Bionic AAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRMMMMMMMMM! MvC3 BioCom general discussion

Unless its DLC. They said this in the context of colors and for marvel they were talking about skins not models. Its not even completely true because in Trons P2 color she has shorts on(its supposed to look like Roll Casket)

I’d like Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, with a bionic 'stach.

God YEs, Ginger Spencer with Bomber Jacet, Sunglasses (even at night), and 'stache would be godly.

Are you a bad enuff dude?

Any news or write-ups on this guy? Want something substantive to put in OP.

Small write-up on the portugal thread, sorry I couldn’t get more on him. He seems to deal goood damage btw.

he has this cool looking orange+black color too.

Spencer impressions

Hey fellas.

Here are some impressions I gathered while playing MvC3 preview version, whose embargo date is today. As you may know, it is the 30 character, 6 scenario build, which our friends in Portugal talked a lot about.

In first instance, please apologize for my english, I do my best but the text may still be full of typos. Secondly, my MvC2 knowledge is very limited, and I haven’t even tried TvC out, so there might be some useless or wacky info here, as well as messy button sequences. However I think it’s interesting enough, since Spencer is still a very obscure character.

Spencer
His normals are average, not as good as Dante’s or some faster ones but decent after all. He plays very uniquely as his game focus on his hook arm; mixing up between hook grabs and hook swings looks vital, while air combos, OTGs and followups are very stylish. In the end, he may lack a bit of depthness or diversity due to his limited specials and hypers, but seems interesting after all.
-D, DF, F + A : Hook Grab
As most specials do, the three different attack buttons give different angles. Light travels horizontally, medium diagonal (up tilt) and hard straight up. When a ground hook hits an opponent, it doesn’t grab him immediately, you have to tap another attack button for different results. Light is an ordinary punch, medium a bigger one with combo potential (still a lot to see here, the difference between these two wasn’t clear) and hard simply attracts the enemy so you can beat him (not sure if you can combo directly from it or if it’s used for mixups).
You can hook in the air, making combos pretty stylish. I only managed to do it twice, though, before the enemy gets unreachable, but there’s a lot of potential in there. It gets really better when the enemy is cornered. The flaw is that you can only do it once in a jump, and if it doesn’t hit, you’re gonna be punished. When shot from the air (light is still horizontal, medium is diagonal down-forward and hard straight down) it OTG’s if done correctly.
-F, D, DF + A: Command Grab
Great after ground hook grab + hard attack. A close range grab where Spencer punches his foe up, allowing to catch him up easily and continue with a combo. Hard version grabs anti air, both light and medium grab at ground level, not sure about their differences.
-D, DF, F + L : Armor Breaker
Spencer’s Falcon Punch. Fast, powerful and very comboable, makes the enemy bounce in the wall so you can hook him, hyper him or just get near and start a combo. Looks like a must since it’s a “free” strike before starting your BnB air combo.
-Attack + Exchange: Hook Swing
A tricky mobility tool. Spencer launches his hook and moves to the place it landed. It seems a bit slow, and I’m afraid it is easily punishable with beam hypers or Dormammu-like specials, but also looks useful against certain characters. Appearently, you can do it three times in a row in the air, and it’s 8-way. Note that if it hits the enemy, it takes you near him (very important) and hurts a little bit (not sure if a combo, before or afterwards, is possible). If you do it in a diagonal-up direction, Spencer does a Spiderman-like swing.

Hypers:
-D, DF, F + AA : Hyper Hook Grab
Acts like light hook grab, though it may be a bit faster. If it hits, it leads to an animation where Spencer attracts his enemy and beats him up. It can also grab falling or bouncing enemies. However, like ordinary hooks, it’s blockable, and counts like a projectile.
-D, DB, B + AA : Hyper Bionic Punch
Spencer’s TRUE Falcon Punch. Not much to say about it, a gigantic punch which deals nice damage. Easy to combo into, gets a little tricky when trying to catch falling enemies with it (like while bouncing after an Armor Breaker), but it’s only a matter of timing. After playing a bit more, looks like a VERY useful hyper, since it hits almost instantly, has a good hitbox and pretty invulnerability. Still didn’t try it, but I’m pretty confident it goes through fireballs and most attacks.

Combo examples:
-A, B, Armor Breaker (bounce), A, B, C, E (launch), A, B, C, E (ground), Medium Hook Grab (OTG), Light/Medium Hook Grab (or continue with a ground combo if close to corner).
-Command grab, A, B, C, E (launch), A, B, C, Light Hook Grab (in the air), Light/Medium Hook Grab (still in air), possibly continue if in corner.
-Aerial Hook Grab, E (ground, bounce), A, B, C, E (launch), etc.
-A, B, Armor Breaker (bounce) -> Any Hyper.
Note that basic ground combos depend on the character, and I’m sure some hits can be added here. For example, F+C is a good follow-up after A, B, C, but is tricky to follow into a launcher. Same with air combos button sequences, still a mistery to me.

I have info on some other characters and should be able to answer some of your questions, but my poor MvC2 knowledge makes difficult to check certain aspects, and I may point out obvious things while missing important ones. Still gotta learn…

You should post this in the Spencer thread to start, not create a new thread.

Thanks for giving Spencer some much needed attention, but it would be tidier if you stuck this in the Spencer thread.

What the two above said, but very nice to get some much needed Spencer info!

So Spencer only has two Hypers?

Massive thanks dude!!! If you haven’t already, then please post this in the Spencer thread. This thread will probably get locked or merged.

Seems like Spencer is short on specials/supers, but they all seem to have their uses. Thanks for the info on his f,d,df+A command grab–I had been wondering about it. I’m so hype to play this dude.

Putting this in the OP… are you sure about the motions though? QCF is listed as the input for his armor breaker punch and his hook grab.

That’s correct, I think:

QCF+A/B/C = Straight/Diagonal/Vertical hook. QCF+E = Armor Breaker.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds - Weapon Attacks - GameSpot Video

This vid doesnt show much impressive in terms of combos/gameplay, but check out around 0:22sec. It looks like Spencer’s A+E (8 way) dash has good recovery when the opponent blocks it. It also pulls Spencer right into the opponent’s face. Should be good for rushdown(?)

Although Zellorz mentioned above that it has bad recovery, so who knows. I’m guessing the recovery is only bad if Spencer whiffs it?

Zellorz do you still have access to the game? I have some minor questions on other characters. :wgrin: Thanks again dude.

I think he only has two hypers and no lvl 3, but the game hasn’t got any movelist, so I probably missed a few moves in some characters. For example, Morrigan’s copy hyper (which looks uber) is D, D, AA… I found it after trying with charges and everything. These last are also very rare (or missed a lot of them). But surprisingly, Hulk’s gamma wave is a charge now!

I don’t plan going to play again until the review version arrives, but it could be. You can just throw questions or ask about certain characters, but don’t ask me anything too specific (like punishable skills or priorities or whatever) because I’m useless in that.

Also, don’t take too seriously what I said about A+E recovery. It’s just the feeling that if you spam it or use it predictably, you will get caught with a beam hyper. As I said, looks useful to mixup with hook grabs, but the “Get over here!” scream messes it. I’m not sure if Spencer screams that always or only on ground hook grabs.
By the way, whiffing a hook grab seems very punishable not only on air but also on ground. I think A+E hooks can be whiffed too but anyway I remember them faster. And yeah, A+E is perfect for rushdown, you get to the enemy whether they block it or not.

As a last thought, if I had to note a single thing that took my attention of this preview, I’d say Hulk and Thor power under X-Factor. They can easily take out some characters with a single basic combo. If you elaborate it, I’m pretty sure at least Hulk can 100% any single character in the game. Terrifying…

What did you think of Spencer’s damage? Is it as good as the videos have shown earlier?

This might be too specific, but do you have any generalized commentary on specific normals?

Thanks again for info. I’m gonna play Spencer (or She Hulk) / Thor / Hulk

Like :034: mentioned, did you find that Spencer does alot of damage when he hits someone? What about when he gets hit? Does he lose alot of life (or does he lose little life like Hulk / Thor)?

Did you happen to play She Hulk? I’m trying to figure out if he track stance has super armor.

@Sylari I’ll take that as a joke… xD

I couldn’t swear it, but it looks like Spencer has average stamina. Logic suggests it, too. His damage output is OK, far from Hulk’s or Thor’s but very decent. It is not that easy to land a hyper when in an air combo, so this may be his flaw. However, while his normals and air hooks are OK, Armor Breakers (normal and hyper ones) are very destructive. Regarding to stamina and damage, Spencer looks Mr. Average, except for his unique style of play.

Don’t blame me if it ends being a shit, or if a sad hadoken stops it, but I insist Hyper Armor Punch looks totally badass, I can’t recall any other hyper beating it. Probably a good lvl 3 could take care of it, but besides them, I’m pretty confident this punch wins over any other hyper done at the same time. This assuming it has front invulnerability, which I don’t really know, but it really gave me the impression. Could be tricky against full-screen hypers like Ammy’s, though.

I played She-Hulk a bit, but I really missed a movelist while using her. Can’t say much about her, appearently some specials are done holding a button (the command run) but looked too confusing. Also, her combos aren’t easy to do, lightyears away from Super-Skrull’s, for example. Not much info on her yet, but as you may know, she’s a grappler and somehow a semi-tank, and overall looks cool and unique.

Thx for the info mayne.

I wish this was Spents theme.
