Best soul calibur game?

All the extra modes in SC1 for DC were fine but it was 8WR that blew my mind when I first played SC1. Other shitty fighters like SamSho 64 and WarGods tried 3D fighter movement, and it was a poorly implemented novelty. 3D was in its infancy in 1998, so it was amazing to see a fighter as fast as Tekken, VF, SF etc. use intuitive 3D movement. Tobal 2 pioneered the system I think (never played it), and now it’s basically the standard input system for 3D fighters. That’s what drew me to learning the game. And when I found the original SC discussion board, I learned how brilliant the game was, especially from hardcore VF3 players who ‘defected’ to SC1.

And every thread has a mix of posters whose arguments are louder than their facts, and douches who chirp their opinions and ignore everyone else’s. Welcome to the Internet and SRK, get used to it.

Fixed. :razzy:

I want SB jumps back.

Really!!! I would hardly say SE/SB was anywhere near as polished as Soul Calibur. Although losing your weapon and fighting with you’re fists/kicks was cool. Haha but the VF2 Jumps…I can do without…

Hell they should try to combine Tekken and Soul Cal…with a little Power Stone Stage interactivity…and perhaps more jiggly boobies…

Well, maybe not as polished but… It had the missions before SC, and it had the best music in the entire series

It’s amazing they havn’t done a Tekken vs Soul yet.

It was about 5-6 years ago so I can’t remember fully, but the impression I got from that beating was that a large part of a characters moveset at that level becomes useless and you really had to abuse glitches that weren’t intended to be there. For the most part it seemed like creativity was a bad thing.

soul blade was the best now that I think about it, sc1 is too bland, sc2 is missing something, sc3 was weird cos it had more style and not enough substance (although I like it for it’s ring out game) and sc4 was made to have fun with

but sc5, that is one good game, im glad they finally decided to bring the series to a futuristic setting

Closest thing to that was SC2 for the PS2. lol.

Nope. SC’s soundtrack is still the best IMO. Hoko Temple theme for Taki is still one of the best arranges in VG music history I think…

Agreed. I feel SC1 hands down had the most fluid and natural movement system and it felt completely fair to how the combat and move properties worked. I honestly wouldn’t change anything about it.

When I actually had both games in my possession after a few years SC2’s properties and movement felt surprisingly limited and linear in comparison. I was really surprised at this, because (like most people) I had first played SC1, didn’t play it for a few years then played SC2 and of course assumed it was exactly the same, but better, with more characters and stuff. I was so wrong; they really started to change the game at that title but its easy to not notice if you haven’t played the first and only watch match vids, etc. I could go on and on about how great SC1 is and how much you could do with it; after really getting down with that title there is just no going back.

To be honest, I’ve given up on the “SC series”; I only have respect for SC1. One just really gets the feeling the series is no longer even respecting itself with all the stupid breasts, illogical guest characters and system changes. If I don’t feel the company gives a damn, why should I?

SC2, definitely. I started playing when it was called Soul Edge.

I’ve played all four SCs… SC3 and 4 were travesties. Also, once they started slowing down the flanking aspect of Soul Calibur it just wasn’t fun anymore.

Edit:

Dude, I listened to SC1 Taki… It has nothing against SB Taki imo :razzy:

Who does the music for Soul series anyway?
