Gonna work on some stuff vs. the twins today, I’ll let you know if I find anything good. Yang will be tougher than yun simply because he has so many more options.
Yun’s wakeup is very complex surprisingly. Between palm, upkicks, his incredible backdash range, he can be tough to crack.
can crouch upkicks:
cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mk, cr.hk, df.hp(don’t do this), electricity
However cr.lk, cr.lp, cr.mk, and cr.hk all have to be done at max range which not only hurts your combo potential it hurts your option select potential.
Electricity has a tendency to trade with hk upkicks if done point blank, but this trade is very much in your favor 70 damage for yun vs. 120-150 for Blanka. EX upkicks destroys electricity at point blank, so be careful. The drawback to electricity overall is that it can be backdashed, and you can’t os if he does that.
Normal breakdown:
cr.lk - must be done at absolute max range, loses to hk upkicks, ex/lk whiff, mk is stuffed. The interesting thing here is that if you can condition your opponent to not hk upkick on wakeup you can do some stuff here with this. all palms pass through, but hitting a button will hit him out of them. This would actually be good if Yun couldn’t just walk out of it most of the time.
cr.lp - lk/hk/ex whiff, cannot combo afterwards. cr.lp has very little utility, but it can crouch all versions of upkicks, and induce backdashes. Pushing Yun to the corner is good.
cr.mk - must be done at max range. all upkicks whiff. cannot combo after. You can os slide if Yun backdashes, but the timing for the os feels really really tight.
cr.hk - must be done at max range. all upkicks whiff, but I haven’t figured out the frame situation yet. Palm blows you up badly, he can reversal ex palm and do several hundred damage to you.
I noticed yang’s palm is harder to slide than yun’s. not 100% sure why though.
Their palms aren’t the same move at all that is why.
How are they different? You can slide under yuns but not yangs? Maybe the HB on yuns is higher and yangs lower?
Hitbox, frame data, effect when hit, frame advantage on block, damage.
They aren’t the same move. Not to mention yang has 2 normal palms to yun’s 1.
The hitbox of yang’s palm vs. yun’s was what I was directing my comment towards. Yun’s palm has a more relaxed distance requirement for sliding than yang’s. You can have a dummy record yun and yang’s palm and try to slide it on reaction. Yun’s can be slided from at least the distance that both characters start the match, but yang’s requires you to step back roughly a square, otherwise you eat his palm.
The hitboxes of the projectile seem to shrink over time as well. it seems that it is easier to slide yang’s palm later in the animation. or just aim for the recovery.
The projectile simply seems to go to his feet while Yun’s stops higher.
hmm when new frame data came out I had mistakenly thought that the listed frame advantage for slide on block was same, but in fact it is the same, so you can still be up to +3
The hitbox change to slide has really killed a lot of safeslide applications though as certain reversals that would formally whiff over the low slide hitbox no longer do so(deejay sobats now hit recovery instead of whiffing)
However, sweep, hop, slide is now a frame perfect meaty slide. Don’t know exactly what it beats yet. It beats Balrog normal headbutts at least(ex’s no longer whiff, and it always lost to ex headbutt).
have you guys been able to land cross up ultra 1 on the twins?? i been working those twins left and right and all of them keep mashing uppercut on wake up so more BP n PP for me!!!
yeah, they can’t escape u1.
Yang can teleport, but it auto corrects the wrong way and you can punish it by just not holding the ultra.
anyways kara throw testing right now. Blanka has 5-6 strings that lead to kara throw on block/hit.
Biggest issue right now is that not only are strings character specific, crossup/not crossup specific, meaty/not meaty specific, but at times when you hit the button on a jumpin, or if your opponent transitions to stand/crouch block at the wrong time the kara throw can whiff.
so for now I’m just going to find the characters that stuff is easy on because those will be the characters you want to kara throw in the first place.
short short kara throw in the mirror is disgusting.
Seems like Blanka’s j.mp can be used to safe-jump all Ryu’s DPs but it’s not really useful.
After b.throw, j.mp is the only jumping attack with enough range to land a meaty jump in without moving forward. If you time it right, you can safe jump lp DP, but mp DP still has enough range to hit you before you land. Now if you walk maybe 1 frame backwards after the b.throw, you can land a meaty and you’ll be able to block all Ryu’s DPs in time. The problem is that if Ryu jumps or crouches on wakeup the j.mp whiffs. Kinda sucks, but the timing to safejump mp DP is stupidly hard anyway. In any case, once you learn the timing b.throw, j.mp is a pretty decent setup to beat 4f reversals, especially if you mix it up with empty jump into a low attack.
edit: Just realized I forgot to test against Ken, but I don’t really expect much of a difference in the results cos his HP DP has good range and also comes out in 3f.
after u1/lp super, you can get a 50/50 against a lot of characters midscreen doing b.hop, then either f.hop or kara f.hop, then a j.mk or hp/hk. f.hop doesn’t crossup against a lot of characters, but kara hop does.
This isn’t frame perfect so you have to delay the jump or one of the hops a tiny bit, but it gives you perfect positioning.
how do u pull of kara hop again?
cant remember
cr.hk ~ mk+lk
kara hop ?? What is that ? Lol.
thx, ves!
actually pretty easy to do!
you kara cancel cr.hk into a hop. the sweeps sort of sliding forward animation causes you to hop farther.
inputs are in my previous post.
We can kara cancel normal into a hop ? I never knew that, thanks, awesome.
Testing b.throw setups:
b.throw, dash j.HP vs Gouken = unblockable
The interesting thing is that Blanka will always land on the far side if Gouken tries to block, and in front if Gouken does nothing or does a just-frame block.
[edit] Will post more info in follow-up post
