I can see him being better but some of his match ups are worse
Birdies ability to build grey life on opponents seems pretty strong

Better at putting himself in Oki situations and getting in. His nuetral game took a significant hit IMO. I would just spam ex head butt to get in if people play the keep away game and force mistakes. I like the buffs.
Bullhorn ex isn’t supposed to be -2 ??? I keep getting punished in training mode with karin"s st.hp! How can it be?!
It was a typo on Capcoms part. Ex bullhead is -2 on block not ex bullhorn.
Well no more armor 1st frame then this, thx crapcom birdie has managed to be worst than zangief, if that could be possible
I don’t think Birdies bad match ups are as lopsided as Giefs the Grey life change is not good for A character that struggles so hard to get in.
grey life dont help help birdie due to his slow speed and normals. his command grab puts him closer for more oki but is shut down by backdash as c.hp or s.hk whiffs so your only safe option for decent damage is s.hp…you could blow meter with ex.chain i guess…he gets rushed down even easier now with his 3.frame armor nerf…lost a feel times by getting crushed or stuffed by peoples normals that weren’t meaty… zangeif is harder if he command grabs you now due to his oki. Balrogs buttons are scarier and now is a threat without needing v-trigger. Crush s.hp? Ouch. Birdies rumor on s.hp being crush i wish was true because i think he really could of used it.
people just don’t get the huge buff capcom gives to birdie in this season:
the ex bull head is -2, so now you are a fat balrog, without charging you can just do it, in v.trigger or even with out v.trigger, you can destroy people in neutral even more than before because the ex bull head is a 14 frame shit like balrog dash punch ( in this game with 6.5 points of lag is almost imposible to beat in reaction) and also you have better mid screen okizeme because you can just beat backdashes or jumping doing that shit in some far ranges. the meter gain with command grab gets buff and the game meter game still the same so is so easy get that ex meter.
There’s no reason why Birdie should ever be more than half a screen away from his opponent becausd of the ex bull head buff. Agreed. It’s huge.
So your saying. We should do random ass ex bullhead that requires meter and v-trigger to show how strong Birdie truly is? :o
After ex chain isn’t it better to do a meaty cr lp? I believe that meaty st lk will whiff unless you manually (or accidentally) kill one frame. Cr lp can be done as fast as possible and still work, and still counter hits into st mp because it is hitting meaty.
I’m saying if you’re getting wrecked in neutral and don’t know how to get in, Capcom has given us safe options to do so.
Interesting. Didn’t think I could get ch cr. LP into st. Mp. I’ll test it out when I get home from work.
Edit - Yep, cr. LP after ex chain is the way to go. Good find.
I’m still scratching my head over the loss of i1 armour on EX Bullhorn. The execution and risk/reward on Birdie’s reversals were unique, and in changing the cast to promote diversity I think he’s lost out.
EX Bullhead is hilarious. s.MK, cr.MK and even Bull Slider don’t feel too much different in practice. The slower soda can is cool.
But more than anything, I’m in love with the changes to cr.HP. Though cr.MP is toned down, getting good with cr.HP leads to really badass anti-airs. Now he can do cr.HPxxHK chain pretty easily, or even confirm into CA via cr.HPxxHP Bullhead. He can also attempt the cr.HPxxHP Bullhead frame trap outside of VT and have it be more worthwhile if it hits.
(ccHK, walk-in HK, MPxxBullhead sounds amazing but I can’t land it for the life of me)
i think that combo (s.hk(CCH)>walk>s.hk>s.mp…etc) is too hard to be practical, different story if birdie has v.trigger activated then that combo is easy and devastating.

Some back recovery tech.

You have to walk slightly forward and time st. lk meaty for this to work. Its effective on back dash as well. Works anywhere on the screen
I might add more vids for normal recovery tech using this same sequence. Normal recovery gives you plenty of mix up potential.
Smart players are going to back tech Birdies bullhead. Use bull horn as a combo ender to get maximum pressure.
Is the cr mp nerf really that noticeable? It’s only traded once or twice for me and that was against cross ups. Also seems like it’s worse at anti airing neutral jumps due to the reduced hitbox in front of him. Otherwise, still seems pretty reliable. However I haven’t played the new patch that much so far (only ~1.5 hours)… what are others experiencing?

It’s funny because you answered your own question. Yes, yet it is. Not all the time, but in specific (not all that uncommon) situation it now trades or loses.

he has a kara throw? i’m not sure how useful this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E9wpovx-k4U
I thought he had a kara throw in season one lol
