There is actually a tactic that you can use on larger characters (kinda gimmicky):
Against tall characters, and instant neutral jump rh will hit them if the are standing, but whiff if they are crouching. However, there is a property in the game where a character put into blockstun while standing keeps their standing hitbox even if they go to downback (this is called ‘fuzzy guard’ in other 2d games. don’t mention 3d fuzzy guard unless you want to start an arguement :bgrin:). In sf4, you can do this by performing meaty jump in’s with a lot of blockstun and immediately follow up with an instant jump neutral attack.
One setup I found:
-Get an untechable knockdown with enough time for you to do a neutral safe jump rh or fierce. You want the jump in to be very deep, so you are as close to to the other character as possible. You also want to hit the jump in super meaty (like, last frame before you hit the ground).
-If they block the safe jump (which they must do standing), do an instant neutral jump rh. The rh will connect with their hitbox, even if they go to downback, acting as an instant overhead.
The easiest character to do this on is sagat. I’ve also had some success with abel, seth and viper, although the timing is tighter. Juri and Adon have similar setups, although theirs are better since they 1). can cancel air normals, and 2). work on a larger number of characters. Note that since you are neutral jumping in front of someone and hitting them on the way up, they can anti air you even if you hit them, so don’t go for it unless your gonna kill them (in style).
Edit: here is a youtube video with juri/adon that shows the basic concept in practice.
When the opp is the corner these are a few things I?ve had success with… after a knockdown while in deep (yes homo) do meaty cr:lk/mk, cr:mk, then cr:fp none of this combo’s but take ur pick at which move may hit em. Also in the corner/up close after a knockdown use close St:mp, cr:lk/mk, lk:sk its a ghetto frame trap but will combo on counter hit if they jump mp will reset them, they can back dash from it tho (use st:rh to deter them),if u don?t have a charge when doing this then after cr:lk/mk throw out a move of ur choice.
Something fun I like to do is make my opponents panic after teching so much. So after a combo into scissors, I go for the cross-up PC. And after that, I go straight into ultra if they are teching. Catches a lot of people.
All 50/50 set-ups are a risk. I like this set-up because it means that my opponent is constantly being pressured and increases the chances of him screwing up for a successful ultra attempt.
This setup isn’t really a 50/50, since they can do things other than block. Backdash/some invincible special/counter ultra. Always remember that when you perform an ultra, you are giving the other guy almost a full second (the freeze) to formulate a counter. In SF time, that is a long time.
yeah i wouldn’t say it’s even a true 50/50 situation because of all the options. but yeah i guess constantly pressuring your opponent can be a good thing when you’re not getting reversal denied in the face.
and yeah i guess on that whole bison main thing tyrone, but I also secondary Seth!
Learned the hard way the other day that you can’t EX PC Blanka’s vertical U2. In retrospect this makes sense, but at the time it seemed like a reasonable option. :\
While i completely understand bison is a very solid top tier character, i have no idea why he’s all the way up there. He has no anti air, poor priority on some of his moves such as psycho crusher (lp completely stops it? lol), bad air priority, but other than that hes good. I just dont think he should be all the way up there, i however see him being top tier.
Look at it from more of a match up perspecific then just overall strengths and weaknesses. Sure Bison has issues but so does everyone else. I think some of the matches where they have Bison dominating, are actually closer but this is still relatively close to the release. We’ll see more when people actually get into the new characters. I really think Juri has a lot of potential, i just can’t figure her out though.
Fuck that tier list there is no Fucking way, Japanese are crazy if thats what they really think… I do agree that Chun is a monster now though. Just not first on the tier list
