Birdie General Thread: The Banana Bogey Brawler

So I’ve been messing around with Birdie a bit in training mode. However, I can’t consistently get the flames from his VT to connect so that I can combo 236Lp afterwards. Are there specific moves/spaces where this will work?

  • If you anti air with the flame, you can’t combo off of it with anything
  • Bullhorn xx VT works anywhere on the screen, but you need to hit bullhorn pretty close. That’s why it’s best to start this combo with cMP xx bullhorn compared to sMP xx bullhorn
  • Bullhead xx VT only connects when you’re in the corner

So I’ve been trying to do 5Hk, 2Mp, Bullhorn, VT, 236 Lp. I’ve had this connect occasionally, but it definitely doesn’t seem very consistent. So you are saying it is best just to do 2Mp, Bullhorn, etc?

Pretty much, since I recall the results being different and inconsistent (in the beta at least) when doing sHK, cMP xx bullhorn xx VT from:

  • dashing point blank into your opponent
  • walking point blank into your opponent
  • jumping point blank into your opponent.
  • haven’t tested character differences

If it’s from a crush counter however, you can walk forward and then do cMP xx bullhorn xx VT or even do raw bullhorn xx VT.
The reason I’m mentioning Raw bullhorn xx VT is because it really works from greater ranges.

I just noticed a weird interaction with Birdie’s df+hp against Zangief’s EX RBG. You can just mash out df+hp when you see it coming. 2 things will happen. For whatever reason the df+hp will just straight beat it out, going right through the armor, or the df+hp will set off the armor, but the grab part will wiff. It looks really strange and is probably bugged, but it’s totally awesome!

totally ineffectif… jump and give him a full combo is what you do if you see it coming…

From the description of what’s happening, maybe birdie counts as otg for some/all of the dive on the df.HP which would explain it beating out gief’s running bear.

For people who are paying attention, if you had already thrown out a df+hp right as Zangief did an EX RBG, you will activate his armor and the throw part will wiff, allowing you to combo him. You can walk forward during his wiff animation and do s.hk > c.mp > bullhead/bullhorn/whatever. If you had no meter and this situation happened, you would have done MORE damage than a normal jump combo. 367 damage for s.hk > c.mp > MP bull head instead of 306 for j.hp > s.hk > s.lp > LP bull head.

I really need to get in the lab and learn some fake crossup setups. The most lacking part of my birdie game is thinking I crossed up, didn’t and not capitalising.

Thing is when it happens my opponent falls for it too so it’s obviously very ambiguous. Also, it feels the ambiguous crossup occurs when I press mp too early, like it changes his jump arc. Weird.

after a sweap Dash:Dash;c.Jab -->Bullhead Meaty vs normal wakeup -->Works Although with bullhead and can react to quickrise with jab but not srk reversal
After Bullhead --> Can–> DashDash–> Comandgrab --> Will hit on MP and HP head and wiff on LP head since the can hits first at the same time… Maybe something nice to confuse the opponent

while testing this i found out that c.HP (the slide)after Sweap or BULL REVENGER punishes quickrise SRK maybe a setup with c.HP --> Testing^^

**Okay GOT IT --> Sweap or BullRevenger Knockdown -->c.HP (Slide)–> Hits reversal SRK and pretty much anything on Quickrise -->dash–>Save to block even forSRK and perfekt Setuptime for Commandgrab ** or Standing LK
If you do a F+HK after the c.HP Slide you will hit SOO DEEP that a MP can combo after a counterhit or a c.LK without counterhit!

I recently discovered HP Bullhead actually has enough juggle points to combo off of cHP without VT.
This only works if the opponent is in an airborne state when doing a CC with sHK or fHP. This can mostly be achieved by hitting the opponent while he’s still airborne during a DP.

So with that said, the most damaging DP punish Birdie can do from midscreen while already in V-Trigger is:
sHK, cHP xx HP Bullhead xx Super – 689 dmg

Anyone else sees an opportunity for this besides DPs on block or vs bull revenger in a mirror?
I would love to use this more.

I’m not really a Birdie player so I can’t say for sure. However, one thought I had was maybe you could set up a lot of tick throws throughout the match to condition your opponent, then one time you instead go for the 5Hk to land the crush counter. Also, if you notice somebody is mashing jab a lot on wakeup, you can use 5Hk as a meaty and it will get you a crush counter if timed correctly

Thanks for the reply, but doing frame trap or meaty CC HK just hits the opponent grounded. That’s not what I’m looking for since the combo doesn’t work then.

Can anyone with hitbox viewer make gif or vid of the following moves. C.mk. St.mp, s.hp, f,hp, st,hk, c.hp and jumping,mp,mk and jumping hp.

The Danatarion hitboxes u can look up online are just as accurate besides the lack of projectile hitboxes and lack of differentiation of projectile invincible hurtboxes afaik.
The added benefit is also that you can watch everything frame by frame.
