I finally got a chance to sit down with legs. She has been on the list for people I want to play with. I wanted her for this all female team I’m trying to do. Do you think this team is ok? It’s Chun(LL), Ammy(Cold Star), and Morrigan(Meter build). Do you need to switch anything up? Anyways on to Chun herself… some random thoughts
random thoguhts
-which color is better black, baby blue, or shadow lady? I think shadow lady is too dark and baby blue is too light. What do you guys think?
If all else fails. i might rock her alt. She looks good in it.
Serious stuff
-I find her combos really easy and I feel like a beast. Hell, I mean I found some solid shit into bird kick.
Is her wavedash any good? I just realize she had one.
-And what is her OTG again? I keep forgetting, so I kind of get lost when I get into the combo groove.
Anyways, I don’t really think the team needs a meter building assist because Chun herself can build a lot of meter however im not well versed with any of morrigans assist also yeah her wavedash is really good and her otg is her air down M ( the stomp).
Oh ok. Thanks for your feed back. Oh and the reason I have a meter build assist is so that I always DHC if I have to or want extra damage for finish combos. And how does that otg work. Do you do it after J. S or something? it’s confusing. Does it only work in the corner?
How I run my team of Chun(LL)/Dante(Jam Session)/Doom(HM)
Spoiler
What’s your team dynamic?
Chun and Dante provide combo extension for eachother, Dante and Doom have serious lockdown potential, and Chun and Doom allows for Chun to keep the pressure
What’s your favored way to get in against zoners?
Don’t let them start, but Tenshoukyaku and Air dashes.
What’s your favored defense against Rushdown?
s. and LL with Doom missles.
What are your mix-ups? What are your follow-ups to those mix-ups?
Jump cancel c. to headstomp, air dash and j. for crossups. Followup is c. s.:h: :hcf::h:~:h:…
Jump cancel c./s.:h:/c.:h: (delay) air dash, air throw/j.:h: crossup option select.
Dash QCB+:a1:+:h:: The start up of Jam session allows you to keep them from being in block stun, if you get just a regular c.:h: you can JC that to keep the pressure on or try for crossups.
(during Hidden Missiles) Fast high low mixups( /:h: JC headstomp airdash j.:h: DJC j.:h: j.:s: or /:h: JC headstomp airdash j.:h: c., :f::h: DJC air dash j. j. for crossups
What’s your bread n butter? How much damage and meter do you get for it?
From a clean hit: c. :h: :hcf::h:~:h: * :h: c.:h: j.:d: Air Dash j.:h: :h: c.:h: (small delay) :s: sj.:d: sj.:d: sj.:h: sj.:h::h::h: double jump sj. sj. sj.:h: sj.:h::h::h: :s: (falling :s:(wiff)**) :a1: neutral jump airdash j.:d: air dash :qcf::atk::atk:
*:Dash two or three times to help carry the opponent to the corner. Depending on the character’s size and crumple animation, you may need to omit s.:h:
**:Wiffing the j.:s: helps Chun hit the ground faster.
What is your strategy for snapped-in opponents?
Meet them air to air (no crossup) to bring them to the ground, call Doom missles, run mixups.
Are air grabs a part of your offense?
Yes, 1 frame attacks should be apart of anyone’s arsenal.
What attacks don’t you use and why?
:l: and c.:l:, unless I need to get through armor.
What’s your overall strategy? (rushdown, lockdown, zoning, footsies, etc)
Rushdown and lockdown, with a heavy emphasis on frame traps to bait pushblock.
I feel like the answer for Chun is lockdown more than rushdown. Right now I’m working on perfecting a way of keeping Chun on them regardless of pushblock through jump cancels and air dashes.
Akuma has been a great help for her. He keeps my SBKs even safer.
I usually use any rushdown tactics, then as soon as they push me, I call him and also do a TK SBK, then I proceed with another attempt to break their defense.
If you go to cr.M -> st.H -> H lightinin and they block, you can go for another one approaching with dash -> cr.M
Her wavedash is excellent, just don’t mash it out too quickly or you’ll go into lightning legs.
And her OTG is her headstomp. jd.M. You can one out by either just doing it as she’s landing atop your opponent, or superjumping and immediately canceling into a dash and head stomping.
Have you guys ever played "lame with her?
If you have a really hard time getting in, RUN AWAY.
Chun Li can do that, specially now with the airborneTenshoukyaku recoverable.
I always runaway when I dont want to chase, or when I want to “think about” the matchup.
I cant complain anymore.
Somehow, every single person I play has been complaining about Chun Li. I guess I finally got it right…
I’ll stick to her on point.
Yup, this is my current strategy for beating Ghost Rider with Chun. She can’t walk forward and Ghost Rider’s only weak spot is above his head, so I just use her air mobility while letting Doom beam do the work for me.
I run Vergil-y/Chun-y/Deadpool-b and I’m trying to really improve my Chun… I love her to death, but I can honestly say she’s bringing my team down. However, I can do unique Vergil stuff (my Vergil’s damage/resets really revolve around Chun and Deadpool’s assist) with her so I don’t plan on putting her on point at all.
I’m considering putting her in an Anchor position since she’s incredible in lvl 3 XF, especially in the corner… however, I’m stuck with the weakness that if I’m in a situation where I had no xfactor available + Deadpool/Vergil not being around to OTG/extend combo and super with, I’d have to rely on weaker unextended (is that a word?) combos that will probably not kill. It’s kind of an all or nothing situation with XF at that point lol…
Also my Deadpool doesn’t need any assist to score 800k +/- with a single hyper + easy-to-combo-into infinites with lvl 2/3 XF so he’s kinda a better fit as anchor… so maybe Battery-position would be better suited…? headache
Short answer: yup, Chun is bringing your team down.
Long answer: Chun is usually point or anchor (and I don’t like her as anchor, but I’ll mention it anyway). On point, she requires certain assists to be effective. Vergil/Deadpool can’t meet those needs unfortunately. As an anchor, she’s subpar and her assist is easily replaced. Maybe Ammy would be a good fit for your team? She’s a great anchor and has a lockdown assist similar to Chun.
Edit: had another thought. If you’re running Deadpool anchor, you might as well run Wesker anchor (unless you’re against using Dark Whiskers Rises). You could keep your OTG and get unblockable setup to boot. I won’t even mention his anchoring abilities.
Yeah, I think someone not named Chun would be better for that team unfortunately. I don’t think it would be ideal for her to be anchor on that lineup
Haha, thanks for the input guys. I knew I couldn’t be the only one to see the imbalance :
Unfortunately, in terms of replacing her, I’ll have to pass. not to get corny LOL but I only play mvc3 because of this team and I know for a fact they share their own secret synergy that I’ll just have to prove one day.
For now I’ll keep her in battery position and just try and work harder with her to keep up with everyone else. With enough grinding, new tech should rise anyway. I forgot to mention she benefits being at battery because of the access to the ‘impracticle’ infinite with DP on anchor. doesn’t mean much, but nonetheless still an option over having her on anchor/point
Aww that’s pretty cool man. I like Chun cuz her cr.m is so good haha. Maybe use Chun’s normals into kikoanken as a way to set up combos? I know her cr.m punishes lots of stuff because of its speed and range so try it !
I would at the very least make the order Chun/Vergil/Deadpool. Chun can safely DHC into Vergil, but not the other way around. Having her on point also allows her to build meter for Vergil who needs it for optimal play.
lol I already use that to my gameplan, and I love cr. m
that’s the thing, with Vergil/Chun/Deadpool, I have access to 750k+ meterless combos that build +2.5(give or take) bars, and that’s just off a day 1 bnb with Vergil. off a more advanced bnb, I obviously get a much better output. Instead of throwing my meters like every other vergil for sword loops, I build the hell out of them because of these three characters. finish the combo with a dimension slash and if I fail to achieve the High Time -> Dimension slash loop, simply DHC into kikosho afterwards and a huge chunk of the cast is dead… with +0.5 (give or take) meter
so meter building is everything BUT a problem
It is true what you say though, not having a safe DHC is a huge weakness to my team LOL
Like a lot of others here, I run Chun-Li with X-23. I actually built the team around X-23 and found Chun-Li and her to compliment each other nicely. Right now I also have Hawkeye on anchor because his assist is great for covering X-23 and helping her get in close, and it doesn’t hurt for Chun-Li either.
