He’s imply how fps are losing it’s way to dumb it down for the “wider audience”.
I will say this much, this is the most over-rated game of all time.

How is this game dumbed down at all? A lack of a hacking mini game and ammo variation is dumbed down?
There are explanations for nearly every single one of his complaints and they all relate to the storyline.
I’ll sum it up with this: Bioshock takes place after the decline of Rapture. Infinite takes place during its relative infancy.
I’m somewhat surprised at how much everyone seems to miss Pipe Dream…
Not talking about gimmicks and features. Talking about shooting games as a whole (and bio inf suffers from it). Try playing an old fps and play bio inf , you’ll notice the direction is headed as bio inf lost the gameplay touches it used to offer.
System Shock/BioShock series never had amazing gameplay, but it made sense as to why. It had a purpose as to way the game played for what it did (ie. Games like Silent Hill). However, now it’s design to where no skill is needed… cause it really isn’t. Parts are design to where you Will get hit , and thus life potions and what not are displayed to ensure your character does not die. So… why not ?
I dunno , I’d say I should make a video as to why the gameplay is bad in this game , but I think 20 other people beat me to it.
There are very few differences between the gameplay of Infinite and the gameplay of the first Bioshock. The only things that were removed were true security systems which required hacking, passive enemies (Big Daddies) which could be manipulated, and a few plasmids were combined. And for the record, video maker, there is a significant difference between using Bucking Bronco and Murder of Crows and it depends on whether you upgrade and use various gear. But hey, there are no options in this game. It’s dumbed down and streamlined.
Every change is contextual and it makes sense once you recognize that.
I mean, no one is gonna disagree with that. It makes sense as to why a lot of aspects have been changed in the core gameplay. But the reasons for the changes are no doubt bad ones (changing for the worse).
It’s not even a discussion. If you think the variety of combat approach is the same or similar in Bioshock Infinite as they were in Bioshock, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
I wouldn’t say the combat is that dumbed down, if at all, compared to the older games. Not being able to carry more than two weapons changes things, but I don’t think it really simplifies combat, just changes it. Although simple on paper, it does force you make decisions on what weapons to use depending on what you need for the fight. Since you can only carry two weapons, you can’t really rely on those two weapons for the rest of the game (although you can for MOST fights).
In the end, it’s really whatever, IMO. The combat of the Bioshock games are meant to be fun but not terribly complex/challenging. Shrug.
There wasn’t THAT much variety to begin with. There was direct and indirect. Traps with bolts, use security systems, use environmental effects or possess enemies. Now there’s possess enemies or turrets, use trap versions of vigors, use environmental effects, use tears, abuse rails. There’s plenty variety. Whether or not you feel compelled to take different approaches is another story.
Some random tips for the first two Siren battles on 1999 in case any of you are having trouble.
Before the fight starts, find some salts and fill up your gauge. Then start lying either electric or devil’s kiss traps around dead bodies. These two vigors can incinerate your enemy so they can’t be revived again.
For the first battle, I found that the area directly around the two coffins on the second floor which overlook the grave is a safe spot. All you have to do is defeat the couple of enemies that get revived up there. After that, I was safe for the rest of the fight and poked my head out to take a couple shots every so often. The key here is that you must make every shot count.
For the second battle, there’s an incredibly cheap way to beat her. Before the fight, again place traps around where she first spawns, preferably fire because of the oil. Also, make sure to grab a good long range weapon and the shotgun. Hopefully with close to full ammo in both. I used the shotgun and carbine. Now when you get up to the tear, instead of opening it, place more fire traps around where the safe opens. Next, open the tear and then have her open the huge vault, but do NOT go through or even move much to it. You should see her floating in the air doing nothing. Take a couple headshots with a carbine or whatever you have. This should trigger her to revive the enemies. Now take cover behind the desk/cabinet on the right. The revived enemies will funnel through the choke point and become easy fodder for your shotgun. Also throw in some electrical or devil’s kiss attacks at the group. Every so often check over or around the desk for more enemies. After awhile, she’ll stop summoning and stand floating off to the right side of the vault next to the offices on the other side. You should be able to see her through the slit between the vault door and the wall. You’ll now be able to shot her with her standing there doing nothing.
1999 mode is turning out pretty easy so far, though I know I’ll have trouble with the last battle. Hopefully not now that I know how unbelievably helpful possession is against rocket enemies.
I love how people are saying that infinite provides little to no strategy for your weapons and vigors. While bioshock 1 does provide more plasmids and creative weapons, they are practically useless in comparison to your wrench. I swear by the end of the game, i ended up using the wrench 99% of the time, at least infinite gave me a reason to use a gun. In terms of plasmids, the only plasmids I ever used are electro volt (for my wrench) and security bullseye ( to take out big daddies with zero effort).
Beat my scavenger hunt 1999 run through. The final battle was so much easier now that I know what I’m doing. Shock + Undertow is just too good. It kills regular enemies and the patriots with little effort. That combined with possession for the rocket guys and I easily beat it within 10 minutes.
So, I finally ended this game and I gotta say that this is one of the greatest games I have ever played. Period. This is my #1 pick for GOTY this year, and we are on April!.
Also IGN has this explanation posted for the ending…
SPOILERS!
so i’ve finaly completed bioshock infinite. do you want to know what the ending is about?
bioshock infinite is about an alien abduction
the first dlc it’s out
and a trailer for the next dlc
I think it lost the crown since
The last of us came out.
That combat DLC doesn’t seem that great… I think I’m going to pass on it.
just so you guys know, the racism in this game is satirical, and the ending is amazing!
I played it, had a good time and thought the story was serviceable (besides the last forty to fifty minutes) but holy SHIT is this game incredibly overrated. I understand that it is a slight cut above the general tripe that we get, but the sheer amount of dick riding this game has received is mind boggling. I’ve heard people call it one of the best handled stories involving racism, religion and equal rights, which nearly gave me a stroke from laughing so hard. I honestly preferred having a silent protagonist, but Troy Baker did a good enough job that I wasn’t pissed off by listening to him.
Hope ya’ll enjoy the new DLC, the first one was super garbage from what I played. I’m happy that there aren’t Citizen Kane/DIS GAME IS DA MOST ART retards in here, at the least.
Although simple on paper, it does force you make decisions on what weapons to use depending on what you need for the fight.
It doesn’t offer any decision making in this game because IIRC if you get to a point where a sniper rifle is ideal, Liz will throw you a sniper rifle to use.
