Blanka Labwork Thread

But then how did you know it was a perfect meaty in the first place? By being able to link into sweep?

yes

my confirmation was when I was able to do whiff jump attack setup which is an auto setup with no manual dexterity required and get the same result. And a whiff jump attack ends up being 42 frames where you can’t do anything.

Blanka has a couple of crossup setups that leave him out of the corner even if the crossup connects in the corner.

Just a heads up, I’ll be posting some info probably later tonight, I’m working on documenting results atm.

Option selects with negative edge coward-crouch super… hrmmm? Super is muck though, negative-edge super only gives one 100dmg hit before flying off. Unless it’s five cheap chip hits. If it juggled you could get some nice corner resets. You can one-hit super into U2 in the corner yeah? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=mzY5AKDPGoM#t=111s Hehe.

Too slow, cc isn’t cancelable till frame 55. If you os cc you can confirm what move you want out of it, but I’ve found pretty much 0 utlity for os cc, and even if it works hop always works better from what I’ve seen.

Also i hate that vid cause it uses a bunch of my setups and is bad production quality.

Looks like Blanka is losing some things off back throw.

first active frame slide knocks down for 44 frames, last active frame slide knocks down for 59 frames.

Empty jump into cr short would be a perfect meaty if you know you’re gonna hit on the first active, and still beats wake-up-random-button if you hit on the second or third.

Meaty cr.shorts are my favourite things.

Might never be chainable, but bless that third active frame. wtb balrog jab recovery haha.

Here’s something to play around with:

Turns out that after a level 2 focus crumple in the corner, Blanka can land a x-up j.hk against some chars which leaves him with interesting reset possibilities. The funny thing is that some of these chars you can’t land x-up j.hk after level 3 in the corner, or it’s 10x harder (haven’t done it yet). x-up j.mk after level 3 works, but doesn’t work after level 2. After resetting with j.hk you can do meaty OH (2nd hit), but I don’t think there’s enough charge time for U1, so you can link into cr.mk xx ball or whatever. Or you can delay it slightly to get both hits and then link into U1. You can also do the usual position swap tricks (crouching to let the opponent to flip over you), but there’s more like backdashing immediately into the corner when you land, but then ending up in front. Backdashing and then holding down leaves you in the corner.

Thing is with setups like these is that it’s all very char dependent. Like vs some chars you can’t do level 2 x-up j.hk but you can do level 3 x-up j.mk for a similar effect. Then there are chars who can get hit by level 2 x-up j.hk, but backdashing will always leave you in the corner, so you need a different method of switching position.

I’ve tested with Ryu, Ken, Honda and Ibuki so far. Ryu and Ken work the same but Ibuki and Honda are different. Test in training mode to see the differences.

Do either Blankas cl.lk or cl.mk act like Roses cl.mk to blow up techs?

They aren’t airborne so a stand tech will throw you, but you can dodge some cr.techs because of the hitboxes.

Oi, you still playin? Using who now?

How you doing man! Long time

Hey Mullah. on and off really…when time permits…i think you know how it is.

I am burnt out on Honda so he is mainly for nostalgia or to put people in their place when they get a bit cocky against other characters i use. Tried Dee Jay and although he is tough to mix up from cross ups and stuff his ability to beat grounded pressure is week with no get off me move and he his damage is not hi enough either to really count vs the best characters in good hands. Also tried T Hawk. taught me lots about my game and i thibk improved my defence. Also helped me understand more about footsies and opportunities to throw and mind fuck people. some of his match ups are plain horrible though…green and orange looking characters specifically.

Figured i will give Blanka a try. Honda stuff will be a solid basis and the stuff i learnt from Hawk i think translates ok in principle around his throw and mix up game. I think Blanka looks pretty solid tbh and different enough from my main stay for me to learn something else.

What about you? I heard you had gouken on the side, but were not really active in a playing sense.

Vers - thanks for the quick info.

I got burgled so I completely a stopped playing a few months ago since I have no Xbox. Looking to remedy that soon tho. Yeah I went cold on blanka and learnt gouken, was pretty good with him I reckon. I certainly did better vs alione with gouken than blanka strangely, although I only played him once during super. Wish this game was a 2v2 cvs2 style format, I think it would be more fun.

Am busy trying to level up my real life atm, got a sprog on the way and a drive to open a small business to keep me busy…and to give 1 finger to corporate machine I was stuck in for 6 years. I’m active on srk tho, even though I don’t play anymore. mentally I’m probably a better player than before, I didn’t know much about the game back in the day.

People here will help you out with random questions, blanka forum knows their shit.

Hopefully I’ll see you at svb one year as its been too long

What’s the best option off a backthrow on a regular Shoto e.g. Ryu/Ken. I tend to mash-dash -> j.fp/mp… but that is poo. Give me something solid. Sorry to use all y’alls brains like some sorta Japanese Blanka setup vending machine.

I don’t backthrow shotos unless it will corner them.

Safejumps!

I use a lot of ambiguous jump fierce vs. shotos. I like overhead setups vs. Akuma if his stun is working up because he’s really easy to dizzy.

what kind of option selects do you guys do on a meaty wakeup to punish backdash? I’m new to the OS game and i’m working on doing cr. lk, (OS with the slide), cr. lk, jab, electricity. I can get that to work but not sure if that is the best option. I’m just starting to get a grasp on all the OS posibilities.

I generally do cr.lk xx elec(os sweep/hop), or j.hk(os slide), st.strong

Just hit the button you think beats the most options. vs. viper thats cr.strong, but vs. characters like Rose I don’t even OS, I just do safe jumpin, late st.strong to blow up backdash/focus backdash and ex soul spiral.

Blanka doesn’t have a lot of practical option selects because he generally needs to break charge to get good meaty setups.

os u2 ground is good vs. sim btw.
