Bison's Q&A Thread: Ask here before making new threads!

When ryu/ken whiffs his spiny kick is there a safe way to punish or will I just eat a DP? Every time one whiffs I want to slide at him so badly but I know the recovery on those things is gdlk. Also anyone down for some mirror matches so I can see how a real bipson does things? I’m sure I’ll get destroyed but that seems to be the best way to learn.

Sup. This be my first post here lol. I wonder if any1 here knows me… im a well known pokemon player/ kinda well known smash player… i wrote a guide on jigglypuff on swf ect… anyways I would like to apologize if these seem like a bad questions (maybe it’s not…?) but I literally just got SSF4 today and I got my 360 a month ago.

Online questions:

I have some question concerning online play and Bison?

  1. Is there input lag in matches? ( I use to play Brawl wifi, it was god awful to the point where it wasn’t playable or characters were almost totally different compared to their offline counterparts which leads me to the next question…)

  2. Is online Bison different than offline? If so how much, and what is different (nerfs/buffs/ect.)

Answers to these are important because i am a very sensitive player… in Brawl i could get 3 stocked by a scrub in a poor connection but offline do well against legit players. Nintendo wifi is garb and free (and i only do offline now), so i would assume xboxlive which costs money would be a *little more *competent. If there are huge differences ill just do offline like i do with brawl.

and here is my “stupid” question

SF4 Bison = SSF4 Bison? I’ve seen vids of both, they look the same… but I wanted to confirm this. Thanks for reading.

I play Bison but, all of a sudden it seems like so does everyone else.

Problem is I’m TERRIBLE at the Bison mirror. They play really aggresively and jump all over me and I can’t get them off. The match-up thread only had a few quick tips. Any more specific information?

Or is there a character that plays against him well so I can learn them in order to counter-pick when a mirror would usually ensue?

You can try Guile. He can actually camp Bison, and a lot of his moves beat out Bisons. I also forgot to include this question… what is the MU ratio exactly for Bison:Guile?

Mirrors are generally universally tricky in the fact the opponent has the exact same shenanigan potential that you do. In the mirror I first try and find out what kind of opponent I am facing, alternating between rtsd and defense/reaction punishing. From there I am usually able to get a fair idea of how I am to play the specific person. As always st.mk and st.hk is among your best tools.

As for the suggestion to auto counterpick with Guile, would not suggest it unless you really know how to use him. Most of us have had enough Guile experience thanks to Diago dick riders to be able to handle beginner to moderate level Guile’s. You try that and not really know him well and most of us would likely rip you apart.

I love it when someone counter picks guile and doesn’t know the matchup, it’s soooooo free.

I been doing quite well online with Bison as of late. I have found quite useful things with his warp such as warp back as they jump towards you or spam fireball. Guiles haven’t been a problem neither

oooh so you’re saying your Bison’s all like this when Guile fails?

rofl couldn’t resist. ****, I should get an infraction for lack of originality. I bet that vid or the original version was posted over 9000s times. Gah! Enough memes! ><

But seriously can someone please answer my questions about how online play is and if it changes Bison’s gameplay at all? Because if it does ill just do offline. I don’t want wifi to hurt my real performance.

I believe the input lag is entirely dependent on your connection to your opponent. As opposed to GGPO, which sets an automatic 1-2 frame input lag, as part of its netcode design.

The game is generally different online than offline, but this is true of any game that is timing sensitive (fighting games, rhythm games, computer fps games). Your connection may show 5 green bars, but if your ping to the other player is more than 60ms, you’re already at 3-4 frames of input lag, which is where most decent players start to feel the effects.

Bison himself isn’t affected that much by the lag, but other characters play differently, and that in turn changes how you play. Maybe you’ll miss some of your links, but more importantly, you may find that you are unable to punish things that you normally could offline.

I subscribe to the idea that Xbox live is better because most people are forced to use wired connections in their house, but that may go away because the new slim xbox has built in wifi. Never use wifi for gaming.

They are mostly the same. Psycho crusher is better now, and some people swear his normals have changed, but the big changes are his new ultra and the damage normalization made in this game. Bison did terrible damage in SF4, but now his damage output isn’t so bad compared to the majority of the other characters.

^ thanks a lot. I might give it a shot just to get a feel of him… but I won’t take it too seriously and will eventually convert to 100% offline, like i did with Brawl.

is there a way to throw meaty grabs on someones reset or knockdown that shortens the amount of frames they have to tech?

The window to tech is always after the active frames of the throw, so there is no way to make that shorter. It would prevent someone from stand teching and getting the additional frames before your throw to counter throw you, but that’s about it.

If you don’t have an EX bar, what’s the best way to get out of a jam? Teleport? If so which direction?

how come i own everyone pretty much just head stomping and maybe some Mk and tosses but any other chr i try playing i get owned hehe

Generally it’ll serve you better to learn how to block, tech, and be patient.

But if you really need to escape, you can teleport or backdash. Almost always you should teleport backwards using the kick buttons, but there are situational uses for teleporting forward.

Because you’re fighting terrible opponents who don’t know how to nj.FP?

Whats good with getting counter hits with CR. FP? I get them a lot (by accident) and I was wondering if its a coincidence or if theres something behind it.

what winning quote number is the one when Bison says something along the lines of “I will spare you if you pledge loyality to my organization” im too lazy to figure it out >.>

Backwards IMO. But it depends on what is going on in the match. Crossup attempt or far back jump in teleport backwards help me, fireball spam either or because if they throw a fireball you could teleport backwards twice before you get hit if they don’t move forward as they toss it. Or if they still still as many Ryu players do teleport forward with the punch you usually land behind them and you can toss them. Most of my match ups online are shotos and Bison has the tools to beat random and even hardcore players. 1 rule is be patient, I never do headstomps cause most ppl jump back and punish. Jumping toward fierce, Jumping toward forward, jumping toward roundhouse, jumping toward strong are some of his best jump ins.

I cant imagine this works on good shotos but you can head stomp all day if you time it as the doken animation comes out, always fun.
