People keep banging on about tournaments. They mean nothing to your average level player. Saying that Blanka has trouble in tournaments has no bearing a discussion like this.
Blanka is hated because a decent skill (or lower) player simply hasn’t got the ability to beat a decent Blanka. And again, people banging on about some dashing ultra combos like Abel’s are forgetting one simple thing…that’s 1 move that you can use once a round (maybe twice, but never for more than 50% damage total).
I’ve played some great Blankas where that is the only hit I get in the entire fight at full revenge gauge and sure I’ll do 50% damage, but then I’ll die from a LP.
Should players avoid you? Yes, why not? Who cares that someone has chosen not to be matched up with you in the future? It’s their choice.
Honestly my strategy against Blanka is to put the controller down, it’s best for my mind and everything, yes I bumped this thread I thought it was a good thread.
My strategy is to wait untill they do a blanka ball and then punish it with ultra/super/normal
Beating blanka comes with time, you cant keep up with his shenanigans if youre just starting out. But when you can, the match will get alot easier because it’s all Blanka has.
I still believe,that the style you just described is the only way he (Blanka) can compete at a tournement level.
Most Blanka hate seems to stem from online lag,and people not knowing the match.
In tourneys,the ball,and elecricity pressure arent viable enough tactics for the character to beat the usual suspects.
Iv seen vids of Mizoteru using nothing but down back,focus attacks,and pokes.
I recall seeing a video of The Realyst,fighting against Damdai’s Ken, and the turtling drove Damdai bonkers. (May,be a bad example,as i think Damdai won in the end,but-i loved the turtle blanka style in that match from Realyst)
Blanka only has so many tricks.

Every piece of Blanka hate mail I’ve received has been hilarious. About a month ago, I decided to pick him up as a main guy. Before that, I was using Dan.
So whenever I get hate mail (most notably from Akuma users, weird), I offer a rematch. So when I beat them again with Dan, I win even more. And it’s satisfying.
I see Blanka hate a lot within my large group of people I play, mostly because it’s Blanka and he is fighting games resident troll. They don’t hate his move list much per se, but mostly him aesthetically and how he can be annoying in a match.
I hardly ever Blanka ball, bad habit to get into, I only do it if I KNOW it’s going to be safe, or if I am ahead on life by a respectable margin and just want to chip them up or test the waters, so to speak.
I’m finding that now I’m on the higher half of ranked where I’m playing a lot of 4k~ PP players, I’m getting counterpicked more if I play the same person twice in a small time frame.
They’ll go straight to Boxer, who I can generally beat, but I can’t throw EX rushes online consistently or jab xx elec them, so I end up being more vulnerable.
unless you’re playing your friend on endless match with only two players and both are 4 bar connections i find anything on rank match sucks ass
your strategy or opponent strategy doesn’t really work in online.
In online against someone random I generally never get to use anything other than ex up ball as anti air… or LK up ball (if lucky) … my normals that’s usually used as anti-air are completely useless… unless i’m playing offline… simply because i react way too late for it to register due to the lag.
also counter picking in online happens way too often…

Lol i won’t lie i hate on blanka, but thats only because my buddy plays a hell of a good blanka and really makes me work for my wins against him. Avoiding someone cuz of a char they play is retarded but i believe it. I’ve been avoided for play style before, i main Rog so I like to switch between rushdown offense and all out defense on the fly. And theres nothing people hate more than someone that can turtle right lol.

I havnt played online for about 4 months,and the thought of returning to playing ssf4 online fills me with dread.
The only problem is,the group of friends i play offline with only use a few characters-So my matchup experience is hell weak.
The game offline is day compared to online’s night.
I know jack shit about matches against Hakan,Cody,Juri ect- Because iv never freakin played any. lol.
there’s nothing wrong about blanka as a character. hes a balanced mid tier character who has tools, but nothing overpowered
imo, there is blanka hate because the character totally changes if you play one online with lag. a lot of counters to blanka’s gimmicks require reactions, which are ridiculously hard with lag. i can’t think of any other character that does better in laggy games. maybe honda (or balrog? i guess he can just mash lp)
seriously, play just 1 or 2 blankas with a crappy connection, and you will hate blanka balls for life.
lag affects ALL characters.
Blanka is no different.
Why dont YOU play as Blanka for an hour or so ONLINE with a crappy connection?
