Bill Nye VS Ken Ham: Science Vs Creationism

When’s @Cisco?

Is this a VS thread?

The Bible also has Jacob trying to mate spotted animals by making them look at white tree branches while they mated.

In all fairness, since science tells us we are limited to perceive a certain kind of wavelength it kind of crumbles your argument

A lot of the geniuses that science thrived from read esoteric books. Isaac newton the father of modern science thrived from alchemy yet alchemy is looked at as pseudoscience and fantasy

There are certain attitudes to thinking that needs to be preserved, I worry that people believe their limited understanding of science is how the world should be, science helps belief come to life and makes fantasy competent. We don’t need low class thinkers ruining humanity with misunderstandings of the remnants of scientific findings which are filled with overlooked transferences. Science is always growing so those atheists that refer to scientific without a strong understanding of it should die in a fire

Btw Not backing up the bible as it had been manipulated and turned into a weapon to benefit certain people.

The people who think Creationism and Evolution are examples of religion vs science are the ones who barely know anything about evolution outside their google searches. You can’t teach Creationism in schools because that forces the teaching of a creator, you can’t have a creation with out a creator. Therefore, teaching creationism would be disrespectful towards the other kids who live in homes with different beliefs.

I don’t know what notion of creationism you are referring to but i think creationism is a good hypothesis for how everything came to be, including evolution. The reason why i say this is based on what we see in the universe: Laws and Language, Systematical order… it’s like how we take books and paintings, when we read a book we don’t have any doubt that somebody constructed the words, the plots, the people. IMO it would be insane to think a book just got all of that by accident.

Evolution just increases that reasoning of it… which i will explain in the next block in your post.

I disagree, first of all i just want to inform you that “created and then evolved” is not an old notion of Creationism, it is actually older then the media favored “literate 7 days”. You can read the idea of evolution from St Augustine, St Gergory, and i forgot the other names so historically evolution was Christian theology hundreds of years before Darwin and before modern day atheism started thinking of it as an anti-creationism force. Next, what i disagree the most in your post is the “incompetent or careless” or careless part. To create a mechanism that helps your creation for surival in the changes of his enviornment shows no carelessness. Infact, this is also part of what Gergory taught in explaining the reasoning of evolution (in a theistic manner), that man could not remain an unchanged state after the fall in eden, but had to return to the unchanging state. This is both biologically and spiritually.

The majority of that are human caused.

Right… with topics like that, science be the wrong academic and philosophy being the right one for that. So your sarcasm of it being scientific is more of a fault on your part.

Missing person, do you know the difference between the colloquial definition of theory and a scientific theory?
It’s not at all fair to put creationism on equal ground when evolution ACTUALLY has evidence.

A couple of dudes a few thousand years ago.

Also this thread is going to devolve into a shouting match soon. Dis gon b gud.

Is “her” butt womanly?

Nye did a great job. That Ken guy came off like any other “believer” type. Bill did a good job doing some little pokes at the bible being translated through the centuries and stuff being lost in translation, not to mention none knows who actually wrote that old testament. Glad he mainly stayed away from religion except for moments when he needed to. But yeah, theres almost no use in debating these people.

Wanna get a class of kids to actually listen and maybe learn something?

Put on a Bill Nye video. It seemed to work well over a decade ago.

Can the next debate be Science vs. String Theory?

Every time someone says evolution is just a theory, I nearly shit my pants from laughing so hard.

Creationism cannot be taught in a science class because it has no scientific merit. It’s as simple as that. I went to Christian school and they sure as hell weren’t teaching us evolution in Bible class.

But at the end of the day, does any of this really matter? Neither side will change the others mind. The fact of the matter is that you’re alive now and one day you’re going to die. Why waste time worrying about the before and after?

^^^ This dude’s trying to stir the world’s tiniest pot.

Yes. Scientific theories are gathered by facts, and we can’t conclude things as fact with out having an observance first. That’s why it is fair to put it on common ground unless we have something else to observe.

Additional reason why it’s on equal ground is because of what i said in my early post Evolution was first (and still is) a theological notion of creationism or theism if you will, long before Darwin and long before atheism. It was brought in as a theology or philosophy for 1. explaining man’s creation and 2. man’s reaching/returning to God. As Augustine said (not in the same words), God brought everything into existence in a single moment of creation but not static. God endowed it with the capacity to develop. The 2nd was to strike the idea that after the fall in Eden, a detachment between god and the universe happened (which caused the imperfection) that life had to start progressing biologically and spiritually in order to regain or return to the perfection that God orginally created him to be.

Fun Fact: Texas took out Algebra 2 as a requirement to graduate; on the flip side, they do have to do 80 hours of community service to graduate. This state sometimes.

The other side:

Second Fun Fact: When Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed came out, I saw it 14 times in 2 weeks. I literally could not stop watching that movie.

Humans may have sped up the process but there were around a billion species dead before Humans even existed.

This elicited a loud short “HA” IRL

Bill Nye is smart enough to know he wasn’t going to convince that guy. Bill Nye got his point across (wants more focus on the sciences and to prevent the US from falling behind the scientific/engineering race).
The take away from the other guy was more shocking. That guy believes in the word of God and will never be convinced otherwise, even by science! How unexpected!
Either way, it’s a win-win for everyone (religious guy gets to plug his company/website to the believers) and Bill Nye gets to introduce a new generation to bow tie love.

As a scientist who believes there is a God, this thread makes my head hurt.
