Hey nastyy that trailer you posted opened my eyes. I didn’t know Skrull could basically reset any combo he does like that, super sick, can’t wait for the full video.

Also I’ve been practicing a whole lot with Skrull lately, getting most of my inspiration from watching Pain on optionselect and miamifgc. After getting over loltenderizing every 10 seconds, Skrull is crazy fun to play. It’s so easy to punish anything wrong that the opponent does, what with air dash stone dunks if you’re in the air, back dash elastic slams, wave dash s.L with sentinel drones. So much fun to play, and sooooo much damage. Even just playing Skrull-Y Sent-a and any random anchor, it almost feels unfair. Just a few questions.

Is there anything I can do to cancel out of a whiffed command grab short of x-factoring? And what’s the best way to follow up a hit with orbital grudge into fatal buster wall bounce?

I really can’t see how more people (who play on stream often) don’t play Super Skrull. He’s a solid character who’s extremely effective when used properly, but I barely ever see that. Kinda sucks ya know?

as nasty told me in the other thread:

“Ground Dash, Jump, Air Dash, air Down+H will connect and isn’t too difficult to make in time.”

You can use a bar of meter to save yourself in case you missed a grab.

The reason ppl don’t use him is because of his learning curve and most of his moves are unsafe.

Exclusive screencap for one more public demo vid for the new guide:

Ah I could use a bar to save myself there, I didn’t know that. Command grab is like, either 700k damage to them or as much as they can deal to you, the recovery on a whiff is so long.

I get that most of his moves are unsafe, and the learning curve is quite extensive. I’m still learning how to use him (of course I mean, I’m certainly no expert). But from my time of using him, his moves are really only unsafe if you don’t use them properly (not saying I use them properly all the time because I certainly don’t). You just need to play with deliberation in what you intend to do, you can’t just mash and throw stuff out randomly hoping for a hit (lookin at you Zero). I really think Skrull is one of the most interesting characters to play in this game for those reasons. He has so many tools and so much potential that it’s insane to me how little he’s actually played (on stream I mean).

Can’t wait for the video though, it looks awesome so far!

The reason people don’t use Super Skrull more is because he’s not a very good character. He’s essentially a jack of all trades king of none. His damage output isn’t very good. He can’t get to 800k outside of the corner by himself, when a plethora of characters can do it easily (taskmaster, dante, doom, zero, etc. the really good characters), he’s not particular fast, his normals for the most part are pretty lousy, he has the slowest teleport in the game and while his command grab has great range, it isn’t nearly as safe as some of the others and the damage he can do after it is not very much (it’s not 700k, it’s more like sub 600k). His assists are pretty mediorce too (although I feel tenderizer is slightly underrated). He has a super (Skrull Torch) that for the most part is virtually useless. Finally he gets zoned out frequently because his teleport isn’t safe and he has no projectile. I don’t say all this to bash on Skrull, I love him, he’s my favorite character and my best, I was playing him well before Nasty’s fantastic play created the Skrull bandwagon, but I just feel a reality check is in order, he’s not very good, probably in the bottom half, and it makes sense why he doesn’t get a lot of competitive play.

Him getting air meteor smash in ultimate helped a lot, but he needs a few more things, in the next Marvel 3, flight and a projectile (cannon wise that’s just absurd that he doesn’t have that stuff already). Then he’d be a very solid character, maybe even top 10.

P.S. Nasty, obviously looking forward to the video. I need some new Skrull tricks, he’s my best character, but I know there’s way more technology to be discovered.

Thanks guys for the support.

I personally think Skrull should have some kind of Air Stretch normals like Dhalsim.
Example: Air Back+H will do a downward stretch punch like Seth’s SSF4 pre-AE patch

Also, when Skrull was first out in the beginning builds, they promised he would get more powers representing Sue(Invis Woman) but he never did.
So he can gain some invisibility powers or force field powers.

Also as a skrull, he already has the abilities to use hypnosis and Shapeshift. It would be pretty cool if you can shapeshift to a character if your choice like Shang Tsung and use that said character for like 8 seconds. Imagine the dumb combos that could happen.

On a side note, I’d like to give props to Alukard and DJ Huoshen for repping skrull at Winter Brawl. I see you guys use the St. H crossup on incoming opponents as well. Note that over here since the players know about that crossup, they know how to punish it.

I know Huoshen might, but I hope some of the rest of guys can make it to NorCal regionals here in SF. We can level up our skrulls and if we get at least 3 skrull players we can enter in teams as the Skrull Invasion, lol.

yoooo nasty that would be sooo awesome !! … also sorry i fail to do amazing things on stream … -__- but the nerves are getting alot better since apex >> SUPER SORRY about how terribly noobie scared i played -__- 800 people watching and expecting godlike play put mad pressure on me ><

SKRULL INVASION!!! i’m sooooooo in there!!! <3

I been playing around with Skrull myself, I personally think he has it better than a lot of characters do. His moves are risky sure, but there are rewards for them. It’s not like the risk isn’t worth the reward. His Learning Curve is difficult, but it’s not impossible. There characters like MODOK, Rocket Racoon, Arthur, etc having much tougher learning curves. As far as damage output goes Dante/Hawkeye/Firebrand/Strider/etc struggle much harder than Skrull does.

Eh. I don’t think you guy should worry too much about people not playing Skrull. As long as people do well with him that’s all what really matters. I mean there are actually less Morrigans than there are Weskers. She hilariously creates more whining than Wesker himself does.

Ya did good Alukard… ya did good. Lol, but I think once you get to play on the stage at Evo, that whole scary tourney feel disappears. At least to me it did.

Also just a question to you both, but why did you guys not extend your combos with Stone Smite? Was it that you just didn’t want to risk it since it’s a high level play? If so then I understand. I wouldn’t try to risk the combo if it meant dropping it might cost the game.

Ahhh yeahhh, NorCal gonna get hit hard with the Skrull game!

Are any of you guys going to Final Round?

I saw this in another SS thread, it was posted by TheCape.

"I was just playing around with this. Stone Smite (blocked) links perfectly into a L Elastic Slam in the corner. This requires a M Elastic Slam when not in the corner. Its just plain WRONG and hilarious. Use an assist like Akuma Tatsu or Frank Cart in order to support some of the charge time of the Stone Smite and then get a free Elastic Slam (as far as I can tell).

Crouching H allows for a cancel to a M Elastic Slam in the corner or when not in the corner.

And interestingly enough with push blocking you cannot avoid this either. When Skrull jump cancels the move he is no longer being pushed back by the block. This may in fact give him a free grab setup.

More testing is needed, but its a cool tool."

I have never thought of doing this, but in theory it sounds really good. Have you guys tried it? I play Sent(drones)/Skrull(StoneSmite)/akuma(tatsu). Im thinking call akuma while I charge stone smite. Then they have to block the stone smite. If they do i can cancel into elastic slam L or M.

Do you guys see a danger to this? I think they can jump and avoid the elastic slam but then I could start using Elastic Slam H. I feel like if i whiff though im gonna get punished badly. Do you guys know any way to option select so I stay safe? I know i can cancel a missed grabbed into super but I’m looking for an alternative.

Anyway, do any of youse guys use charged stone smite or charged cr.H for anything besides otg combo extensions?

Nope. And that set up is too risky.

What stops the other guy from

Y’know

Shooting you or something

I mean it seems like it would be really difficult to lock down the opponent long enough to fully charge Stone Smite. Not that I care, I play Skrull on anchor.

whats up i play skrull only on anchor for that level 3 comeback potential but at anchor i feel its way more of a gamble if anything. I mean how exactly do i best utilize level 3 x factor with this guy? am i supposed to be going for elastic slam M xf elastic slam H option select? am i supposed to be spamming random meteor smashes? like wht kind of safe pressure can skrull put on to mix up opponents that is only available when he has x factor? i mean what makes this character one of the better anchors in the game?

I don’t think he’s a good anchor, and I don’t know why people think he is. He’s obviously designed to be a point character, he has solid health and shitty assists. He has pretty lousy normals so assists help him get in, on point he’s very good. In Anchor XF, his inferno does crazy damage, and his teleport is super fast (and still crosses up) but there are just way better anchors.

My team is Skrull/Hulk/Felicia. She’s a really good anchor, one of the best in the game. Other good anchors include Sentinel, Dark P, Wesker and Dante. Good XF anchors tend to be very fast and they tend to have great normals or a fairly safe super you can use.

yea thats why i switched skrull to my point character now a days … whiffing AA grabs while backed by an assist is such a happy feeling LOL

I agree with you guys in that he is better on point with 2 really good assists (I back him up with drones and akumas tatsu) but I learned to play skrull by having him as my anchor.

As anchor with XF he can meteor smash and hit you anywhere on screen, XF, and kill you. The opponent is never safe. Your opponent can never call assists cus inferno covers so much of the screen and will kill any assist in the blink of an eye. And if the opponent is afraid to do anything and just blocks, grab him and he’s dead. He is insanely fast and unpredictable. And it helps that you can now XF in the air.

He just has a lot of mixups thanks to XF. Whiffed meteor smash into command grab (thanks for that hi im nasty) is the first one off my head. But I would rarely use command grabs when hes alone. Also he can kill off any grab in XF. In fact he can LAUNCH off meteor smash with XF, loop that once or twice and you got a dead character.

Hi im nasty beat the most powerful character in the universe with skrull XF shenanigans. But I have to admit, i like my skrull with tatsu and XF2.
