frame advantage is a 50/50 mixup between Capcom being incompetent and making bad design decisions. It could be either honestly!

Blanka is getting back the plus frames on cr mk CH. :slight_smile:

So I’ve picked Blanka up as a counter against my Bison’s bad match ups and I’m actually enjoying the character a lot in USFIV. The knockdown ball, the better frame advantage on cr.mk but most importantly the up ball red FADC. With 3 meters you can actually pull off very good damage combos from a cross up up ball when previously that wasn’t possible.

Did they just nerf Blanka?

Okay, they reduced it’s startup to 4 frames and they reduced it’s pushback. But we already have a move like that. It’s called cr.LK.

It seems super odd, about zero reason to use cr.lk now.

Hoping the reduced push back means more cr.mk x 3 on opponents now.

No you can’t! The frame advantage on hit has been reversed to pre-Ultra, so no more cr.MK > cr.MK link unless on counter-hit.

It’s +4 on hit and the move now has 4 frames startup. cr.mk into cr.mk is a one frame link.

I don’t know why they didn’t just keep it +5 and reduce the pushback.

u1 link back to 1f, but cr.mk x3 should be consistent now, and also cr.mk cr.mk st.lp and cr.mk cr.mk u1 should work on a few characters.

overall he’s probably better but it kind of makes cr.lk pretty bad.

As much as I would love it I understand why it’s only +4 now. Imagine hop cross up c.lk c.mk ultra, it’s just too strong. Or crouch tech on opponents wakeup hit confirm ultra, the possibilities would be endless and would make Blanka too strong. However I hope the pushback allows c.mk x3 x HP ball or even cross up mk > c.mk x2 HP ball. If that’s the case this is a huge buff.

edit: Also I wonder if the pushback will allow for a decent CH c.mk > sweep option.

everything you mentioned is still possible it’s just a 1f link instead of a 2f link for ultra

better characters have easier ways to combo into ultra that do comparable damage, why would it be “too strong” for it to be a 2f link instead of a 1f link?

Because linking 1 frame ultra makes it incredibly hard because you can either nail the 1 frame link hitting all the buttons or you can double tap 3p. I’m definitely going to spend a few hours trying to get it down but honestly I don’t see myself being able to do it with confidence during a match. Blanka already has ways to combo into ultra with red focus but being able to hit confirm it consistently with no meter is just too strong especially with how many situations it would work with. Yes there are other characters that can combo into ultra with no meter like ibuki but the hit confirm is long with a lot of scaling and the spacing is tight. If they didn’t change it to +4 blanka’s would be using that combo at least once per match, maybe once every other match due to the huge amount of situations it would work in for absolutely no meter.

The push back is sick. You can hit confirm to cr.mk from cr.lk too which is sweet for people you can safe meaty etc. May as well tech with cr.mk now. 70 damage crouch tech is pretty sweet.

The pushback seems better than before. J.rh, St.mp, cr.mk, cr mk xx HP ball works on ryu

A deep j.hk can combo into 3x c.mk xx HP ball on ryu and crossup j.mk 2x c.mk xx HP ball also works but the charge timing is tight, not as tight as guiles UDK > c.mp xx flash kick but its not easy. c.mk x2 > s.lp xx HP ball doesn’t work on ryu but it works on abel and i’m assuming other big characters. The distance on counter hit c.mk > sweep isn’t amazing but it’s not bad either, basically it doesn’t work from max c.mk range but a bit closer and it works. meaty s.mk > c.mk > s.lp xx HP ball works but the timing is really tight, you need to hit the last frames of the last second kick but on counter hit it’s pretty easy.

That’s all I’ve got so far. Also i’m definitely going to try crouch teching with c.mk that sounds awesome.
