The initial learning is what is the challenge, cause of getting the timing down. Going from pad to stick doesn’t effect timing, but it is easier to plink (like pherai said) which lets you be more lenient.
People wanna divide the discussion into 2d and 3d because VF5:FS and TTT2 Shit on everything 2d this gen by a large margin KOF god bless its soul is 2k2um.5 i mean what did they add? they made it simpler and not really in any important way. SF4 is an amalglamation of a bunch of shit from 3s, st and even GG all watered down and served up in one stale pack of saltines. Marvel 3 could have been a good anime game if they actually playtested the damn game. when nitsuma justifies buffing viper by saying “She was a strong character only as assist” You know they have their head up their ass, also TAC’s eww. Blazblue I would actually say would be a contender for number 1 if a) the balance wasnt god awful the first 3 version, Literally each version they just nerfed one person buffed another and there you have it another 2-3 characters that shit on everybody and another 2-3 who might as well not be in the game b)the presentation was better. That stale ass anime soundtrack and the frilly looking UI they should have known localizing it that that shit that way wasnt gonna rock in america. We need METAL(Read that as GG). i mean really i guess non capcom games werent as bad off but and there were some 3d who were just as assy (looking at you sc4and5) we know who the champs are though.
I almost forgot about Metly Blood (specifically, Actress Again Current Code). I can understand why people usually don’t mention it, but holy hell, this game feels as balanced as a rock. Heck, I think that Chaos Code’s feel is somewhat similar to Melty Blood.
Plinking wasn’t a problem for me on pad. I play Dudley. Plink or die. Muscle memory had to be 100% relearned as the position of my hands is now completely different as well as the movements my fingers need to make for the same result.
So how long did it take u when u first tried learning links on pad? Relearning is still relearning, hand positions are different, but the timing is the same. The timing is the hard thing about links.
That is not the hard part. Or it shouldn’t be. There are only a few link combos in the game that have wonky or delayed timing that need lots of practice (eg ones that change timing depending upon recoil hotboxes at different ranges/characters). Otherwise you’re just tapping when you know your move’s recovered which, if you play a character, you should already have a feeling for.
If you don’t know when you’re recovering from a move your main character is using, you have more fundamental problems than link combos and you’re going to have a harder time than everyone else no matter what fighting game you’re playing.
Disagree with me all you want. You have to have a sense if you’re playing at anything better than mediocre.
I disagreed, cause your wording made it sound like going from pad to stick is as difficult as learning a combo with 1f links the very first time. When people mentioned that link combos, you answered with…
People were talking about learning the link combos the first time, not the easy task of relearning them. Again why not mention how long it took u the first time? That would actually be relevant to what was being discussed.
I learned most of my character’s FRCs in Guilty Gear by practicing them within little over a month, whereas still haven’t gotten down links consistently in SF4 in who-knows-how-long. Difference is, in GG, learning FRC’s weren’t a necessity in the beginning. I could still start off with meterless combos and still fare pretty well. Only when I’ve gotten accustomed to my character to the point where NOT learning my FRCs was holding me back, and I wanted to get MORE damage from combos that I was missing by not spending meter, is when I finally felt I was ready. You can learn things at your own pace whenever you feel like it.
In SF4, if you wanna get anywhere towards being halfway-decent or do anything worthwhile with your character, you’re forced to learn what links into what and learn the timing of them. Otherwise, you lose out on a lot of damage from hit confirms and don’t get anywhere, and just end up falling back on poke-cancelled-into-special-move or your character’s target combos (if they even have them). And this cut-throat design decision is partly why I never really got into it. Unlike in GG where you can still pull off some combos and set-ups while you’re still learning, you literally can’t do SHIT without links in SF4, and I don’t like that.
Different people learn in different ways, nothing really else to it.
Only if we can ban ALL Arcana heart fan, news, photos of Arcana hearts themed sticks talk as well.
I am not having this shit how we can’t say anything bad about something because someone going too get butt hurt
We already haveit in the stupid Killer Instinct 2013 thread, lack luster series and its made now by a studio with the worst track record for success
MS has no working protoype of the consoles at E3 (they used HP desktops running win 7)
and I got to pretend it does not suck?
Can we just ban the accounts of AH fans instead?
Yes. First and foremost, its the game any fun to play?
You can have 6 characters or 120 characters, it does not matter if the game boring.
I seen guys think they are hot shit and include everyone elver into there massive ego driven MUGEN title
and the game sucks…
Just give me a list of 6 people who have there own different visual differences and play style and your fine
Lets say for arguments we have your default arch types
Just give me your Karate man, ninja, boxer, girl gymnast, jungle man and I don’t know maybe a cow boy type.
There 6 unique characters, that is all we need. Each is versed in their own fighting style , there no clones or pallet swaps
Make a combo/ move system that is not complicated.
Lets throw in one non-playable boss character, some minor background characters and make up some BS reason they are all fighting.
There you got a decent fighting game.
The following applies to all genres of gaming not just fighting
Any game got to be easy enough to learn in a short period of time but shows enough challenge to be engaging.
Time is a relative term, but I should be able to power my way though a new game tutorial in 10 and get the gist of the game play mechanics.
Challenge is also relative as this is also works on single player mode although I feel a game must be able to stand up on its own in single player mode.
Obviously this do not apply to games whose very genre involves multiplayer like a MMO.
I never, ever seen a fighter with perfect balance. Every fighting game I seen has a bottom tier and a top tier character.
I forgot more titles of fighting games than most people play. How many folks remember the Magic the Gathering Fighting game for the PS1?
And rebalacing only throws the game off, all the pros have to relearn and rethink strategy. I forgot who it was that came up from nowhere as a good Adon player in SF VI, who plays Adon, NO ONE ELSE. Is he (ADON) top tier, hell no yet this dude kicked ass. He re-did everyone’s strategy because he was good not because Capcom decided to stroke the salty scrubs egos.
If a character is broken just banned the character, like “I don’t let my friends play Metaknight in Smash Bros Brawl, or Akuma in Street Fighter”. Show me a good Dan fighter and I show you that balance is bull shit.
How about we not censor opinions, and people who are butthurt by them can just be butthurt? It’s not like anyone is retaliating with anything except words(and troll flags) for what you say anyway.
Christ, idiots still bringing up Double Helix track record and MS at E3 2013? If you’re gonna attempt the trolling thing, at least come up with some new fucking material.
My grand father though me if you step in dog shit once, don’t do it again. And if you see dog shit avoid it so you don’t accidentally step into it.
name me one good game Double Helix already released. Their track record so bad they will not mentioned any of their past games on their website.
Only thing you see is KI 2013. not a good sign
I will save you the effort
Silent Hill Homecoming
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Front Mission Evolved
MX vs. ATV Reflex
Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters
Battleship (movie tie in)
Which one of those above is worth all of us right now to march to Game Stop and buy a copy?
Hopefully for them they had their heads pulled out of there asses and make RARE green with Envy; but I am not holding my breath for that.
I don’t need new material, I just to point out the truth. And I am not trolling, I telling you how it is and ignoring the hype.
What I think of KI, After selling my copy of the SNES game years and years ago I ended up buying another
I still retain my SNES version of the game but I don’t play it much.
Because I say shit no one wants to hear. Truth can be ugly.
The whole title of the thread “best fighting game of the generation” is very subjective.
I am seeing some trends in validly explained opinions and alot of fan rage.
My final statement about the DOA, AH ans similar titles.
if you are too embarrassed to admit to your family, girl/boy friend, friends ect you like X game then maybe X game isn’t all whats cracked up too be?
If you don’t give a shit what they think, then you do not care what I think, play your game and have fun.
Arcana Heart isn’t a doujin game? You could fool anyone who sees the game for the first time.
The character designs are redundant fetish-fuel. There’s no arguing the point. If you want to argue that the system is intuitive and engaging, fine. Go ahead. You can make quite a few solid arguments to back that point up… but there is no way you can rationalize away the absurd and repetitive character design.
Yeah, AH’s design isn’t well varied. I have nothing against people who like the game or whatever, but I don’t buy the “it’s better than it looks” line. If that’s the case, it should look better.
Who gives a shit if they don’t like what’s being said (especially if it’s right)?
