against non Ex set ups you can use backdash/focus backdash almost free.
against Ex set ups you have to be carefull about Ex ground pound and Ex MP break. The first is armor breaker and the second has invul frames until landing + no recovery (but it loses to wake up throw*)
*buuuut then if you try to wake up throw Ex divekick will rape you. So basically you dont have a safe way out and in some set ups decapre can use her other specials and ultras in OS from divekicks thx to her lower charge requirement
I agree with Necrotrophic, poison match is pretty even.
Keeping pressing on her is key. If I try and play defensively I usually lose. Spacing is really key in this match, you want to be st mp range. You can u1 her fireballs on reaction from st. hp range but you’ve got to have a good read on your opponent. Pay close attention to their fireball patterns, a lot of poisons like to jump or flip back then fireball. If you see this it’ll help you land a u1.
If you’ve got a runaway Poison, focus through her fireballs and let her run herself right into the corner. Once shes in the corner things get much easier. AA- st mk works well for mid-close range jumpins, st mp(the close double slap) works well for real close jumpins and st hp for far ones.
I’ve had some luck with hananshu from close range but it can be risky. If she’s focusing a lot a good ex hazanshu helps keep her in check
She’s got pretty good air to air and AA normals but jumping lk seems to work well and jumping hk seems to throw off her ground AA. Air target combo is beaten pretty easy by her normals but i’ve had luck blowing up her focus with it.
Has Valmaster, infiltration, or vivi put up a match up chart? I feel like I have a pretty good understand of chun after playing her hardcore these past few months and I’m curious to see what they think about her match Ups
if anyone is interested. My chun has only been tested against FL players IRL and some good players online but it will be going national soon! lol. BTW its straight forward on the left and techincal/difficult on the right
Wait. Maybe I’m reading this incorrectly but are you saying evil Ryu beats chun 7-3?
Evil Ryu definitely does not. At worst its even, at best its in chuns favor. He has nothing to threaten her with as his damage comes from the midrange poke game and good luck beating chun there. Once she gets super he can’t even try that stuff, and his Axe kick is very punishable.
Most of chuns matchups are even or slightly in her favor with only a handful of bad matchups that are all very winnable, including Yun.
I don’t think she has any 7-3s in either direction.
Here is how I look at Tiers:
Every match up should be 7-3 in your favor (Meaning: It’s called having confidence)
Every match up should be 5-5 (Meaning: Match up knowledge)
If a match up is 7-3 against you; study that match up! (Meaning: Training monster)
Tiers? I don’t believe in Tiers.
When you hit the opponent do they lose health?

I absolutly love the x-axis with straight forward to technical/difficult.
There are just some matchups that are in your favor but still seem unwinnable until you get good at the game.
Dudley beeing a good example - Chun clearly beats Dudley, but you have to play soooooo perfect. One missed Antiair and he is in. And if your defense isn`t on a worldclass level the game could be allready over.
One thing that stands out to me is that you think Yang beats Chun 6.5 - 3.5 while Yun is even. That doesn`t seem right - unless you have some tech against Yun that i really want to see
with your everyday Yun/Yang, I’d say it’s about even but vs good, hardcore players it’s 6-5 in the twins favor. I find Yang easier than Yun but not sure why.
I find Rufus to be tougher than the twins. The match isn’t to bad if you can keep him out but once he gets in it’s heavily in his favor.
I think yang is even/slightly in chuns favor. He really struggles at getting in, and his resets don’t really work on chun BC of ex sbk. Not to mention his dive kick isn’t good.
He just has to rely on straight forward pressure with low damage output.
I personally think Yang does better than Yun because Yangs ground game is much better than Yuns. Yuns strength is in his ability to get inside and dominate but chun is a wall and she’s not letting him in that easily. Yang on the other hand can actually play footsies(and shut down fireballs completely) so he doesn’t have to get inside.
Can’t Yun just shoulder in with every fireball too? If anything, I think Yun shuts fireball even harder cause he can shoulder into RF-Ultra and then its mix-up city for him… And I wouldn’t say Yang’s ground game is better, because Yun has much better pokes (st. MP/HK).
Can you please be more specific as to why Yang does better against Chun?
Yeah, Yun’s EX shoulder shuts down FBs. It’s 13f too, so it’s ridiculously fast for a good range projectile punish that you only need to do a EX DP input to activate. Chun’s normals alone won’t make her a wall against divekicks but U2 and cr. lp helps a lot along with her standard AAs to keep him honest in the air.
I’ve always had more answers for Yang than Yun and that was before I started using U2 in the matchups, but I don’t struggle much with the twins anymore in general to make me feel it’s any worse than even.
Generally I dont struggle against Yun, but one of the Yuns I know from ATL I consider to be a top player for that character and he is genuinely a pain lol
