Birdie General Thread: The Banana Bogey Brawler

  • VT Dash + HP Killing head really works wonders, people never expect you to dash right in their face from so far.
  • You can use HP killing head after any normal you use to tick throw after a crossup. (all lights and sHK)
  • After an AA cMP, there’s no need to choose LP killing head over HP Killing head
  • You can use LP Killing Head in the following sequence (hit or block), though u need to do 1f step forward to get it more consistently with a potemkinbuster input (hcb~f+Punch): xup sLP, cLP~ LP KH
  • xup, sLP, cLP (hit or block) ~ EX Killing Head and xup, sLK, cMP (on hit, block is punishable) ~ EX Killing Head are tick throws that require meter.

Is there anyway to turn off ranks showing in ranked?

Also, anyone willing to coach a total fucking scrub in this game? On like a 20 game skid.

has anyone else been noticing a strange bug where EX Bull Horn just doesn’t come out frequently in online play?

yeah this “Bug” is called wrong inputs and it’s a human bug^^

Check out Ricky Le Douche, he is a really solid German Birdie player

Anyone try this up close… Catches players if you use it very sparingly.

cr.HP if blocked into straight chain. People will usually to attack/throw right away and get hit with the chain.

I just took a game off RayRay. That’s kinda neat

I’ve tried experimenting with a spaced cr.HPxx236MP as a ghetto frame trap (I’d use 236HP, but I can’t find a worthwhile use). You could theoretically mix in chains as well, but I think it’s just too gimmicky. The risk/reward simply isn’t there.

Hey guys, just a little thing here, nothing major but I dunno if anyone else has got any mileage out of this yet but sometimes I will do 3x cr.lp if the first is blocked, which seems to push a lot of characters out of their go to normal punish range safely and then I often get a ghetto frame trap with either cr.mk or cr.hk or f.hp.

I wouldn’t rely on it, but it seem to catch loads of people the first time I use it during a match.

sHK is usually a better option for this after 2 sLKs or 3 cLPs since it doesn’t create any hurtboxes on startup and goes over nearly all low attacks while punishing the opponent.
Also if the opponent holds upforward after 2 sLKs, you’ll actually hit them out of the air. Not to mention it’s 0 on block and not heavily punishable like sweep or fHP.

But still good stuff, since it might actually be useful against characters who can’t punish sweep well from so far away.

I have a couple questions?

  1. do you guys deal with people pressing random buttons all the time.
  2. Does birdie have any good frame traps or blockstrings available
  3. I hear the term “Option select” all the time but I don’t really understand meaning of it or even how to perform It properly.

yep - i’ve only played ~50 matches online, but 95% of players are constantly pressing buttons.
be far enough from them so their button whiffs and stick out one of your own… oldest trick in the book.

remember:
SFIV rewards knowledge
SFV punishes ignorance

  1. Yes, and in my opinion Birdie’s got a fairly easy time with them. Good range and fat damage will put mashers in their place.
  2. Birdie can blockstring lights without difficulty, but I wouldn’t say he’s a frame trap sort of character. He can do lights into st.MP (-1 on block), or space them out and land st.HK (neutral on block), and so on, so he’s still got game.
  3. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:Glossary_of_fighting_games#Option_Select

Rudimentary option selects are everywhere. If you try st.MPxx236MP as a counterpoke, the headbutt only comes out if the st.MP connects. As a beginner, you don’t have to fret about option selects. Just learn your fundamentals (and jargon), and your understanding of an OS will develop naturally.

How should I be using V Trigger? I’m not 100% sure on it’s uses & benefits.

makes bullheads save on block and extend combos and occational antiar…

Anyone got any tricks to getting his ex bull horn to come out during pressure?

Safer.

V-Trigger gives Bullhead armor at certain points and gives EX Bullhead armor always (don’t fall into the trap of spamming it, it’s not safe on block people just don’t know how to punish), it also buffs his movespeed and dash significantly, so I pop it as soon as possible against fireball characters

Is full screen EX Bullhead in VTrigger a legit fireball punish? I was playing a Nash last night and just fired one off when I saw him moving expecting him to be just trying to bait me in with a whiffed moonsault, but he went for the sonic boom and it looked like I just ploughed into him before he could recover. Was I just lucky or does it actually work? (soz if people already asked that!)
