Yeah kim is back, and the tourney was yesterday so I don’t expect the vids to be up so soon. Will keep you posted
Haha what? I’m in Japan still. Gonna enter godsgarden this Saturday
^Heck yea breach the wall of God with you monster Dic Kim! LOL
WTF? Why did you post in the UCI thread you were comin?
I think other people can agree, but I see a lot of potential there. it’s obvious you’re new to Bison, but I can tell from those vids that you’re going to get better really quick. at this point its best to get these things down:
-know what you can punish and how (best punish for now will be cr.mp, cr.mk, or cr.lk cancelled into scissor kicks or the highest strength. you can cancel roundhouse from cr.mp, cr.mk but not cr.lk but you can cancel mk scissors and EX scissors from cr.lk)
-break bad habits now before they cement
-get down some baiting techniques, they’ll be useful for the G2 ‘level’ of play and will develop as you play more and get better and more sophisticated
-get down at least three bnbs. I recommend for now: short short short xx scissor kick, cr.lp, st.lp, cr.lk xx scissors (I recommend this because its airtight on block so unmash-out-able and easy), jump in fierce, close standing fierce xx scissor kick, in that order of importance.
good luck and keep at it
I’m just saying it was obvious the kind of mentality the Sagat slipped into. I knew as soon as I saw the first two random TU’s (first one really showed the shift in “strategy”) that that was pretty much all he was going to do. Empty jump-in into TU is pretty damn random and when he keeps doing TU you have to wonder “is the 20 or so chip damage I get for scissoring when he lands worth the risk?”. Those scissors almost never actually hit.
By bait I mostly mean just play conservatively and block. Don’t go for pointless/routine stuff like scissoring/Hking out of range jumpins after Sagat has just thrown 3 random Tu’s in 10seconds when you weren’y even pressuring him including empty jump TU, TU fadc TU…TUC really didn’t even try to bait at all that match besides the teleport. Start of round 3 Sagat jumps in and TUC goes for SK chip for no reason. He didn’t get TU that time but you have to just block a bit more once someone has gone crazy with reversals…even after you’ve been thrown.
Just look at this other video of TUC here . The end of round 2 Rufus does empty jump in into ex messiah kick and he still had two bars. Luckily TUC didn’t do the routine scissor kick that nearly every Bison player would do or else he would’ve been the one getting ultrad.
That is really the stuff you have to watch for when you’re eating a lot of reversals/invincible stuff. Trust me I press buttons all the time. But I also can recognize when someone is in reversal happy mode and I’ll focus more on punishing overall and I find the quicker you catch on and punish someone like that the more likely they’re to stop. But then again I play online so I guess I can recognize the scrub habits/pattern more often.
^ you know whats really annoying? someone that can be strategically ‘random’…it makes you second guess everything…but that’s why a good sagat player is so goddamn scary.
What is really satisfying though is when you do successfully bait…TIGAH UPPAHCHUT! the whiff just looks so silly when he calls out the name of his move like that lol.
Ah cool, good luck and please don’t get peaced out by a rufus or guile:)
Ahah, this thread is so much work. I’m going to run out of space soon xD

Random thought: SSF4 should have the arcade-style block sound.
Brilliant play ahah. Never seen Bison pressure a Gief so hard before, to the point where Dic’s the one chasing Gief to the corner!
Damn fucking marn got me at winterbrawl he really did dive kick my shit to hell he was doing it at angles that i could not retaliate from anybody got any answers for that? anyway hopefully when the vids get posted i could get some tips!
Did you try to interrupt the dive kicks with standing short or jabs? Cuz frame data says it is 11f to start. At best if hes doing insta dive kicks off the ground it’s supposed to be interruptible.
Yeah man, he baited and punished those whiffed grabs hard. Like tony said, s.short is a good option. s.short xx back teleport should be pretty good to create distance and dampen that pressure. Otherwise really, the best you can do is hold down-back, limiting his options to grab, cross-up dive kick and overhead. The latter is the least of your worries as he can’t combo it into anything, but if he pulls it out, its probably to bait you into blocking high, which will get you punished hard, it also leaves him at -1 frame, so you can try poking him out of it since you have a 5 frame window… but if he has meter, then that’s probably a bait too as he can ex messiah you… Otherwise, you gotta wait for an opening and try to EX SK out of there (if he goes for a cross-up, he’ll be high enough for you to slip right under his legs, or at worst, you’ll trade and score a knockdown). I don’t think there’s anything else you can do. Eating throws and overhead is always better than eating a dive kick -> target combo -> ultra. Just gotta remember that.
Also, when it comes to close range game, pretty much all the bisons I’ve seen get punished for going for the low short or grab in neutral situations, and Rufus players always exploit that by countering with dive kicks. Sticking out s.jabs might be more effective imo.
I’d have to watch the video but it always helps to look up other pro Bison players vs Rufus and see how they handle certain aspects of the matchup. You did well against him in that money match I saw a while go. Mostly though you just want to keep him grounded by throwing hitboxes at him constantly (not reckless but you get the idea) so he keeps getting knocked out of the air as soon as he tries to get off the ground. Max range mk, s hk up a bit closer (watch the sweep). He’s worthless without meter and without divekicks- just kind of have to exploit that. Easier said than done of course.
Sometimes I think you’re better off pressuring him out of EX as soon as he gets it so he can’t FADC anything.
Na he did it at the top of my head he just kept doing them some would hit me so he had some plus frames then he would dive kick again but then it would be above my head so i could not move in time you’ll see the vid.
Oh and i lost in team tourney to damdai and magneto manaic but i mean i came 4th and i went through a gauntlet of hard ass people after i went to losers back to back,
i had to beat Ryder-Abel , Li joe - sagat skye thompson - honda and then i lost to dr. chaos - ken 2-1
Isn’t EX SK an option in that situation? I saw you using EX SK against Marn when you beat him late last year I think.
That’s probably the best time to EX-headstomp so he can’t quick get up and reset the situation on the other side of the screen.
hmmm as for dive kick pressure (which at first I was annoyed with but have come to respect…rufus’ rushdown is gdlk) I usually use st.short to try and get them to back off, but andre is right that itself is situational. if you get hit by one he’s going to just use that frame advantage to either combo or continue dive kick pressure…i personally have a lot of trouble with this and forget that i could just block but then i get thrown for being too defensive, and for sure that’s better than eating a fat combo…but youre just going to get mixed up AGAIN afterwards since you’re eating an UT knockdown. the risk/reward is hard to really gauge and its hard to tech those throws because dive kicks are insta-mixups and insta-tech throw punishes.
i dont think i can tell you anything you dont know dre, but for pressuring, I’ve never seen you try the ‘fuck you’ frame trap (my name for it haha) which works really well on rufus. i dont know if you remember but i did it to you a few days ago (you didnt fall for it though lol). It can be done off of either an untechable knockdown followed by a deep slide to get in his face or a blocked FA level 2 dash in…after that setup its cr.short, st.close fierce, cr.short xx scissors. Because rufus’ quickest normal is four frames this works very well on him. i think because of this, using cr.jab might be better too though i havent tested it extensively. also, if your st.close fierce TRADES with his jab or short (forget which one comes out if he is late teching), you can continue to combo the cr.lk xx scissors (this trade works against most of the cast).
thats the only offensive tip for you that i havent seen you use, but as for defense…this is probably less obvious it is for you than it is for us who watch your matches for tips instead of the other way around lol, but i’d suggest re-watching the vid where you sent marn to the shadaloo morgue. you did really well against his rufus (not even going to mention the viper thing) so maybe you could review the vid to see what marn did differently and what you did differently from winterbrawl, why certain things worked for the foney match and why they didnt during winter brawl. you did so well in that match im wondering if marn has changed up his game against you, so figuring that out will probably help you readjust your strategy for the next time.
lastly, what do OTHER characters do against rufus divekick pressure that don’t have good, quick reversals? i’d like to know if they might have any answers for us that we could adapt and use ourselves.
i think when i was playin marn at shgls he did the same thing with rufus
i blocked the dive kicks high to get out of block stun faster and jump back strong and jump back round house
in order for him to beat that option he would have to psychic jump forward roundhouse
i think if he dive kicks out of ur stand short range and ur standing roundhouse range
u can substitute it with low forward, it works wonders when u get the spacing out
hope this helps
