Blanka General Chat

Just FYI, Julia’s Super is listed wrong in many guides - it’s actually 2f start-up.

standing mp and cr. mk are his best normals by far.

Oh thanks for the info. So i guess his close LP is -2 on block lol.

Man, I just waste too much meter with Blanka. I’m so used to his SF4 counterpart :frowning:

You know what hurts Blanka the most, that the stages are so large.
Blanka is still quite awesome when you’re able to get in. But his tricks just aren’t as good as in SF4 due to the big stages, reduces grab distance, alpha counters and Blanka’s slower horizontal ball.

If you want to use Blanka, use his air-game, ex-upball and lightening pressure.

Been playing around with this character a bit.

I should have some setups and stuff to post in a couple of days most likely.

Elec pressure sucks because of the alpha counter and terrible range.

How would you play Blanka?

To be honest, i have no idea how Blanka should be played in this game, he’s not as good as his SFIV’s version to be a defensive/footsies character and i have not played much that game, and i really think he’s bad in this game.

For me he still works as an overwhelming rushdown character

Why ? He has nothing to rushdown, no command grab/dive kick and his only special move safe on block is terrible in this game and has nothing scary.

He’s still a defensive/footsies character as in SFIV and makes all of his offensive on knockdowns resulting from slide/throws/sweep etc… and in this game, throws are worse.

But on this game, his anti airs are worse, his elec is worse, his balls are better because all are safe on hit but the ex hori ball is so slow…

It’s like Blanka has not his place and has nothing to do in this game for me, just doesn’t fit here.

Poor Blanka :frowning:

There’s absolutely no interest in him.
I’m learning how to use him within this game, but he still has quite a hard time.

They way how I use Blanka:

His air-to-air game is f’n amazing. He even sometimes wins against mishima j.hk’s and on counter hit it grants you a groundbounce into cr.mk, cr.mk, upball or super. His cross-up is decent and his j.hk works great against a lot of anti-airs.

He has decent pokes in his cr. and standing mp’s

His hopcancel still works so good in this game where people just haven’t adjusted to Blanka. Make them guess what you’re gonna do next.

His biggest weakpoint is his lack in anti-airs without meter. He only has neutral jump HP that actually reliable. His lk. upball doesn’t seem to work anymore as it did in SF4 and electricity has a smaller hitbox and takes forever to activate.

But what makes him a great character for me is that I can perform a fast and unpredictable rushdown with his hops, cross-ups and pretty fast light normals.
But I can also play a good keep-a-way game with his speed, his slide and all around great mobility. So I can control the pace of the round.

Put a big damage dealer like Jack-x or Gief in his team and Blanka actually works within this game. He’s a pretty crappy character if you compare him to the rest of the cast, but he’s not clearly D-ranked as most people place him. I’d give him a C- of even a C thanks to his amazing all around speed.

Can anybody help me with Blanka’s trial 13? I have the general Electricity method down, but I can’t get it to come out fast enough after the Cr.Lp. How much practice does it take to get it right?

mash lp harder, faster and earlier :stuck_out_tongue:
Or if it;s the one with ex-lightening, mash lp and mp harder, faster and earlier.

I thought his trials were quite easy.

I need to learn how to mash faster, as I can’t! :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re a Blanka main, it would be easy.

Combo´s I find more difficult are combo´s from his HK midscreen

Like J.hk, hk, lp XXX hop, cr. mk into whatever.
The timing is so weird on that juggle opportunity

So the more I play other fighting games the more I realize my playing style is as a reactive zoner/counter player, and I think that Blanka with his balls and electricity is the premier of that style in sfxt. Is that a strong assumption? That being said I suck at this game so I am turned off by all the talk of him being terrible even for Blanka mains in other games and especially his hard unrewarding links.

Can I find a degree of success as a turtle Blanka in sfxt or will I need to learn all his crazy things to break even? Note that I am a D+ on a losing streak heading for zero so I am not exactly thinking Evo terms.

The short answer is…somewhat

The thing with Blanka is that while he does have kind of a “turtle/zoner” style, it’s different than the traditional way you would think of a zoner. From my time with him, you have to be a lot more focused on his movement than anything. He doesn’t necessarily take up effective points on screen as other characters do. His AA normals are terrible, and in order to AA with normal up ball you have to be sitting still, which I don’t think works well for Blanka. You have to be constantly moving, putting your opponent in a new position every time. Everything he has from far away is pretty risky, and with the super buff to AAs in 2013 he’s going to have a harder time getting a jump in. I think the most effective way to use Blanka is keep people on their toes with movement (ie jump back HK, hops, lots of walking and dashes) in order to be in a position to pressure with electricity, because electricity pressure is awesome.

From what you’ve said about your play style I think you’d feel pretty comfortable with Raven. I’ve been trying to learn him and he’s all about careful space control and wearing the opponent down so they land in a danger zone.

You have wise words as always Swoops. I picked up Raven last week and really enjoy him. Shuriken is an incredible projectile to control my fellow D players and even though he is losing jump back shuriken dash back seems solid enough and the buffing of his normals should make him easier all around.
Unlike Blanka he also seems to, once he has controlled the opponent, damaging and above all easy to pull off combos and mixups. Now if only I didn’t get super every time I tried his reverse DP teleport. He’s essentially the closest I can get in this game to my Persona 4 main.
