Blanka Master Guide: Match-ups, Combos, Option Selects and More

I think it really depends…

if there’s too many small videos that’s kinda a bit annoying… but if the videos are wayyy too long like 30 mins… that isn’t practical either…

i think the best is to break it down in sessions… cover a point with several sub points that that shows multiple examples

I think it would be cool if you did separate vids for the different aspects.

eg. One for normals, one for the specials, one for combos, one for set-play etc.

Info slides + gameplay with text overlay work well.

Yeah it was going to be seperate vids. First vid is going to be on movement. Talking about walk speed, dash, hop, kara hop, jump, balls for movement, etc.

I’d like to see matchup vids, esp bad matchup vids

example, you play a good abel player and you both talk about how you are limited and what you are doing, or…you play the CPU and win only by using moves that are advantageous for blanka in the MU(ie poking only)

lol, cpu vids are useless.

If I do character vids I’ll just training mode all of the scenarios that are especially important.

figured as much, just an idea if you didnt have one to play against…but yea that sounds good, just trying to cut to the good stuff, most of us know the basics like aa and good pokes etc.

well aa is universal for the most part, I’m using a lot more st.fierce now though. It does way too much damage on counterhit.

Yea its very helpful once you get the timing, plus you always win trades for dmg. only trades with the best jump ins too, beats most out. I like that move almost as much as I like Guile’s SHP which is gdlk.

I want to move away from 4k pp and try to get more in more depth to blanka since I never get tired of playing him after 3 years… I must read the post carefully and pay more attention to this information. Thank you for your work veserius

I know how much work you must put to make a proper video so much work for no reward that often you may think it’s not worth it. I will love to see a video version of your guide and I offer my thanks as a moral support if it means something. I will watch it frame by frame

Hi,

I’ve noticed TSRAI does something odd, he does LP elec alot, in this replay you see him dash forward then cancel straight into lp elec. instead of going for lp -> hp elec.

Why is he doing this?

Also, What is buffering electivity, when can you do it and what is it good for?

Thanks.

LP elec has much faster startup.

Edit - this should go in the Q&A section.

lp elec does not have faster startup than st.jab.

the point of doing dash electricity is that it is mildly hard to react to and will outhitbox a lot of the normal responses to it like st.jab if they aren’t done during the dash.

Read the third example of buffering here.

Misread, thought he meant HP elec

Ves - What are you thoughts on the 2012 changes where Blanka can only FADC off EX ball? Why not just save up for super? I feel if you could HP ball -> FADC that would be very useful for dealing enough damage.

Well it will be situationally useful, but just having the option is nice. If I only have 3 bars. I will already fadc electricity to get a safejump, getting a hard knockdown or more damage is nice.

Yeah, I figured it gives you one bar to EX vertial roll, or EX backstep and then give some breather then still have the option to do good damage with just 3 bars.

-edit-
Also mate, how should I be using crouch tech, I know what happens in these situations:

a) opponent not blocking … lk hits
b) opponent throwing … throw tech

but if he’s blocking do i end up throwing?

I’m plinking cr.lk so the inputs look like cr.lk, cr.lk + cr.mp

you can NOT plink cr.lk with cr.mp, only with cr.lp

if he is blocking you end up doing a cr.LK on block, because you can NOT throw while crouching

some stuff in here is outdated with the 2012 changes, need to fix the overhead section still, aghhh

I use cr.fp as an anti air more than I should, although I’m trying to break the habit and use s.hp. I already use c.mp in most situations.

I lost to an ibuki a bunch last night. I felt that i’m losing because of matchup knowledge. Any ideas on approach? It kinda feels hard to zone her out because she’s so fast but i think i’m just doing something wrong.
