I hope he has a level 3 hyper version of Death From Above, which is just a bionic lancer straight down out of the air. That would make me very happy.

Its a shame hes still missing the Armwhip attack though, that was his main move back in the day.

So, does anyone know the imput for Spencer’s new Death From Above move in UMvC3? Properties? Can it be comboed into? All I know is that you can use it to relaunch. Also guessing its an overhead.

Did anyone actually seen a single game with Spencer in Comic Con? Spencer has always been unpopular but this is getting ridiculous, there were more Hsien Kos in action than Spencers. If that new move is anything like Skrull’s Meteor Smash I bet Spencer could very well be a high tier/almost top tier character in UMvC3.

I saw a whole of two Spencer players on stream and I was watching every tournament all 4 days of SDCC and free play whenever I had time and felt like watching people mash S.

I noticed only one thing: seemed like somebody did a qcf+L grapple, and the other player, a Magneto player, did Magnetic Shockwave. It looked like the Spencer player did Bionic Arm while the grapple was still out. I’m not sure if that’s possible in vanlla…

Yea against random players, I often throw out a grappleshot in hopes that they try to punish it and then I throw out the Lancer. You also see various combovids where they combo into it and do Bionic Maneuvers instead of a grapple followup.

I would think something of Spencer’s would’ve gotten nerfed since he doesn’t really need 2 moves that otg and I think he gets enough mileage off his current combos as it is.

I really hope he barely changes, he doesnt really need anything given or taken imo.

If Death from Above gives us anything, its a better midscreen combo. Using the new move instead of S, much like Chris’s Magnum relaunch.

Yeah that’s kinda the impression I get. Death from Above seems unnecessary at first glance, it will just make his midscreen combos easier, which wasn’t really a problem.

I hope they don’t mess with my unscaled vertical grapples. Removing that old corner loop was already a pretty questionable decision so I wouldn’t put it past them.

Well, if anybody here is attending EVO, please see if Spencer has any big changes. Or any changes.

anyone at Evo test out spencer in UMVC3?

I did. He’s… kind of the same for the most part.

His QCF+S move (that new sky drop move) is looking pretty damn slow. It might have some use, but using it as Phoenix’s jumping 2H or as any kind of dive-kick-esque move is… meh.

The huge change I’ve noticed is that they changed a particular property of Spencer’s zip-line. Originally if you diagnal ziplined from a fair distance upwards, you would zipline but still be in the air.

Let me elaborate, take this combo for example, which is his midscreen relaunch set-up with the zipline:

LMHS -> MMHS -> OTG medium air grapple wire -> 3H+S (diagnal zipline) -> S (while still in the air) -> S (launcher) -> MMHS.

The huge change in UMvC3 which screwed up this combo is that Spencer’s diagnal zipline puts him on the ground, so I was missing the relaunch because I couldn’t get the air S to land.

Aside from that, I can’t recall anymore changes.

Oh damn. That’s a huge nerf.

I wanted to know if he still had unscaled vertical grapple, but none of the spencers I talked to who played Ultimate actually tried it. But without that easy way to set it up, it matters a lot less. (Not none though. I have a couple other setups for it.) EDIT A COUPLE DAYS LATER what am I talking about it doesn’t affect those at all

btw shouts out to the dozens of people who thanked me for my videos even though I’m not sure how some of them knew who I was given that I wasn’t always in the middle of a fight at the time

I thought it was a big nerf too at first, but if you can otg them with Death From Above after air MMHS then it should be the same result, right? DFA seems really slow, but if you stagger the air series as slow as possible, it might be possible. Not to mention, more consistent.

I don’t really care if they take away unscaled vertical grapple, because DFA should help his damage anyway. (plus, I only used it in corner combos)

EDIT: Actually I guess this hurts his reel in punch starter combos, since all you’ll be able to do is Reel in punch -> zip kick -> bionic lancer

Oh, so you can use Death From Above after an Air Combo to OTG? Or would you need assists or something?

Dunno, but in the trailer he uses it to OTG after a no-follow-up command grab. As long as it’s fast enough, I don’t see why you couldn’t.

DFA…seems like a pretty useless move. i couldn’t get anything to really work from it maybe that will change with some specific assist. I also didn’t have any trouble landing my relaunch bnbs so i’m not sure thats out. i played a lot of spencer over the weekend and he felt more or less the same.
