Bison Labwork: setups, option-selects and unblockables (updated 4/2013)

Added an update section in the beginning, and performed a few minor updates. Playing around with my new video recorder, so I’ll probably be uploading more vids.

well I got something new (maybe?)
it develop by whom is not known, I think someone said they see dogura was doing it in NSB, but I am not 100% sure who did, but have video to see how it goes.

throw into cross up EMPTY DEVIL and psycho crusher.
or if they don’t have invincible move you can add ST.FIERCE as trap, and do scissor after it/or just psycho for chip.

is hard as fk to actually use it, but it worth a try…

This technique is really, really, really old.
Well, if someone still doesn’t use it. Just hold downback during grab. Perform empty devil with with UpBack. When you’re about to touch the getting up enemy, press foward, back+buttons.
Depending on the timing, it will not cross over. Foward,Back+button will ensure it will be properly executed on both cases.

After doing this for white some time, I found regular LK Scissors to be the best followup. It dodges low kicks and is invulnerable to throws. Works wonders.

I tested the wakeup timings after scissor kick knockdowns, and believe it or not, it actually varies slightly by character. For example, Rufus gets up a frame earlier than Ryu, and Sakura gets up a frame later. The variations don’t seem in any way related to the face up/face down timings listed here:

Sigh. I wish either Bison could combo into an untechable knockdown, or one of his throws left the opponent closer to him.

this set play verys, and it also add extra trick for auto correct.
is Auto correct timing are different if we do this set up??
I did that to a sakura player and is further confuse them on auto correct (I was swear I think I gonna get hit by auto correct)
but if safe jump timing are strict, and if against tough auto correct character (DJ, CHUN, GUY, SAKURA), add this after throw, or just ready to stomp if you see them jump.

I never made out the pool in any major…sigh

I found another crossup headstomp. This works midscreen against a bunch of characters, but it’s still pretty impractical.

Posted another video of safe-jump OS sweep:

Also added a 4-frame safe jump:
back throw -> dash forward-> crossup j.mk, which only works midscreen against:
Adon, Bison, Gen, Gouken, El-Fuerte, Hakan, Makoto, Rufus.

Hakan and Makoto can just command grab though.

I got a question regarding a setup Dogura was constantly using at the latest SBO qualifiers.

He was doing midscreen combo into Knee Press(not sure if it was lk or mk versions) and then double dash forward c.lp blockstring

What I was wondering if the c.lp is guaranteed to be blocked if the opponent quick rise the scissors? (Can’t the opponent mash a 3frame move and interrupt bison?)

And if the setup requires to hit with mk or maybe hk versions of scissors in order for this to work.

Dogura was using lk scissors -> dash x2 -> cr.lp, which hits meaty, and the opponent can either backdash, reversal or block. He then OS’s a roundhouse in between to catch the backdash, so really it just loses to reversal.

I think dash x2 after scissor (light kick) is -3/-4 (not confirmed, wish I have better and more consistency input for dash)

I think OS RH will STILL GET REVERSAL (delayed)
so I don’t really try that on other reversal happy character, but still, you eat reversal.
I think that is the time Bison need to NOT do anything to make him a very powerful stay at you face character, totally cool and not make any judgement…on anything.

god dp is god dp.

After lk scissors knockdown, dashing twice is safe. If you look at the technical knockdowns, Ryu gets up on frame 38 at the earliest, and two dashes takes 34 frames, so you still have some room for error with your inputs.

People can also slightly delay their tech roll to make the c.LP whiff and then hit or throw you, not that easy to do but kinda annoying to deal with (using MK scissors, delaying the c.LP, just do one dash, …).

I would not try to do it on adon becaus is really easy auto correct dp on cross up MK, I think jump in lk is better, or even empty jump for shorts.
and Bison mirror, other Bison wake up psycho, no punish.
Rufus wake up messiah, no really punish.
furte can ultra if you fk it up so badly, or he just ultra when you land right next to him…

Rufus and Adon and Bison I think is hardest, Gen is not that big punish, and Gouken is even more risky…like to whiff a ultra or sht.

if I just in safe jump, and they dash out, what can I really punish them with??
and to Rufus, when they on point messiah is gdlk…you have to use 100% respect on that move, like shake hand or something…

need set up for:

Sakura (safe jump works, and her cr.fierce whiff, punish)
Adon (god said jump, and he jumps)
Chun li (oh those lags…)
Cody (his jump in feel like Dudley…)’

any set up or advise will be greatly appreciated
P.S: I am super sleepy when i type this, sry for spells.

It’s a 4-frame safe jump, so autocorrect doesn’t hit. I uploaded a demo:

There are ways out of it, like everything, but this setup is useful because it’s so easy to time.

Posted videos of the unblockables Gangryong talked about earlier.

question, can I ask for input for option select??

I think my timing is not consistent with RH, or the OS is changing due to the character wake up timing??

I think Ken have average time, but Ryu/Rufus have late time, Blanka have super slow wake up, cammy and adon sakura have little fast than average wake up.
other I don’t really know…

Character wake up timing depends on what move you used to knockdown. Bison can’t really pressure most characters with a jump-in after an lk scissors knockdown, because most people just tech right away.

During your jump attack, press roundhouse just before you land. OS’s are easier and safer to do off of heavy attacks and off deeper jump-ins (like safe jumps)

i don’t know how reliable this is, but this seemed a lot easier on honda than any other character i tested on (i got it to work on sim, chun, cody, and hakan)

basically you can get crossup headstomps following an ex-headstomp knockdown.

I’m sure this has been asked before but I’m seeing lots of double dashes after LK scissors knockdown from the top bisons, usually followed by Cr Forward or Close fierce. Presumably this is a safe setup/frame trap situation? Can anyone explain?

Double Dashing in after LK scissors knockdown allows Bison to put on pressure. The double dash is complete before the opponent can stand. C.MK is simply a meaty attack while Cl.HP is for frame trapping people who try to crouch tech fearing a throw attempt.
