Another big buff to his knockdown game - in most situations, you can now counterhit st lk into st mp after light headbutts (works after st lk, st lp headbutt for example). Previously, I’m pretty sure you could only connect st lk into st mk due to range.
I’m honestly starting to agree with LPN that Birdie got buffed. Not in the way I would want (the new VT ex bullhead is pretty dumb to be honest), but I think overall he’s better. Slightly worse neutral but way more braindead offense and tools for getting in.
To add to this same set up Huw Dawson found that its still better to use st. LK after Ex chain dash up because it creates a true 50/50 situation. The st. LK, if timed correctly will hit meaty enough to link into the st. MP into bullhead. Or you can command grab them. Timing is strict but definitely executable.
Ah interesting. It’s essentially a 1 frame link though right? I believe ex chain knocks the opponent down for 29 frames, so you want to hit them on the 30th frame. You essentially have to manually delay 1 frame, dash forward (wasting 23 frames), then hit st lk immediately so that the 3rd active frame of st lk hits on frame 30 post knockdown.
regular ex bullhead.
Quick example of a setup:
vs quickrise: whiff sMP, meaty sMP (+5 on hit), link into crLP
vs backrise: fdash, super meaty sHK (+9 on hit)
Ah interesting, thanks. I’m sure you know, but I think it’s notable that the second setup there covers both wakeups for characters without a 3f button. Think that’s especially important in season 2, where two of Birdie’s worst matchups - Guile and Dhalsim - will likely be played more due to the buffs they received and don’t have 3f buttons.
yep, any setup you make where a normal with 3 active frame is at its meatiest on a backrise, have the potential to cover both quick and backrise against characters with only 4 framers.
