For the longest time seimitsu was the standard, but last year coop changed to sanwa.

Well if Sanwa is the new standard I’ll have to keep up with the times. My mistake, I had no idea they had switched.
I think it’s not so much sanwa is the standard now, more that it really depends on the event and arcade which one you get. Since sanwa is the standard in post-sf4 games I suspect it’ll keep encroaching on our glorious seimitsu turf though.

Evo2k5. There was a 5on5 3rd Strike exhibition between USA and Japan. I was originally a member of the team along with some of the other FFA guys. However, a dispute not much different than this happened with Mike Watson and Hsien Chang added on to the team along with Justin to replace me and the FFA guys. Those guys were added onto the team because they were the highest placing US players from the past Evos. We had a seperate qualifier in the morning of Evo for one spot and I ended up losing to Ricky Ortiz in the finals. All those guys that ended up being in the exhibition got smoked by the Japs, with most of them going 0-5. Would I have done much different? Probably not, probably would’ve went 0-5 too. But how many people actually remember the events of this exhibition unless you are a 3rd Strike historian? Just about nobody knows this even happened, but I bet we could all remember who placed in the top 8 for that Evo or at least we can easily find the results of the top 8 of that Evo.
In hindsight, what was more important was for me to place high in the event that mattered, and that was singles at Evo, or in our event here, the singles and teams. I got booted off the team from the 5on5 that year, but had I placed top 8 in the singles, every fanboy would’ve been screaming foul and that I should’ve been on the team, but I didn’t place. Place higher than Exo, eliminate him from singles or his team for the teams (not like that will be hard to do anyways) then gloat in his face. But I think the focus here shouldn’t be on this Titans event at all but rather playing 3rd Strike, paying our dues to the game, and doing our best in the singles and teams event. If I was asked to come to this event just to play in the Titans event, I’d probably decline. The competitive factor will be higher for me and my guys in singles and teams.
Lastly, I don’t think the Japanese cabs in Japan use Sanwa buttons, I think they use the default buttons that come with the Sega cabinets. I’ve been looking to buy those mushy default Sega buttons my whole life but… to no avail.
Those gotta be sanwa buttons. Seimitsus would not be more mushy.
I’m not sure if it’s a matter of feeling slighted or just disagreeing with my autonomy but it’s senseless because the bigger picture gets ignored. The objective is to bring 3S back into a national level event where people WANT to come out and compete. To do that, I had to get a good distribution of notable players to be on board with this exhibition, and I think I covered a good range. How fucking great would it be to have 3S back on a national scale?

more important than that is how beat up the sticks/buttons are.
Concerning the sticks, I’ve put in a lot of back and forth with the hardware owners to ensure the event will have proper streaming/commentary. As such, I’m less inclined to make a hefty request as new hardware for all 4 setups when factoring that their setups all work fine (I’ve played on all of their cabs over the past year a handful of separate occasions with no complaints). Don’t hold your breath

Changing sticks would be too difficult. Requires totally different control panel.
Oh right I totally forgot about this. When we bought our cab it came with Sanwa control panels and we had to do some soldering to get the Seimitsus to fit correctly. Alternatively we would’ve had to go track down the Seimitsu-compatible version of the control panel. So yeah whatever is in the cabs now is probably what we got.
