Best Ultimate Tech Talk Hang Out Loud Edition Season V

Glad someone agrees! Been trying to justify making more than one for a while.

Make it or make it not, there is no justify.

Is there anyone around here who does RJ45 cables for like a fee or something?

Has anyone ever successfully recolored sanwa buttons/balltops or something glossy of the like?

Sure, lots of people. Check the trading thread for modders and ask them. I’d happily do it, but I’m currently out of RJ45 ends, something I need to remedy like… today.

Man, I’ve got a dilemma here. I’ve got a PS3 SE full of sanwa buttons just sitting next to me. I could buy one of those round 2 TE’s for 100 and dual mod it for myself with the spare ChImp I’ve got or I could modify the PS3 SE with the madcatz pad I’ve got on order. All the SE would need is a JLF.

I just can’t decide if the size and comfort of the TE is worth it over the portability of the SE. I don’t really mind playing on an SE either.

What do you guys think?

I’m kind of in a similar position, but i have a ps3 TE and a 360 SE. And I need one of em dual modded.

If size were the only deciding factor I’d go for the SE. I prefer compact sticks though so whatever your preference is.

I prefer big control panels on arcade machines.

Dual modding the SE is easier since it’s on 360 (all you need is a Cthulhu/ChImp).

Wouldn’t it be a little tougher to stuff the pad PCB in the SE? To be fair, I’m really bad at organizing wires but all the same it looks a bit cramped in there.

It’s a 360 SE, he wont need a pad PCB. All he needs is a Cthulhu/ChImp.

Which begs the question: where IS a good place to put a 360 PCB in a PS3 SE? I’ve never been satisfied with the placement every time I’ve worked on one. I’ve tried putting 4716 boards on the taped-up pcb, under the start/select buttons at an angle, and just to the side of the stick. Any place better?

Unrelated, but I hate your new avatar! Bring back MAI!

Hmm, having removed my asii optical stick from the dreamcast stick that I bought, I see that all of the wires are yellow…

Really?
Laugh.

You can use this.

Thanks man! It works fine following that diagram, guess they ran out of coloured wires when they did this one

Hey what do people use to drill holes into a hrap case? I’m trying to put the start/select buttons on the back.

I use a 15/16 (24mm) hole saw I purchased at ACE Hardware. I do it by hand rather than with a drill.

I’m not sure if this is the right thread to ask (maybe the noob thread would be better?), but here goes:

What’s the smallest functional stick anyone’s made? I’m guessing it would use an LS-33 and 24mm buttons. I’m thinking about an ultra-compact travel stick of sorts for my next-next project. I’d love to see some examples.

I think Gummo’s keychain stick is the smallest…

Keychain?! Don’t tell me it was made from one of these O_O
