Bill Nye VS Ken Ham: Science Vs Creationism

Hey I’m a deist. God is a male all day.

I love how this is being called a “debate.”

This is SRK. God is clearly a transsexual woman.

Fixed.

Totally let down here liberated man of anger.

A transsexual woman is just the real life version of futa…

Reminded of this.

This thread was made to highlight an event of both scientific and cultural significance. The thread maker has a stance in all this. The thread maker does not wish to talk about said stance.

The thread maker would like to point out that you guys instantly burst into some kind of argument from absolutely nothing. Because of this he will forever claim a moral high ground.

Its kind of amazing how you guys troll yourselves. This is like meta trolling. We could be having this discussion about the things brought up in the debate and all that. Instead its w/e you dudes made it out to be. Congrats.

Isn’t Ken Ham one of those guys who say that the earth is 6000 years old?
If so, then the “debate” isnt even worth watching.
6000 year old earth people are in straight up denial.
Kinda like the Flat Earth Society (yes they exist)

Man I came into this thread for 2 seconds and a few people already made me face palm.

He’s not making a fool out of himself, merely wasting his time. I’m sure he’s at least getting paid for this debate, surely…

That Flat Earth shit is amusing to say the least. Kind of reminds of conspiracies on youtube like the hollow earth theory and dragons on the moon.

I’m pretty sure the Flat Earth Society is a joke, like a parody of creationism.

Good job fundamentalist America, bringing about stupid, unscientific concepts into the mainstream :frowning:

one thing i always hated is that bill nye pushes the idea of teaching kids religion is a form of child abuse. thats a very narrow and fucked up view from a scientist.

so does richard dawkins, it is entirely dependent on the person’s viewpoint imo

which could be applied to anything being a form of child abuse when taken to the extremes. its stupid to push that idea…especially when science is supposed to be open to all ideas til they can def prove its bad. Unless he did some research thesis paper i missed…he hasnt proven its a bad thing to have faith in god as a child.

Especially when he sees how many LOLs, likes, agrees, and/or insightfuls I get.

The debate should’ve never been about Creation vs. Evolution. That was the key mistake here.

The argument started over whether Creation should be taught alongside Evolution in schools.

Both are theories on the scientific front, despite how much heralding Dawkins does to say otherwise, both at this present time cannot be proven empirically, both should be taught side by side.

I got both in high school, didn’t effect my ability to think for myself. In fact, pushing one over the other could be argued as LIMITING people’s ability to think for themselves.

i feel like theirs something wrong with the south that makes it to teach both side by side without going insane. i feel like everywhere else in the usa its ok to teach side by side and it doesnt end in some earth shattering event. you either choose to believe one…the other…or maybe a bit of both.

alot of people can ride the wave of religion and science perfectly. i do, i believe in god and science…sometimes they come into conflict but for the most part its not even an issue. but then again i grew up in the east coast far and away from fundamental christians.

Creationism is NOT science. This dumb debate is almost exclusive for the United States where of course, we rank among the lowest on the sciences.
Teaching it side by side or teaching the “controversy” like some say is like that leprosy example.
Would you rather have the biological treatment we know today, or would you instead rather have the biblical method?

You can read it in Leviticus 14:2-52, it goes something like this.
Get two birds. Kill one. Dip the live bird in the blood of the dead one. Sprinkle the blood on the leper seven times, and then let the blood-soaked bird fly away. Next find a lamb andkill it. Wipe some of its blood on the patient’s right ear, thumb, and big toe. Sprinkle seven times with oil and wipe some of the oil on his right ear, thumb and big toe. Repeat. Finally find another pair of birds. Kill one and dip the live bird in the dead bird’s blood. Wipe some blood on the patient’s right ear, thumb, and big toe. Sprinkle the house with blood 7 times.

You see this? why dont we teach the controversy? some people might prefer the Jesus way :lovin:

And also, people who claim there is no evidence for evolution, or that a creationism is a hypothesis just as valid are completely insane. Not trying to offend but I really can’t find another word. There are of course debates among scientists, but these are based on how evolution happened not that it didnt happen. The OVERWHELMING majority agrees that we as a species have evolved over an extended period of time.
Of course, there are those who will say that god set up this evolution, but if you want to play that card then at the very least you have to admit the “creator” is either incompetent or careless. There is a tremendous amount of waste and cruelty on this process, 99% of the species who lived in this planet our now extinct, and that is FACT, how do you reconcile that with a loving creator?
Or maybe you rather play the William Lane Craig card he uses with the Canaanite infants where he says that god has the right to kill children, and he was kind of making them a favor by killing them since they were going to heaven. Yeah, that’s so scientific right there.

I respects deists while I still disagree with them, however, the Ken Ham type of creationists who still at this day and age will push for the intentional creation by a personal god who reveals itself via scripture, knows your name, knows who you are and minds what you, and want to call that science, that I don’t respect one bit. You can believe it if you want, and I stand for your right to believe it, but ITS NOT SCIENCE. Their claims have been proven unscientific over and over and over again, and they still want to take this into the science classroom. THAT’S RIDICULOUS! And don’t even get me started with those that still support that Noah’s Ark crap.
Oh well, only in America… land of the free, land of the willfully ignorant.

I have not heard of a creationist theory that wasn’t specific to a religion. I also don’t know any religious person today that takes any of their own religions texts literally or regards their texts as 100% truth. If you don’t follow the whole thing to a T for any reason why would you believe in it at all?
