Does anyone know why my ex bullhorn would a lot of times not come out? Especially when I try to do it on my wake up. I use the three kicks button on my stick so it’s not an issue with releasing buttons incorrectly.
Reason why this is such a problem because I want to use the armour to counter some pressure on my wake up.
You can probably plink 3p and 3k to get two frames to try to reversal it. Well you could also plink throw, vskill, vtrigger if u had buttons to spare haha.
I am getting blown up trying to deal with Chun Li instant air-legs and her cross up stomp pressure at mid-screen and even worse in the corner. I feel confident that Birdie can defeat this but its hard to setup the dummy to do it properly so I can figure it out. Anyone have any tips for dealing with Chun Li as Birdie? Especially the things mentioned above really get me.
You literally have no option against IA legs unless its done directly beside you, then you can cr.mp. Any other range further out than that you block or eat shit. Best you can do is preventative st.mp outside of touching range, this sucks but them’s the breaks.
Only as a preventative measure, just like st.mp. If you are already standing once the legs come out then its too late cause you won’t beat it with anything.
And that is the best way, but reverse it right away on hit 1 or she gets to block and you are negative and pressure doesn’t end.
Third-hand information (I get my ass handed to me anytime I try hard) but supposedly medium punch from close range into bull revenger really trips the AI up. After that, it seems like you’re relying on cross-ups and luck of the draw.
I’ve been thinking about making a strong push to get through hard survival for a while, but can’t bring myself to actually do it. Can’t stand that mode. Beating easy and medium with the entire cast was enough for me, and I don’t care for any of the colours Birdie unlock by beating hard. I’m close to hitting level 25 as it is, which unlocks the gold chains in the store.
I generally try to play a more zoning Birdie, taking advantage of his variety of long normals, decent anti-airs, armor on a few of his moves and V-Skills/specials helping. Is this a viable way to play him?
That said this could be me as a player but I feel like I’m having trouble actually applying real pressure with him especially at close range. As far as close range options it seems st.LK is his best bet for linking, block strings, small combos or sometimes going into LK Chain Dive. Of course there’s still the occasional throw or command throw if they blocking. Besides those and maybe whiff punishing with a faster normal like st.LP/MP what can I do to better to apply pressure?
I’ve been trying to find a use for LK and MK Hanging Chain. HK is good for anti-air and EX is good for projectile invul. However with LK and MK it’s super easy to block and get punished or at least give them free access to get closer to you (which is bad because you have no invul). As far as pressuring from the same range you can use like a st.MK or st.HP.
Who are some notable good Birdie players? (whether online or IRL, preferrably IRL and I can watch videos of them)
1.) Zoning with his special moves doesn’t work that well, but the general “bop them with Birdie’s long ballerina legs” and “eat junk food to force situations” is the right idea.
2.) Birdie’s not really a pressure character. After the opportunity for tick throws passes during blockstrings he’s gonna have to chill. Poking, counter-poking and the command throw ballgame are where he’s at. Trying to incorporate Revenger for the sake of opening someone up in melee is a gamble.
3.) They’re basically just to fight projectiles. EX is faster, but LK and MK chains work too. You can also try them meaty after some stuff–but at ranges where this works I tend to prefer V-Skill.
4.) LPN (does he still play him?), Mike Ross (does he?), Futile, Crusher. Birdie is…not super popular, it must be said.
My theory is that Birdie’s not popular because 1) once he’s on his ass against certain characters, he has MUCH worse options than a lot of the cast and 2) he seems to have bad matchups against some of the more popular character picks (Chun and Nash among others). Even though he’s a good character overall, that makes him a bad tournament character.
