I dunno. That seems a little gloom for a silly fat slob. Here’s my take: The Psycho Drive likely sapped his strength so severely that he lost most of his muscle mass. This caused all sorts of problems for him. He was still ambitious, but the only way he knew how to further his goals was through power, power which he no longer possesses. He could always build his muscle back by hitting the gym for a year or five, but that would take far more effort and devotion than he wants to spend. Then an epiphany came after he saw E. Honda in a Street Fight. Sumos are strong, and all they do is sit around and eat all day. Well, that fits Birdie just fine. Now after some “bulking up” he’s back in the ring hungrier than ever, both for power and for fried food.
Idk but I abuse the hell out of St.lk and it works, so that sounds about right. St.lk and St.lp are his best get off me normals, just let them jab you until they’re out of range and then you can start your game.
Also, canceling the first hit of EX Headbutt into VT seems like a pretty good/safe way to activate it, and I’m not sure but you may be able to link out of it on hit. Back to the lab I go…
according to this, the latest offline version of SF5 beta, birdie can store up bull horn by holding kicks also. He could do this in the Alpha series too, although he always had to hold 2 buttons. This is great because I’ve been holding down HP for all my bull horn charges. HP is a good button for normals, but I think LP/MP has more usage. Now I’ll be able to hold down something like MK, I don’t really use that one all too often compared to the other buttons. Maybe LK will be a good button to charge for bull horn.
Sounds like he wasn’t too sure about the EX version though. I’m not sure what to think about it…having to hold down LP+LK, MP+MK, or HP+HK for the EX version. I think I would rather have the EX version of bull horn be hold down any 2 punches or any 2 kicks. Or maybe any 1 punch+any 1 kick. It’s hard to say without actually being able to test it. I would imagine most people would hold down HP+HK if it’s any 2 of same strength. Throw tech and Vskill are too important.
his cr mk i like it catches alot of people off guard but most of the time i’m just using the punches…so every once in a while using losing hk for a some anti air action i think is a little worth it.
More ways to do bullhorn is definitely a plus. If you hit a jumping opponent with bullhorn from high enough you can easily juggle w/ critical art, don’t even need a corner.
did two matches with birdie… first one was an L… I was just really pushing buttons against a bison… then I played cammy… just stood back and built meter, he drill in to a banana or a can everytime… controlled space with st lk then went into pepper mode and went hard with the armor. didn’t try to do anything but give myself space until I built meter then rushed in with V trigger… liking Birdie alot
edit* just did two more… lost to a nash… couldn’t keep him off me, had decent spacing with and kept me honest running behind his boom… played a laggy bison… had to use lp lp cr mk to keep him off… finished him off with a CA… I’m loving Birdie
Did not know that, I’m sure that’ll come in handy! Thank youuuu
Birdie is very interesting. He’s like a hybrid son of T.hawk and dhalsim’s playstyle. I’m finding it difficult to keep other players at bay with his long normals and command HP with armor, as a lot of moves stuff his own pokes even though they have long range. Last night I played against 3 chun players who stuffed all of my normal simply using C.HP, incuding command HP as the startup for it’s armor is too long. Someone have good ideas on how to better control space with him during footsies?
Damn, must of missed your post. My bad! Is lk also working as a punish after sonic scythe or bisons lk sk? I keep trading with both at best as they tend to mash c.lp right after, which makes it hard to keep them off. Ocassionally I get a good jab punish into CA but that seems to be the case if they mistime their own jabs.
Oh and while I’m on it, what exactly is there to his v-trigger? I know bull horn and rush get armor and extra damage, but is that it or are there any more subtleties to it? I mostly use his V-trigger to corner people as they tend to just run away and corner themselves…it’s a like a mind game to just activate the damn thing. Other than that I’m sad to say I haven’t had much luck landing the aformentioned moves on anyone during trigger, I just poke to death.
Bull horn also covers a larger distance both horizontally and vertically.
Also I know Peter said they were going to remove the kara throws but Birdie’s D+HP kara is still in the beta. Gives a nice bit of extra distance to the throw.
Same… Only character I have more losses the wins against ( the one mirror with doesn’t count) can get over the sonic booms cleanly with the command throw… His normals and pretty good, I was only able to keep Nash off temporarily. He just kept jumping back in.
I do poorly against nash and chun li. Nash almost seems like the hard counter for birdie, able to dictate the pace of the game from the get go with long range faster normals, zoning and target combo pressure. Chun li seems the same way.
